Toad Flax;

submitting a photo of Linaria(toad flax) blooming in my wild garden right now.I used to have a book that had a discription of the plant that was used to make flax. Can not remember if this is the plant. Must be a senior moment. Sorry. In other parts of the country and around the world it has different common names. This plant is Linaria Purpurea. It sets seeds prolifically and comes in pink some years.I love it. The bunnies and deer leave it alone as do the slugs.Insects are also no problem with this plant.Honey bees and butterflys love it.

    -Second photo shows a few others that freely seed themselves. Pinks and Nigella. the latter is the little white one. It is sometimes called 'Persian Jewels". I know it as 'Love in a Mist'.How could you not want a flower in your garden with a name like that I ask you!! These are just a sampling blooming now.

        I forgot about Borage! Love that! Fragrance of cucumbers right? Adore chamomile. Lost it many years ago in huge snow and freeze. Must plant it again. Yes do!!! Find your notes! My books are such a jumble right now.It was comical, me trying to find old Herbal books. Still havn't. What is my pet peeve? Loaning my precious books to 'friends' and they don't get them back to me. Then I forget who has them. GRRRRRR~~~~should know better. Oh! oh! Have you heard of the 'Arm Pit Plant? *evil grin*

            *sounds terrifying...*

            Be afraid, be very afraid~~~~

            I know and grow it as 'Clary Sage" Means, used for clear eye sight. All I can tell you, is this with out exaggeration. IT STINKS!!
            Had it for many years till it died out. Biennials are kind of notorious for that.It is not note worthy for beauty. Sort of a non noticible plant in the garden. But~~~lordy lordy when you brush by it and it brushes your clothing? You'll be looking around, taking a wiff under your arms. Just that bad! No joke. ok, take that back. Heh heh*evil is as evil does* Used this plant once to get even with a real obnoxious teenager trying to woo one of my daughters.Its a long story but satisying. From my point of view anyway. The kind of story family legends grow from. *Chuckles*
            Thing is about plants. They do different things for different folks. Its those micro climates we all have in our gardens.
