Movements

I wanted to know what makes your movements hiphop bellydance as to opposed to just bellydance. As in different styles, attitude and music come into play, but I would like to know if you execute the movements differently or not? Why or why not?

We could probably start individual topics on each movement.

I am trying to get this right. I interpret hip hop bellydance as doing bellydance and hip hop moves to hip hop music.

For instance executing belly dance moves would involve the basic foundations I was taught but the music may not be to underground industrial music which what I usually dance to it will be the main stream hip hop. I.e. DJ UnK, T Payne if I chose any of the latest music out or even old school. I would also throw some tradional or latest hip hop moves into the mix.

    YOOOOOP!

I'm thinking in terms of fusing the styles together to create movements specific to hhbd.

For example, the posture of tribal is a modified version of chauq from Odissi dancing or raimandalam used in Bharatanatyam. Floreos in tribal are used for accents, usually without the full flamenco posture. Even in Raks Sharqi, movements were inspired by other dances.

In hhbd, is there a modification of movements on the hip hop side or the bd side or is it strickly a hip hop move or a bd move?

Let's look at the old school cabbage patch dance, fists are made and circle in front of the chest which is also circling. When you get into it, you step weighting one side to the other to turn creating a hard step. One way of fusing both styles, instead of fists, have hand undulations or waterfalls, ribcage is still circling. The weight still changes to turn, but with a soft step. Would a modification be done for any movement? Is there an acceptable give and take between the two styles?
