Hola Hoopers~
I had some fun in downtown Los Angeles on Cinco de Mayo hooping it up. I really enjoy exploring all kinds of music to hoop with so, this was really a treat to dress up and hoop to some great Latin beats... from Mariachi music to Salsa...it was a good time.
margaritas followed...
:o)
enjoy~

Re: Cinco de Mayo hooping
Thu, May 8, 2008 - 10:48 AMthanks for the kind comments here and on Youtube. yes, it's amazing how a costume will totally get you in character.
The Latin community was quite entranced by the whole thing, but I only lasted about 8 minutes and then security wanted to me to go away. This stirred everyone around me and there was booing from the crowd to the security as I was escorted to move on...so then I moved on to the courtyard and the same thing happened, which was a bummer. At that point, security was following me around like I was up to no good, so I just gave up and went for the margaritas.
So anyways, its not okay to hoop in public Los Angeles, even if you're not asking for tips or selling anything.
oh well, it was fun aways...

Re: Cinco de Mayo hooping
Fri, May 9, 2008 - 8:43 AMawwww.....thanks again so much for the positive words.
This was really a spontaneous idea to go down there and hoop it up. I literally bought that skirt right before I did the video on that street...(Olvera street across from Union station) and threw it on over my pants. I had been wanting to try hoop spinning with a long flowy skirt for some time now (inspired by Spiral and Jewels) and so I thought this would be a fun opportunity. The nice thing about this skirt is that it has a tie on waist band, so it will fit anyone, also I was able to wear it low on the hips and obviously the spin flair is awesome. I really had fun with that. The top is by Jasmine's shop, hoopclothes.com which is super cute.
As far as the hooping in public goes, I don't know what the general rules are but I think the security guards thought I was hooping for tips or selling something, but actually I was just there to hoop for joy and celebrate life with the neighborhood. They wanted me to purchase a permit to do that.
we live in a funny world, don't we...?
anyways, thanks. enjoy!

Re: Cinco de Mayo hooping
Fri, May 9, 2008 - 7:32 PMDiana, you look absolutely gorgeous in that flowing red skirt. It so suits you. I'm always amazed at how relaxed and graceful you look, no matter the move, the speed, or the environment. (Your expression gave no clue that you were on the run from nasty security guards.) You make everything you do appear so effortless. I particularly liked how your energy and speed picked up through the video. Beautiful! -
