When I about to have an outbreak I get leg pains, it normally on one side. Is there anyone else who get pain somewhere other than the break out zone before or during an outbreak?

    Might be psychosomatic.

Actually its pretty common for folks with hsv to get pain outside the area that is affected by the outbreak. Herpes lives in the nerve tissue away from the outbreak region. I find it kind of useful when it happens to me. I use supression therepy sometimes and when I get pains, which are in my legs as well, I start the meds in order to squelch the outbreak early. Sometimes the outbreak never happens if I take care of it in time.

I have some friends that have told me the same thing including those with oral herpes.

Hmmmm...very interesting. I wonder if this is what sets off my low back pain on occasion...don't ever get a break out but I am on suppression therapy at the moment. It is hard to tell what to attribute it to since I have arthritis in the same area because of worn discs as well as fibromyalgia but there are times that the pain around my tailbone just gets to be beyond imagining and no amount of pain meds or anti-inflammatories helps.

    Something to ponder...

Yeah, that's interesting. I don't have pains like that other than in the immediate area, that I'm aware of anyway.

Actually the lymph nodes in the crease of my leg ache. That's my first sign that an ob is coming on, a few days even before the itching. It's my cue to make some changes fast :)

My legs always ache and swell when I'm active. Since I don't get the sores, that's how I know I'm more likely to spread to the manthing. Anyone else get sick to their stomach and feel like they have the flu as well?

I've only had two outbreaks that i know of, and the beginning of this one started with a stabbing pain in my right leg up to my hip...it was pretty owy. but i haven't started the valtrex this time in hopes it will just run its natural course.

    yes.

I seem to get a feeling like my legs, it's only one and usually near the top of my thigh that feels like it's been burnt. It's kinda hard to explain. I guess it's not so much a leg "pain", it just feels like someone poured burning boiling water on my leg, the longest it has lasted is 3 days and usually NOT followed by an OB..so that's kinda wierd too.

The 'leg pain'/burning sensation is one I associate with prodrome, when my lymphatic system is going haywire trying to fight off the onslaught of a potential outbreak. Over the years this has been a minor or major aspect of prodrome symptoms; much worse 10 years ago or so, sometimes it would feel like my whole thigh or an entire leg had gone to sleep, that 'pins and needles' feeling. Usually the more severe it was and the longer it lasted, the more likely I would get an actual outbreak of lesions, but more often than not I get prodrome and few - if any - lesions.
The last few years have been like a return to the earliest days that I had HSV, with very definite flu-like symptoms - fevery, sweaty, sniffly, aching head and joints, and of course swollen lymphs. Toss in the desire to sleep for days, major mood swings; depression and anger...great fun. Usually I feel it coming early enough to be ready for it when it takes over but occasionally, after prolonged masturbation or fairly 'energetic' sex, the whole process can flash through my system and I'm in the middle of it before I kow it, cranky and miserable..much like an ex who's menses used to 'take her by surprise' every month.

Yes, I sure do. My right leg is very sensitive...and not only that but I get terrible lower back pain as well. It's all very common.

I almost always get lower back pain and leg pain to the point of barely being able to walk sometimes...I get flu like feelings as well when I am about to have an outbreak...so yes, these are very common symptoms unfortunetly!

Okay, this is exactly the thread I was looking for!
I've had a very tender patch of skin in my lower back on my right side and the skin tenderness has now moved down my right side to my thighs, still tender. the tender back started a week ago and now the tender thighs popped up today. My skin is painful it's so tender but there's no redness or rash, almost like my nerve endings are going haywire. Does anyone get this?
I've never noticed a blatant ob on me and I was diagnosed over a year ago.
I'm wondering if this is a herpes symptom that's not in the books. Irritated nerve endings without necessarily obvious lesions but maybe a lot of shedding. It would make sense since the virus travels along the nervous system. I know shingles is a cousin of herpes and that's usually quite painful for the skin.
Agh my thighs are so tender, wearing anything is painful.

    Hi Lenia

Yes, I used to get leg pains with an outbreak. I always took paracetamol which helped, but it made me feel very miserable indeed.

However, I've got some very interesting news though. Briefly, I live in Germany and recently changed my doctor (GP) who also uses homeopathy. My worst problem was my almost monthly outbreaks for the past 25 years, it was really getting me down. She suggested that in order to cut down on attacks I should strengthen my immune system and suggested "eigenblut" injections, whichliterally translated is having my blood taken and then having it re-injected - a course of 10 was suggested and it was very low cost. Guess what? I haven't had an outbreak now for 5 months! That is the first time in 25 years! I am absolutely delighted.

All I can say is never give up and wish you all the best.

    Love, Ruth
