Welcome, Norma! Do you have some inspiring ideas to share with us? Do you celebrate Easter or Passover and do something fun with those themes?

In the past, when my son was little, we used to get wheatberries from the health good store. We had a basket which I'd lined with plastic that we filled with earth and potting soil. We scattered the wheatberries on top and sprayed with water daily, and watched the wheatgrass grow! Then, Easter morning, this was my son's Easter basket, with goodies placed in the still growing grass.

That's way better than that plastic crap that at 28 I still somehow get. I will have to remember that for when I have youngins.
      Welcome Norma!

Easter is funny! Hope I don't offend any Christians out there, but what's with the plastic grass and candy eggs and animals? All that stuff is about the fertility of spring! It's Pagan! Kids all over America are enacting animal sacrifices (aka chocolate bunnies and lambs and marshmellow chicks) I personally don't mind. I like celebrating the changing seasons. But if you're Christian, shouldn't Easter be about the resurrection and sacrifice of Jesus? Tom Waites has a song called "Chocolate Jesus." Maybe someone should start marketing those! Sorry for the rant! Welcome Norma!

Yeah, it's true; Easter is an odd conglomeration of practices. There were pagan celebrations for Sprind that involved fertility symbols like rabbits and eggs. When Christianity came along and Easter became an official holiday, the pagan rituals kind of got included. Don't know if that was planned so as to keep people happy with their traditions, or if it just happened. It's kind of like the mixture of voodoo and Catholicism in the Carribbean.

As for plastic grass, well, yeah, that's just wierd!

Good point Kathleens. I was thinking the same thing myself. This year instead of doing the same oh same oh candy egg thing I went to the health food store and got the children special soaps to put in there baskets. Every body looked at me funny. I also put angel stickers on their grab bags. Thought it would give a clue to maybe a spritual significance. I also got my mom to say an Easter prayer for the gathering.

Although, the kids really dig the candy egg stuffs; - )

Hey, nothing wrong with eggs or candy! It's about spring! Not sure what candy symboloizes, though! I love the soap eggs! Cleansing and fertility! A clean slate for new growth! Candy...well... it tastes good! I love the real grass in the baskets!
