I'll be visiting my family in the Chicago area Christmas week and would love to get my hoop on while I'm there. If anyone will be around Friday or Saturday the 26th or 27th I would love to head in to my home town city and meet up with y'all!

HoopPath Workshops the weekend of November 7, 2008!

Yes, it's true. Ann and Baxter from the Hoop Path are coming back to Chicago to share their mad skills and hooping philosophy with us. They are coming out the weekend of November 7th and are still finalizing details, but you can (and I recommend it b/c peeps are traveling in from all over for it) enroll early with Ann at ann@hooppath.com. As soon as we know more we will post it here and on http://www.hooperpower.com.

HooperPower and Chicago Hoopdance are teaming up again this year to host World Hoop Day Chicago style! Last year we had over 200 people join us and this year we want even more! We are working to make this an incredible celebration so contact us with any ideas or suggestions that you may have. Spread the word. This event is perfect for all ages, shapes and sizes.

Please bring hoops to share if you have them.

HooperPower is hosting a free Chicago Hoopers Open HoopJam at Chang's Martial Arts May 10, 2008. This is a great chance to celebrate how awesome Chicago hoopers are. All hoopers, hoopers-to-be and the hoop-curious are welcome to join us at any time between the hours of 6pm and 8pm! Hoops will be available for use and for sale. WORKSHOP 1: "Introduction to the Hoop Path":

This two-part workshop will introduce you to the physical challenge and meditative bliss of hoopdance: the energetic flow art of dancing with the sacred circle, the hoop. Hooping can be an exercise, a dance, a meditation. On the Hoop Path, we approach our hoop Practice with shared intentions not only to improve our hooping skill, but also to develop the skills to go Within, as we believe that Inner and Outer strength are inextricably and intimately intertwined. The introductory workshop will be divided into two sections, both taught by master teacher and Hoop Path founder Jonathan Baxter. Together we will focus on building core hooping skills, introducing students to Hoop Path terms such as pe*A*ce, Ritmo, One Tree/Two Tree Hooping, and Two Birds. Depending on where we find our rhythm as a group, we may well get into some of the more physically challenging techniques like Reversing, Breaking, Paddling, Lifts, and Angle Hooping.

This workshop is designed for seasoned hoopers who seek to deepen their personal Hoop Practice. We will move into some of the more complex aspects of Hooping, which will definitely include challenges to the Body, but also to the Mind and Spirit. Off-body techniques that require additional concentration, such as Rolling, Point, and Samurai, will be explored, as well as core exercises designed to help you discover reservoirs of Strength you might as yet be unaware of.

About The Hoop Path:

Jonathan Baxter picked up a hoop for the first time six years ago, thinking it would help him rehabilitate some injured shoulder muscles. He never dreamed it would develop into a daily meditation that totally transformed him, inside and out. Over the years he has logged in thousands and thousands of hooping hours--what we on the Hoop Path call "flight time." Baxter's commitment to his Practice has revealed to him many of the profound subtleties to be found this ecstatic movement. This extensive and direct involvement with "hoopgnosis," coupled with Baxter's unique gifts as a storyteller and guide, make him an extraordinary teacher.

His course, The Hoop Path, equally emphasizes both the spiritual and the technical dimensions of hoopdance. Through personal story and myth, Baxter deepens the student's metaphorical and physical understanding of a wide variety of hoop moves and dynamics. His connection to his students is genuine and distinctive--as much as help you become skilled and graceful hooper, Bax wants to help you connect to your inner rhythm, and know yourself from that place.

**NOTE: These workshops will be BYOH (bring your own hoop) events** If you are new to hooping and don't have a hoop, just contact Heather from HooperPower (she will be taking all workshops), and she will bring a hoop for you to use.

It's getting cold outside so HooperPower has arranged indoor mirrored practice space for Chicago hoopers of all levels.
Bring your hoops, share your moves, learn some tricks and meet area hoopers. Music will be provided but feel free to bring your own too!

These is a donation-only event.
Recommended donation is $5-$10 to cover cost of the space.

LED Hoop SOS

Ahhh! So a battery popped in my LED hoop when I was changing it the other day, so I switched out the batteries, but now that section of my hoop won't light up! It's not the batteries, cause I used them in one of the other sections and they work. Any suggstions? I need to get this fixed by Friday. PLEASE HELP!!

hi chicago area hoopers!

I also said hi over on the chicago hoop tribe, but thought I would say hi here too.

I currently live in San Francisco, but I am going to be moving to Chicago by the end of the summer. Yay, I can't wait to hoop it up with you all.

Also, as a side note. I was planning on getting my own place when I moved there, but recently decided that it might be a softer landing in a new city if I moved into a shared housing situation. So I am now throwing it out into the universe that I would be interested in a shared housing situation that is friendly to a hooper and a cat. I am 28, employed, clean organized, responsible, fun and mellow. I seek a place with high ceilings and room to hoop in doors. Either an extra large room or I could rent a second extra room for my office/ yoga/ hoop room. I am going to look on craigs list too.

WOW: World Hoop Day in Chicago (a catalyst for the HooperPower Tribe)

What a night. I was lucky enough to co-host World Hoop Day in Chicago with the lovely Mercedes Gomez from Chicago Hoopdance (.com) and we had an amazing turnout...it exceeded expectations. There were alot of familiar faces, some I saw in class just last week and some I haven't seen in a few years...all coming together to celebrate and share our passion for hooping. I'm guessing about 200 Chicagoans and tourists of all types were rockin' their stuff with us for a few solid hours. It was a sea of smiles. There was alot of discussion with fellow hoop fanatics that we should get together to play on the regular and so as I sit here basking in the glow of a fabulous hoop-filled evening, I am excited about establishing/kickstaring this tribe. When I picked the name HooperPower, I was thinking of how it is a *power* that is within us all and how multi-faceted it can be. From sharing with others to personal development and evolution, HooperPower isn't just my biz name...it's something everyone has within them and it's a power that can extend beyond ourselves. I am looking forward to building that *HooperPower* up into a force until all of Chicago is hooping. Let's bring more happiness into our own lives and into the lives of others. Community-time.
