That's right. I am now self-employed and on a tight budget and I need to find individual health insurance. Blue Shield turned me down because of H.....and I don't even take pharmaceuticals and I very rarely have any issues.....they told me I could join their PPO program for a mere $500 a month, plus $40 co-pay if I need to see a doc, plus a huge deductible if anything nasty happens....
Anyone in the states know of a low cost individual health insurance provider who will cover people like us?

Health care companies only want healthy people!
Would they turn down a woman on birth control?
A kid with asthma?
Hell, the $40 is almost what you'd pay to see a doctor if paying out of pocket.
Who the heck can afford $500 a mo???????
