I have started working with a new fire troup lately. Although we do not strictly just hoop i figerd that people here might be able to shed some light on my problem.
We have found some great costume shirts to wear, they are red bodices with cap sleaves and Black lace.
For our first show i designed some lace cuffs and arm bands to add a little flair to the costumes.
unfortumatly after about 5 min of performing the had all fallen of or fallen down.
Does any one here have some secrets for arm decoration that is performance friendly.
Jane : )

Re: Arm Fixtures
Sun, March 11, 2007 - 7:15 PMYou might want to look for stay-up waist bands or elastic - they actually have rows of exposed rubber 'stitching' on them, similar to what stay-up stockings have.. so, a bit more grip against the skin to keep things from slipping.
The other would be to make an inner channel for elastic that is SUPER tight, but that is a little bit below the top of the sleeve/cuff/band so that you don't get a bulging effect over the top (if that makes sense).. and test everything BEFORE performances, of course :)

Sun, March 11, 2007 - 11:36 PMWhat about adding a little strip of velcro so that you can make it just tight enough to stay above your forearm?

Fri, March 23, 2007 - 7:39 PMYou could try the boob/butt tape or glue that models use to keep their clothes in place :) -

Wed, March 28, 2007 - 5:51 PMwhy not make a "garter" out of black elastic that you could use on other armbands, too?

Re: Arm Fixtures
Thu, March 29, 2007 - 11:40 AMFor arm stuff, I use spray adhesive (like athletes use to keep up their athletic socks and like beauty contestents use to keep their bathing suit bottoms from climbing up their behinds). This stuff costs like $3 at any sporting goods store and it lasts forever. It's also really good for keeping your cleavage inside of low cut tops. -

Re: Arm Fixtures
Sun, March 16, 2008 - 9:56 PMI've just started making arm bands out of stretchy material like Lycra or even jersey. They only cover my forearm so from wrist to just short of my elbow. Just pin and sew. super easy and you don't have to worry about them covering your hand or being hooked to a finger. Best of Luck -
