I was inspired by Khan (beautifully edited video) and all the other outdoor videos of late. I am working on shoulder hooping right now so that is mostly what I am doing here. It seems like when I learn something new that's all I do for a while.
So here it is...Atop a parking garage in NW Austin after work yesterday.

Thu, May 8, 2008 - 7:27 AMyay i'm first to comment! Really nice work, Lucian. The shoulder hooping (and everything really) is looking really smooth. The sunset shots came out nice too. When I saw the two hoops on the ground at the beginning, I thought we were gonna see some twins action...tease!
Good to see you posting...keep it up!

Thu, May 8, 2008 - 7:55 AMI really like this video, Lucian. Sweet isolations, smooth shoulder work and nimble stepping in and out around the legs. There's something about the way you guys do that weaving of the arms when shoulder hooping that I really like. Very masculine, like a boxer shifting his torso back and forth. (I actually hate boxing, but love the way boxers move.)
I have a feeling I'm going to meet you in Austin this year. Can't wait! -

Thu, May 8, 2008 - 10:53 AMwow, you've come a long ways...lookin good! really enjoyed the song and sunset. Always inspiring to see men in the hoop, especially when they are in flow.
:o)
the shoulder / chest hooping is coming along. this move will help to loosen up the top of the body, so it will get easier.
thanks for posting.

Thu, May 8, 2008 - 11:02 AMGood video Lucian. I really liked your isolations into the sunset. You looked completely in time with the now doing all of that. Not sure if you were talking to yourself or singing, but again, you were totally with the moment. Very nice shoulder moves. Mine are rough!

Thu, May 8, 2008 - 9:41 PMLucian, you have some really lovely flow; precise and simplistic but full of connection. I really admire that style. There is focusing on movement, and then there is being connected in movement and I saw that in your video. It was lovely to see you step inside the hoop with such connection. I do much more of a clamor into the hoop! LOL. It was peaceful and inspiring to watch that flow. You were enjoying it. That is what Hoop Dance is all about. Taking time to enjoy your moves does a hoop dancer a great service. This video has served as a great reflection for me. Many times recently I have become so enveloped in discovering new movements that I do not fully savor my time getting them fully into my body. Thank you kindly for posting.

Re: Lucian - "Parkarage" to music by Doof
Fri, May 9, 2008 - 9:10 AMAs always, you guys, thank you for the comments and encouragement! I must say that hooping is WAY more fun now that I can put my arms inside the hoop. I am really tight in my body from hunching at a computer all day+, so Diana, I do hope this helps.
Khan, I guess I could have put some footage of the twins in there. It's all off the body stuff, mainly poi (finally smoothing out the three beat weave). But my transitions need work, especially to the reverse. I hit myself square on the bridge of my nose the other day...(still hurts) so I need more work there. I started poi hooping as a time filler between frustrating hoop sessions. So now it's a trade off between frustrations. =)
Also, thanks for the comments on flow. Being a closet hooper and watching Marlo from the sidelines, I've loved the hoop as a skill toy but now I see potential for some real flow to happen. I guess I can almost say I'm a hooper. So thanks again for those particular comments. I've seen your videos and that means a lot to me.
More digression...I am at work right now and just got an email from someone in the Labs whose last name is Hooper.
Look forward to meeting you in the 3D, Beth!
If I can find a ticket to BM, which I want very much, or any other hooping event for that matter, I look forward to meeting a lot more of you in person. -

Wed, May 14, 2008 - 8:42 AMWell, you can DEFINITELY call yourself a hooper! You do have great flow and smiles, nice skills too. I especially liked the trick when you ducked forward and out and then did a jump in around one minute or so! That looked very cool! -

Wed, May 14, 2008 - 12:03 PMI like it a lot! Your isolations are so smooth. I love the dimension of strength that all you boys add to them.
You are a definite hooper - you have that great boyish edge to your style, and your flow is pretty seamless.
I love the sunset shots too.
Great video - thanks!

Wed, May 14, 2008 - 12:12 PMYup - safe to say you are a hooper with those moves. :) Wonderful isolations - your step ins and outs were flawless. I liked the switch between the times you were hooping - two different levels of intensity and flow.... You look great!
