hi I'm new here been lurking a few weeks and I have a question. I've been taking bellydance classes for a couple of years now....starting my third year. I have yet to perform solo. I can perform with a group just fine, but solo scares me to pieces. I don't know enough about chakras to know if there is one to work on for performance issues. People keep telling me that I'm ready, but *I* don't feel ready. I hope this is not a stupid question. I hope I make sense too!
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Is there a chakra to work on putting yourself out there to perform?
Mon, August 27, 2007 - 10:53 AMHi, Bibia,
How about the 2nd chakra...around the area of the womb? Its color is ORANGE.
The ORANGE chakra is about connecting to your Tribe and to your Community. Perhaps it would be helpful for you to articulate just WHY you want to perform SOLO? Is it because "everybody says I should" or is it really something you desire to do?
The ORANGE chakra is about being part of the community, and that seems to suit you just fine. However, performing SOLO can be something you ALSO do "for the community." There are many reasons to perform SOLO, for instance:
1. To dance as a gift to a lover or a friend,
2. To demonstrate the dance as an educational tool,
3. To entertain and tell a story,
4. To express oneself in a creative and artistic way,
5. To simply experience what it feels like to perform solo,
etc. etc. etc.
Perhaps you need to decide exactly WHY you want to perform SOLO.
If you simply want to do it to please others, that is not enough of a reason.
I like to dance alone, and sometimes I feel I'm performing for the Spirits.
Sometimes my dance is an offering for my God/dess.
Sometimes my cat is the only one who sees me dance!
Sometimes I just start dancing and my husband watches and joins in....
I performed once for my dancing instructor and her husband.
My strap broke! But I was able to finish the dance all right. ;-)
If anybody wants some chakra links, let me know...
I have lots of them!

Re: Is there a chakra to work on putting yourself out there to perform?
Mon, August 27, 2007 - 12:30 PMSolar plexus chakra (between ribs and stomach) is connected to your self-esteem and confidence, your personal power.
I also recommend grounding and centering... grounding, grounding, grounding. Picture your feet on the Earth, Feel yourself connecting with the Earth...
Personally I don't think it ever gets easier, your first performance or your 100th--you just have to walk through your fears.

Wed, August 29, 2007 - 9:00 AMWhat great info! The one I concentrate on the the heart chakra, that does it for me. I like the thought of PROJECTING love, a good vibe, OUT to whoever's there. What do you all think? -

Re: Is there a chakra to work on putting yourself out there to perform?
Thu, September 6, 2007 - 10:31 AMI actually work through several of my chakras to gear up for a performance. In fact, I do a whole visualization, starting with my root chakra and moving all the way to the crown, with each chakra, I mentally repeat a positive mantra. For example, with my root chakra, I might say, "I am stable and connected to the earth." I do that for each chakra and by the time the music comes on, I am completely at peace. :)
