Question of the Week 5/11/08:
What is the first movie you remember seeing in a movie theater?
The first movie I remember seeing in a movie theater is Disney's The Aristocats. I remember my parents taking us to the drive-in way before that, though.

Mon, May 12, 2008 - 4:42 AMWalt Disney's Babes In Toyland in the early 60s. My first drive-in movie was Dr. Zhivago. I had to go in my pjs......it was a LOOOOOOONG movie. Man, I'm really dating myself here!

Mon, May 12, 2008 - 7:05 AMI remember seeing "Firestarter". Maybe that is why I love horror movies so much. -

Re: Another question for you!
Mon, May 12, 2008 - 12:36 PMYeah, so my parents thought it would be a good idea to bring me to Jaws. What sort of twisted family thinks that? And then they bought the soundtrack and would play it and I'd hide on the sofa, afraid to put my feet on the floor as I might get bitten by the shark. Yikes!
They say they actually brought me to a Western first though~ -

Re: Another question for you!
Mon, May 12, 2008 - 1:05 PMSounds like something MY dad would do! When I was little, I wanted a rubber duckie...like Ernie on Sesame Street. My dad gave me a full size mallard hunting decoy. Ha ha! -

Re: Another question for you!
Tue, May 13, 2008 - 5:53 PMIt was probably "Walking Tall" with Joe Don Baker in 1973....I seem to recall going to the drive-in before that, but I don't remember what we saw.
I do remember my mom would always fill a paper grocery bag about half full of popcorn before leaving home for the drive-in so we didn't need to go to the snack bar.
And the playground at the base of the screen was always a great place to create some new injury you could take home with you.
Good Times... -

Re: Another question for you!
Wed, May 14, 2008 - 5:15 PMThe playground was the best part about going to the drive-in! A huge metal slide, nice and warm after a day in the sun, swings with just the right amount of gravel underneath, and a jungle gym shaped like a rocket ship for my sister to push me off. Good times, indeed!
I do remember seeing some totally inappropriate movies at the drive-in, though...because our parents thought we were asleep in the back seat. -

Re: Another question for you!
Fri, May 16, 2008 - 7:55 PMAaahhh yes....The rocketship of death. Which usually had several broken beer bottles at the base of it, and the slide was always adorned with numerous shiny sharp edges...definitely good times.

Re: Another question for you!
Sun, May 25, 2008 - 11:06 PMOMG Val!! I knew we were kindred spirits, lol! My parents took me to see Jaws at the drive in too!! I was horrified for months! I would stand up on my bed and jump as far from the edge as possible, convinced the shark was in the dark under my bed.
My first movie out, though, was at the drive in. We watched "The Muppet Movie", it was good, but not a fond memory because I used to (I say used to like I don't do it know) walk around **everywhere** barefoot. My mom and I walked to the bathroom in the dark and on the way back, I stubbed my toe on a manhole cover that was slightly tipped upward. It ripped the entire toenail off of my big toe. OUCH!! I cried until we got back to the truck and then went back to watching the movie, lol! You would think that would have stopped me from going barefoot, but it didn't... deep down, I'm still that stubborn 3 year old!

Re: Another question for you!
Fri, May 16, 2008 - 9:23 AMI was a bit older when I saw Star Wars, but it's still one of my most memorable theater moments. We saw it at the Cine Capri in Phoenix...a single, widescreen theater (the first in AZ to get Dolby) with 800 seats. And the place was PACKED!

Re: Another question for you!
Sat, May 17, 2008 - 1:26 PMI think my first drive in movie might have been 101 Dalmations...I used to see lots of movies in the theatre because my grandfather was a projectionist... so I went to see Lost Horizon, Around the World in 80 Days, one of the Lassie movies and Jungle Book. All when I was pretty young. One of my other early Drive In memeries was going to see Support your local Sheriff and the Legend of Boggy Creek. I was terrified of big foots for years after that.
