How long can I freeze homemade baby food for it to still be safe and nutritious? I'm making a batch of steamed carrots and boiled chicken and was going to mash it up and then freeze them in baby serving size... but how long can I keep it in the freezer for? Thanks.

Re: freezer storage
Tue, February 12, 2008 - 6:50 PMI think it depends on how big a batch you are making...those cubes go fast in my house! i have like 9 different flavors and i'm always making more. I only make 2 ice cube trays of each kind though at a time.
I would imagine that 2 months would be good and safe and not longer than 3 months to stay nutritous. That's just a guess of how long I would eat something from in the freezer and not notice any change in taste. Oh, and use the Freezer Bags - they tend to keep the cubes frost free and good looking (which I also translate to be a good sign) -

Re: freezer storage
Tue, February 12, 2008 - 6:53 PMI don't put plastic in the freezer anymore. I use old baby food jars to store them and I would say about the same time wise. About two months, three at the most. -

Fri, March 7, 2008 - 2:44 PMWhy can't you use plastic? I thought it was just bad to heat up food in the microwave in a plastic container. -
