Hi-
I just joined this tribe this morning. I have been dancing for around 5 years, primarily Egyptian style. I dance with a troupe, but due to the changing nature of all things, we don't dance as often as we used to. I started to dance with a new teacher last fall. . .it was invigorating! She taught Tribal Fusion, and I really connected with her and this "new" way of dancing. I have always looked at dancing as a way to connect with Divinity, and that style was like a direct physical connection. However, my new teacher had to move away, and I lost some of my direction. I stopped dancing regularly, and now I am trying to get back to that healthy space. (literally and figuratively.. .I have gained a good bit of weight since slowing down in the dance world!) Seeing this tribe was a little kick start. . .it sounds like there are like-minded women here who dance for similar reasons, and I am hoping that this board continues to connect women and remind us what lies at the core of the dance.
I am looking forward to participating in this community.
Blessings,
Patti

Re: Introducing myself- glad to have found this tribe
Fri, December 21, 2007 - 12:56 AMHi Patti,
I just joined this tribe tonight (having a little insomnia I guess) and wanted to say I feel simular in being relieved to find a group of dancers interested in healing and the feminine spiritual element of dance. I stopped dancing a few months ago and started back up with my troupe earlier this evening. It was really hard dancing again from a excercise standpoint but felt really good in my body. I also love the creativity and connection I find in tribal fusion although I currently study a more traditional bellydance style we are also working on gypsy stylazations, etc. But I love love being able to have the creative freedom that fusion offers. There is something that really connects in me with the music and the earth. Super cheesy sounding. Maybe I better go to sleep now?:) Anyhow, just wanted to say I am glad this tribe is here too.

Re: Introducing myself- glad to have found this tribe
Fri, December 21, 2007 - 11:47 AMWelcome Patti and Basira - to the dance and to Tribe!! Dancing is such a great thing in so many ways. From what you've both written I can see that you've both discovered the wonderful connection between the dance and the way we feel about ourselves, particularly our bodies. It's a very necessary connection to have, but one that doesn't come to many of us with ease. Keep learning, you really never stop. Try all kinds of teachers, it's really fun! Enjoy yourselves! -

Re: Introducing myself- glad to have found this tribe
Wed, February 6, 2008 - 10:26 AMHi, I found this tribe reading a post from a new member, Jenni. I'm really glad I found it as it also speaks to the mind-body-soul connection that 10 plus years as an ATS dancer has given to me, for which I am always grateful. Looking forward to catching up on reading over the past topics, and continuing on the inner journey of growth and awareness that belly dance, yoga and nature bring to my life.

It is truly FAB to see you here. I wish you could take classes in Charm City! There are some wonderful, holistically-focused dancers and teachers.

Re: Introducing myself- glad to have found this tribe
Sun, March 30, 2008 - 7:08 PMGreetings, Patti! I like the idea that being a Belly Dancer can be part of a whole lifestyle....and it doesn't have to involve a lot of money. Any ideas that you have will be welcome here. Even if we are not together physically, we can all feel connected as we dance....I know! I often feel my sisters' spirits around me, dancing with me, even if I do a little shimmy as I work in the kitchen or while I sweep the floor. Belly Dance evolved out of the way women naturally move. It is such a wonderful way to be a woman!

Re: Introducing myself- glad to have found this tribe
Thu, April 10, 2008 - 7:27 AMI know what you mean Maggie, there's nothing like bellydance - it feels so natural to the body, and is so easy to feel the 'history' (or herstory more like it) IN the moves.... and if you can ever take it outside into nature (especially in private), that is *such* a wonderful feeling! Let's all try to take a little bellydancing outside this spring :-) -

Re: Introducing myself- glad to have found this tribe
Wed, July 9, 2008 - 5:16 AMConfession:
I did NOT dance outside that weekend. I haven't danced much at all- except going to troupe practice. That isn't really dancing for the sake of dancing with Spirit, but it still makes me feel more open and closer. I have been caught up in learning, and I have been forgetting about "doing". In several creative ventures, I may add!
Thanks for "hearing" my confession!
