Homemade Spa Products

Having a spa party for 8 year olds. Thought I'd have them make and take some products...wondering if any of you have recipe suggestions. It will be a small group only 4 or 5 girls. So far I'm looking at : Lip balm (or gloss), Bath bombs, and Lotion. Always open to other ideas!

What a really great idea! I know someone who has made lip balm with her daughter and friends. I'll ask for the recipe. Lotion, of course, is easy if you cheat. I mean, buy a big container of unscented and add what you want from there: aloe, essential oils, etc.
Let us know how it goes!

www.makeyourcosmetics.com - tons of stuff you can make, I'm sure you can probably find some easy ones on there.

I agree. makeyourown cosmetics is a great site. Lots of great ideas and recipes. I made the bath bombs from their site. They're a bit tricky, but if you help them, it'd be a great thing for girls to make! They link to a site that sells supplies. brambleberry.com, I think? I Got stuff from them and found them reasonable priced and great to work with. Soaps are easy, too. Brambleberry has great soap bases you only need to melt and pour. Sounds like fun!

I like to make epsum salt foot soaks, adding herbs, dried flowers, and essential oils. Easy, and beautiful in a glass jar-- Plus, it's fun to soak your feet and then paint toenails, do henna, etc.

beautiful ideas! bath salts idea is great! I think I'll set out lots of things for them to choose from so they can creatively express their individuality...which is what it's all about right? (life that is).
        ...
Body glitter too for the finishing touch...the little goddesses won't stop smiling for months!
        ...
I have checked out makeyourown... and have used their scrub recipes (as a guide). Not really one to follow directions rigidly. Sounds like the bath bombs will force some good and needed discipline on me.

Bath bombs are a bit tricky. If you get them too wet, they'l grow out of their mold and start fizzing. Maybe not best for little ones to make. Glitter sounds very fun! Can you post photos?

I've done epsom salts, too. Add a drop of food coloring and stir well and you have colored bath salts. They look great in a jar with a decorated lid, say covered in fabric or lace with a silk flower glued on top. This would be a good project to make at the girls spa party somebody mentioned - as long as the group isn't too big.

A really fun and surprisingly easy option is to do melt and pour soap. You buy a soap base premade in blocks. You chop up the soap block, melt it in the microwave and then add color or scent and pour it into a mold. Kids can easily embed small plastic toys (fish or other small item). The Juniper Tree in Berkeley has all the supplies you'd need.

Note: you don't have to buy special molds. Well, you can but you don't have to. You can use all sorts of stuff you may have around the house like silicone molds (IKEA ha them) or other tupperware items. The girls would have a blast.
