In the photo album, you will find photos of bindis for sale. Click on each one to find descriptions, pricing & size info. If the title says "PENDING", that means that it is being ordered and I'm waiting for payment to clear.

TO ORDER: Please send me an email at hibeambindis@yahoo.com and include the bindi number(s) you are requesting. I will send you a confirmation email and follow up with an invoice email from PayPal. Make sure you give me the email address that you use for PayPal. I will NOT process orders coming through Tribe, so I can keep things organized in one place. :}

POSTAGE/SHIPPING: If the bindis you are ordering are fairly flat, I can put them into a regular envelope with rigid sides. If they're pointy or there are multiple pieces, I'll put them in padded envelopes. So, here's the postage breakdown:

1 or 2 flat bindis = Regular envelope w/rigid sides up to 1oz: $.64
Pointy or multiple bindis = Padded envelope (including envelope's cost) up to 1oz: $1.67

If you are outside the US, let me know, so I can charge the right postage.
All sent via US Postal Service. If you would like any other shipping arrangement, let me know so I can charge appropriately.

Hello everyone!

I'd like to invite you to my new tribe, Sandi's Ocean. This is a tribe for all other things I make besides bindis. But I will probably post reminders/updates there about new batches being posted here. It is a "catch all" tribe, of sorts, to let you know about other things I'm working on or selling at the moment.

At the moment, I'm working on getting a new line of necklaces together. It is mostly and mainly a Service that I am offering for those who have trinkets and beads that have been hidden away for one of those rainy days for you to do something with. Well, I'm the rainy day. Ha ha! I've blogged about it, so you might get a better idea here: http://people.tribe.net/s-a-n-d-i/blog/f8f3f660-805d-464a-ad8c-46a5f3149c5c I'll outline the guidelines for that in the new tribe and post photos of those who have experienced this with me.

Last year, I made Shortie Mitts (fingerless, wrist-length mittens) as holiday gifts for my friends. They loved them and I'm thinking about making more, but I think it will be the same deal as the bindis. Custom orders are hard for me, since I won't have all colors you might want. But I have a lot and in many varieties. So, you'll have to see what I come up with!

Okay. I've been wanting to have a collection of photos with you lovely ladies with your HiBeam Bindis on, but I can't have two galleries on one tribe. So, remember way back when (in February) I first started out, I had a Flickr gallery? (Before I found out I couldn't sell from there.) I still have it. So, I was thinking if you wanted to send me photos of your lovely selves wearing my creations, I think it would be a totally cool thing! Would you?

Sparklestones

I have to share with you this cute story.

A good friend of mine has a 5 year old daughter who loves princesses and faeries and all things pink and sparkley(sp?). Oh, sorry, she IS a princess. If she was here, she would correct me on that. So, as she sat on my lap, I commented on her outfit and how sparkley it was with all the rhinestones. She said, "Rhinestones? That's what they're called? Why are they called rhinestones? I think they should be called sparklestones because they're so sparkley!" I told her that I thought she was right.

Later, that got me curious. Why are they called rhinestones? My guess was that it had something to do with the Rhine River, since that is the area where the Swarovski crystals I use come from. Well, lo and behold! I was right! Here are some sites that I found quite interesting:

The short history is, a man named Stras started using the glass found in the Rhine River by coating one side with lead to create more sparkle and called them the poor man's diamond, even though they were expensive because each were hand made. Then Swarovski came into the picture by inventing a glass cutter which gave even more brilliance to the stones and sped up production and lowered the cost.

I still agree, they should be called sparklestones.

BAh. okay, so I'm obviously doing something ridiculous like looking right at it and missing it but... I have tried repeatedly to find the photos of current inventory so I can order. Apparently I'm a dufus because all I can find are the two posted in the photo album and the flickr pages of already sold bindis. Uh..... What in blazes am I doing wrong? Question about bindi's

I dont know much about bindi, but you may just be the person to ask. Last year I purchased several things from a company in india, including several bindi. I didnt get what I ordered, but Im not complaining. What I got were 2 pretty, red velvet, sparkely, glittery, perfectly lovely things I would be happy to wear. My problem is that they are 5 inches long. Where the hell do I stick them? Do I cut them up? There is a picture of one in my Tribe photos. There they sit, much admired, unworn. Help?

Ahna and I are puting together a lovely gift bag for you! Only 7 will be posted here. If you've seen or worn her mineral eye shadows, you know how vivid and luscious they are! Just like the HiBeams! So, you will have your chance at scoring a cute little bag with two color coordinated eye shadows (I think they contain 5 grams of powder in each), an applicator and a matching HiBeam Bindi! Prices will vary depending on the bindis, but I would say somewhere between $18-26 for the set! How cool is that???

Custom Orders

Ah yes. Custom orders.

I know many of you are wondering if I'm still taking custom orders. Well, technically, yes I have been, but it seems as though time will not allow me to actually make them. I'm finding that many custom orders fall by the wayside as my life gets busier and thats not good for me or you. I don't enjoy letting people down as I may already have, so I've decided to stop taking custom orders for a while. Probably not forever, but until I can figure out a better working system. I'm sorry if that diappoints, but it's just the way it has to be for now.

So, instead, in the batches of bindis I put out, I will try to create as much diversity and abundance as I can possibly muster in the spare time I have. Feel free to message me or email me with ideas or colors you like so that I can include them when I can.

Fell in love with HiBeamBindis

Hi Sandi,

When I saw your little stash of these babies at the Mecca Immersion vending on Sunday, I bought 4 of 'em!
What a great way to start my own bindi collection. The ones I got were: purple gems on silver finding,
orange gems and tiny pearls on bronze finding, a copper cabochon surrounded by little pearls, and a
trail of lime/gold/amber gems. When are you gonna offer more??? :)

You ladies were GREAT at the Mecca Revue. I had never seen Fat Chance perform before. I was a foot away
from the stage. I loved every minute of it!

Little update

Hello lovelies,

I just wanted to let you know, I've moved and all is well. Still getting situated within the house, but I'm in a good space with good people in Berkeley now. A big room, in a big house, with a big yard. Wonderful! It needs work, but it's got a lot of potential. So, I'm an east bay girl now. And who knows, I may just join the circus. My roomies are trapeze artists and musicians. Fun! :D

Your bindis will be made with a more chill energy, but always with the good quality. And I just bought a bunch of parts for some big one's so keep an eye out for those coming. Domestic = .42
Canada & Mexico = .72
International = .94

I ship most bindis in a standard small envelope, so these prices usually reflect what I'll charge you for postage. If its extra bulky, I may add .20 for the USPS "nonmachinable" fee.

Sneak Peek

Heyo,

I uploaded a few photos of new ideas I'm thinking of trying out at Tribal Fest. I just thought I'd get your feedback before I make a ton of them.

I've always said that if I could be a beachcomber by trade, I'd be happy. I love collecting shells and I've got quite a collection. Big, small, broken, whole. I particularly go for distinctive shapes, colors and textures. So I finally pulled out some of the little one's to see if they could somehow work into bindis. I suppose these would appeal to those who enjoy the sealife theme or who do not like bindis that are too sparkley. Some, I've added bits of sparkle, but there's no need, really.

So, with the shells, I went through my button box and then, encouraged by Medina, I took apart a watch I wasn't ever going to use again. Cool little parts inside, but they are TINY! Next stop, the bead drawers! I'll have to see how these all glue up. Ya never know until the glue comes in. ;}

I thought I'd let you see what I'm working on, as I know many of you can't make it to Tribal Fest. Let me know what you think!

Yeah, I'm a big slacker. Not totally unproductive, but I haven't had anything to show here for y'allz. I've got bindis - finished and in the works, but as it tends to happen, another festival is coming up (which I'll make another post for) and I'll be saving the stash for that and then posting the remainders here. I must apologize for the lack of product here. Life pushes and pulls and sometimes throws things at me. Its like a younger sibling or something that needs attention. Why, life, why?

So, I've been busy and not busy. Inspired and lazy. Efficient and disorganized. It tends to fluctuate around here. And the interruptions help and don't help. Mostly whats been happening is home improvements. The landlord has finally gotten around to fixing a few things here in my li'l abode, like the fridge, windows, heaters and faucets. But it creates some disarray around here and distracts me into cleaning and rearranging and starting other projects like hanging things I've been meaning to hang such as my abalone/antler chandelier and photos and moving furniture to create a new workspace (which is a good thing), weeding out things I don't need or use anymore. Falling into these projects tend to be ongoing and there the bindis lie there, looking at me, pleading to be assembled and finished. And that, they will. Soon dearies.

Stay well

Whatever strain of flu is going around, please please don't get it. It is painful, long-lasting and immobilizing. I've been out since Friday, even though we performed on Sat. Literally have been either in bed or crawling around trying to scavenge for food and boiling water for tea. I'm finally feeling better, but not 100%. Not even 75%. But well enough to move around and do dishes.

Please don't get sick!

Have you ever thought about setting up a yahoo group people could join, or some kind of mailing list so that people who are anxiously waiting on pins and needles to get your bindis could be notified of new stock via email? Or maybe sending out a Tribe special notice?

I'm not sure about the other Tribers, but I usually only check Tribe a few times a week. I keep my email up all the time, though =)

HiBeam Bindis at Cues & Tattoos - Seattle

Greetings! I just wanted to let you know that I'll be going to the Cues & Tattoos festival up in Seattle this coming weekend! I don't think FCBD will be officially vending, so I'm looking into having people either come to my room at the Nexus hotel or just accost me if you see me so you can see what I have. I swear, I have to get one of those cigarette trays, one of these days! :D

Any ideas? I don't even know if there is vending at all. I'll be in most of the FCBD workshops though. Helping out. And I'll try to bring them to those as well.

Update & Custom Orders

Hello my lovelies,

Yes, I've been busy, busy working, working, but not on bindis unfortunately. It sucks, but the rent is getting paid. Not only has work been hectic, the troupe has been travelling a little bit too and we've have had some performances to work on, so my focus and energy goes towards that when they come up. I just got back from LA and ladies, I'm sick as a dog. Must've been something I picked up on the plane, but I was down for the count all day yesterday. Feelin' a bit better today and I'm able to get caught up on some things that don't require much movement. Ugh. Anyhoo, I just wanted to let you know that I'm still alive and kickin', but am just not in the bindi space as much lately.

Some parts of orders are done, some are actually done and I haven't heard back from you, some I haven't got the pieces yet, some I'm not sure whats happening. I got busy and slacked. I'm so sorry! I realize its been months for some of you. I will try to go back through my emails and respond to each one, but it would help if you could send me an email or respond to one of our old convos, to bump them up to the top. Just let me know if you still want me to work on them or not. No offense taken if not.

Thanks for everyone's patience and btw, I do have bindis to post, but can't seem to get through the photographing, editing, uploading, describing process right now. But as I've said that, I might just do it. Hopefully soon!

Repair tips?

One of the rhinestones fell out of my favorite bindi, and as a quasi-fundamentalist DIY-fix-everything-that-can-be-fixed person, I want to repair it. The rhinestone is separate, and there is still the metallic-looking base on the bindi. I believe in super-glue, are there any other recommended solutions or things to avoid? I am fairly diligent about using spirit gum remover after every time I wear my bindis, so I guess it should be something that is not disolved by spirit gum remover.

Hey Ladies,

I know I've been MIA lately. I've been under some stress. The full-time bindi work isn't proving to pay the rent (Oh, if only I could grow 2 more pairs of arms and eyes!), so I've had to go back to temping. Thats okay, I'm glad I tried it out to see what it was like.

So, I haven't been making too many bindis lately. Just workin' and catching up on paying rent. I've got custom orders still on the burner though, so sit tight. I will get back to you all.

Pearls?

Have you made any with faux pearls yet? My dance partner and I have a White/ cream assuit costume we are working on. We are accenting it with red. Maybe a bendi with a red center and pearls and silver around that to reflect the white assuit. Looking for an antique classy style of one.

My dance buddy passed one of your bendi's onto me and they are amazing, I love them. So reusable which is great.

There I was, rockin’ my special made Hi-Beam bindi on Sunday at Tribal Fest (a wicked scarab charm surrounded by lovely sparklies), when a woman passing by stopped and stared at it. She said to me “Wow, you know not every dancer can wear a bindi like that without IT wearing them!” She oohed and aahed for a bit and then I pointed her in the direction on your basket o’ bindi joy. I thought it was a funny compliment but oh so true! You simply cannot be meek and mild when you’re wearing a Hi-Beam!!

Postage and mail issues

Hi all,

I forgot to mention and charge a few of you the new postage prices. In US $:

Domestic = .41
International = .90
Canada & Mexico = .69

The last one is new to me.

If you have an outstanding invoice that you haven't paid yet, I'll have to adjust it to reflect the postage change. That includes new orders.
If you have already paid for your order at the old postage price and I haven't sent the envelope yet, I'll cover the difference.

Question: for those of you who have recently ordered bindis (say, from the last batch) and have paid for them, have you received them? I have had one sent back to me for lack of postage (which I added to and it got sent back to me again! Fran, let me know if you got it) and one is currently lost in the mail. Yes. Prices will be going up, starting this next batch.

I realized that I've been giving everyone a pretty good deal in the past year or so, but if I'm going to make this business work, I'm going to have to make some changes. Not that I don't want to give you a good deal, I just have to charge properly for my time.

Regular stock bindis that I post here will have slightly higher prices than they have been listed before. I'll try to keep them reasonable, but for some of the more elaborate one's, which I have in the works, they'll be in what I call the "designer's special" zone. They'll be big, bold and beautiful, but not cheap. I'll still post them here. Since I try to make them all one-of-a-kind and use unusual materials and such, I think this will be a fair and appropriate change.

Custom bindis - even if they are duplicates (if I can make them) - will be 20% more than they would be if you ordered them off this site. Because, I realized again, I'm spending about 20% more time communicating with you to get the details right. I was doing that for free. So, if you had a custom made bindi by me, woohoo! You got a deal! :D And for those who have customs in the works right now, this new pricing will not affect your orders. And if you haven't heard from me in a while, yes, I am working on them. I'm actually almost done with them all! :D So you'll be hearing from me soon!

Bulk orders for bindis I post here will get a discount of 10% off for ordering 10-19 bindis; and 20% off for ordering 20+ bindis. No discounts on custom bulk orders. Again, if you already have an order in with me right now, you will not be affected.

So, hey! If you ordered 20+ custom bindis from me, you'd them at the same price as regularly posted bindis! :}

Not sure if I've forgotten to cover something here, but this is your friendly warning. In case you see the next batch and notice something different. Yeah, its the prices. But the quality and materials will still be the same and I will keep on making improvements and get more crazy with the designs as time goes on. I can already see an evolution from my earlier bindis to the current one's. Also, lot's more metal settings are coming in the next batch. Some repeats of the one's that were highly requested from the last batch. So keep a look out!

Also, I'm working on a schedule for myself (trying to work in my procrastination issues!), so hopefully you'll be seeing regular postings and more often. I hope it all works out! If you have questions, or if something doesn't make sense, let me know! I'm still in the learning process.

I've read mild soap (not anti-bacterial) and spirit gum remover but to avoid water if possible...anyone found a miracle method?

I go to Vegas for the weekend to wear an ugly bridesmaid's dress and this happens. Of all the luck. Well, at least Vegas was fun, and in all reality I have no money because I left it all there. No, not at the tables, at the stores. I love to shop in Vegas!!!!

Full eyebrow bindis

Sorry, I'm not sure what the proper name for them are, but I'm looking for bindis that have a larger bindi in the middle between your eyebrows and smaller ones right over your eyebrows.

I purchased one a few weeks ago to wear in a show over the weekend and I thought they were on one, long continuous backing. Unfortunately, they were not, and I ruined them trying to get them off one at a time.

I think they were kind of poor quality though, as while I was taking them off, they fell apart.

So, Sandi, do you make anything like these and how much would you charge? I have to say, you've totally ruined me for other, inferior bindis now! LOL

Hello everybody!

I know! I've been MIA for the last few weeks or so. And you with the custom orders are wondering, "when am I gonna get my stuff?" Well, I'm workin'onnit. I just thought I'd give you a teeny update on whats been happening.

The short-ish story is that I've been B-U-S-Y! The troupe has been gearing up for the SF Ethnic Dance Festival Auditions ( http://www.worldartswest.org/ ) which happened the weekend before last, so there have been extra rehearsals up until then. My car broke down the day before the auditions. And so a week and $500 later, it runs again! Yay! :P I'm also in the midst of a complete overhaul of my apartment, which is more ongoing, but I've been trying to push forward with it more recently. This all means, I haven't been able to get to the bead shop to get more bindi supplies until late yesterday and couldn't quite get all I needed. Argh! But I've got enough to get the orders done! :)

Okay, so for some good news! I will soon be cutting out my full-time day job to focus more on bindis! Woohoo! Which means, "what?" Yes! More bindis for YOU! And hopefully more often than this monthly thing thats been happening. So yeah, I'm going to try out focusing more on the bindis. I *might* take a part-time temp job, if it looks like I need to supplement, but I'd like to make the bindis more of my main focus.

So, there's your update. Not highly entertaining, nor is it the same as having new bindis posted, but I just wanted to keep connected with y'all.

Just wanted to let you know that I'll be going down to Tribal Fusion Faire in San Luis Obispo again this year, but I usually go down there just for my own enjoyment.
