Hi all!
This will be my sixth year at Burning Man but my first with a hexayurt, and after the dust storms last year that coated my tent, sleeping bag and pillow inside and out I am extremely excited about the prospect of a sturdy shelter. I'm going to make the 8' hexayurt (the One True Hexayurt) and I've already got my tape on order.
I am wondering if anyone has experienced the difference between a hexayurt built of 1" panels vs. 1.5" or thicker panels. The R value on the RMAX Thermasheath 3 panels I am looking at goes from 5.9 to 9.4 (and 12.9 on the 2" thickness) and I am left wondering how much difference it really makes. I imagine the extra thickness also makes the panels more durable, and if that extra half-inch adds even one more year of use then it's most definitely worth it.
Any thoughts?
