I searched for threads about hooping in a skirt, but I didn't find any... I appologize ahead of time if this has been discussed already.
Is it possible to hoop in a skirt (like a full length type skirt, not just a short one)? I am completely and utterly unable to do it, but I may just not have tried hard enough...

Re: Hooping in a skirt
Fri, May 16, 2008 - 4:40 PMI think it is one of those things that takes time. and it depends on the fabric. ..the more you practice in a skirt the better. yes! Nice long skirts make me want to spin 4 sure! -

Re: Hooping in a skirt
Sun, May 18, 2008 - 10:24 AMI love hooping in full skirts! I am a Bellydancer, so I have a few REALLY full ones- like, 25 yards- and nothing makes me spin like those suckers, I tells ya. Two things I keep in mind, are to 1) forget about the legs- with that much in the way, knee hooping and step outs are akward, to say the least, and 2) wear the skirt a little lower than your waist. I usually keep mine at about hip level- that keeps the material out of the way of my hoop for the most part. :) -

Sun, May 18, 2008 - 2:41 PMThose videos were beautiful! Very inspiring.
I guess I should have been more specific though... I meant knee hooping in particular. I saw a couple seconds of it in one of the last videos, so I guess its possible... looks tricky though!!! -

Re: Hooping in a skirt
Mon, May 19, 2008 - 9:14 AMyes, its possible to knee hoop in a skirt....not so much leg lifts or kick-outs but down to the knees and up is good. There are some limitations as far as tricks go and I would not wear a skirt while firehooping, but with a standard or lighted hoop, you can put together a beautiful performance piece with a skirt.

Re: Hooping in a skirt
Mon, May 19, 2008 - 6:06 PMI should have clarified my answer- yes, you can knee hoop in *some* skirts- And the more slender cuts and less material around your legs will of course make it easier. But I don't knee hoop in the 25 yard ones- there's just too much material in da way. ;)
