does anyone know where to get a good led hoop? I really don't want to spend so much money on one only to find that it is really hard to use or uncomfortable in some way?

Commercializing hooping

So we all know how powerful a talented hooper dancing with a hoop can be- the experience can be beautiful, mesmerizing and like seeing a live a sensual art form. I'm used to seeing hoopers at Burning Man and other festivals from people who are for garnering creativity, expression and art... now I see a TON of companies taking hooping out there and selling it as a fitness regime. What was once something special and sacred has now become mainstream and packaged for the public....

Hooping.org has been restructured, redesigned and relaunched and I invite you all to stop by and check it out. There's more information about what's been going on posted there, and now that I'm doing this solo as well (Vera stepped down in February) I'd also like to invite you all to contribute your writing, photos, thoughts, videos and more. I welcome your talent and input in keeping this almost four-year-old world-wide community hooping project alive.

Hello all!
Im a professional hooper from New York City and l'm really excited to be traveling thru your beautiful country for more of the month of January. I plan on hitting Sydney, Melbourne, The Barrier Reef...anything else you all suggest?
Any great parties, festivals, events happening in January that I should know about?
My schedule is pretty open so suggest away!
The more alternative the better...and anything Regarding HOOPING I'm there.

HOOPERS OF THE WORLD, the feature film HOOP A Revolution of Sorts
(www.Hoopthemovie.com) is looking for digital video footage (mini-dv) of
Hoopers from all over the United States and the World to represent hooping’s
far-reaching potential. While hooping please say: I am hooper (in as many
different languages as you are comfortable speaking in).
While hooping (please, no music) can you respond to the following questions
(please always include a context to what you are saying, make sure we know
with each answer that you are talking about hooping):
What is a hooper?
Why hoop?
AND if groups of people are getting together in your community to hoop would
you please film that also.
In order for us to be able to include what you film, we need you to print
out from our website an individual release form and sign it:

Another Mega Hoop Jam at BM, Wed 6-8:30 at Deep End Camp!!!

Finally, a second MEGA HOOP JAM has been scheduled for Burning Man festival in Nevada, USA at the rockin' San Francisco camp Deep End! I hope you amazing hoopers out there in Australia will fly out and join us!!! We are fascinated by you and want to meet you all.

WEDNESDAY AUGUST 31 6pm- 8:30
DEEP END CAMP
Address: Catharsis and 9 oclock

I have booked the Deep End Camp for a major international frenzy of hula hooping madness! We chose that time because Deep End is a day party camp that closes down shortly after sunset, so sunset didn't work as a time to begin -- but their rockin djs and hundreds of party go-ers are super excited to see all that hula hooping has to offer so please join us and come play! Come show off, come share your moves, come in your finest costume, come naked, just at least come and partake in this mega meeting of hoopers! Also, DJ KRAMER will be spinning the sunset closing set of the day until we close (7-8:30pm). So come warm up and trick-out for the first hour and then totally loose it to some super hot tribal progressive house music until the close!

ALSO...

I will be teaching two community classes at Deep End as well -- come play... multilevel, all abilities... hopefully will be co-facilitated by some amazing fellow hoopers if there are many many people who show up.
DATES: Wednesday August 31 and Thursday September 1
TIME: from 2-3.

Kirstin Slye will be teaching poi classes right before me from 1-2 as well, so come spend a whole afternoon with us if you like!

La Donna Rama aka mikofanclub aka Tim Hilton has been hooping since her birth at the Wild Boys show in March 2005. Tim Hilton has been hooping since he was a child (remember those peppermint scented hoops?) running around with all the girls. He picked it up again after a fortuitous meeting with his soulsister Bunny Hoopstar in the late 90s. He got serious about hoops more recently and now trains regularly with the hoopaholics and performs with the Barbarellas as La Donna Rama - drag hoopstar extraordinaire. He is focussed on improving his hoop technique and mistressing new tricks... more soon...

i guess the main distinction between the two is that *the barbarellas* is our performance troupe and the *hoopaholic* sessions, website (currently in production) and tribe are web and 3D community zones in witch we wanna play.

we are using tribe.net to establish our individual hoopaholic identities within our newly established collective and the broader global communities. We also wanna hook into all the other hip hoop happenings around this planet to share and inspire!
