Here are a couple of practice videos that I recorded over the weekend. I'm still on a high from the Hoop Path Retreat... it was an amazing experience. I feel like I have so much to focus on now, after taking Baxter's workshops. Lots of new stuff to work on - like knocks, breaks, paddling and reverses.

I've sized my hoop down - in diameter and weight, and I'm still getting used to the lighter feel. So, here's where I'm at...

  • woooooooooooo, girl! i liked both of these but i was **DIGGING** #2. smooth transitions, booty shaking - you looked like you felt wonderful and your hooping is lovely. you are getting so smooth! you flowed right into verticle hooping from leg passes, your breaks and reverses are looking great. i love the behind the back moves you are pulling off, too.
  • You know, I messaged you yesterday, first in fact, but it seems not to have made it through the Tribe wiring.

I wanted to say that I could really see a Baxter influence and that your hooping had gone up a level since the retreat. Your are getting faster and smoother all the time and the smaller hoop helps with that too. But don't forget to play with your big hoops from time to time or they will get lonely! Small is fast and great fun and for a while I tried to downsize myself almost permanently, but now I've realised I need both. I saw someone write on here the other day that we all need a hoop wardrobe depending on our moods. And they are right!

Congratulations on your super fast learning curve. It is really showing now. And I've very envious of your perfect and roofed hooping space.
    • Awe, thank you all! Sue - I really appreciate your comments, especially as they relate to hoop sizing. And I'm with you on that... I don't plan to rule out the larger hoops. I like having multiple sizes/ weights around, as they seem to serve different purposes. The breaks and reverses are so much fun with a light, fast hoop but my larger hoop is great for groovin' and dancing. Plus, my PSI hoop and my fire hoop are both heavy/ large, so I don't want to grow so accustomed to the small hoop that I forget how to hoop well with the big ones. I like the wardrobe anaology. I mean, really - variety is the spice of life, right??? :D
      • great, great job! you're mastering the very thing that's been driving me crazy trying to learn. i keep watching everyone's videos closely to figure out the secret to making it work, but no luck. ah well, guess it means i'm going to the retreat next year. :)
  • SWEEEET groove and flow, woman! :)
And more inspiration on the lighter hoopthang (I'll be playin with some lighter hoops later this month). I love my heavy hoops too and will always use them, but I wanna play with some lighter ones for a change....this is all very inspirational. oxxoxo
  • Nice getting to meet you in person at the retreat! (albeit briefly). Nice seeing you integrate all this stuff too. I've been a little obsessed with this realm of exploration myself, since getting back.

I'm a little torn with the hoop size question myself. I still have big hoops but I never play with them and I have no desire to firehoop so I don't have that impetus. I seem to find my flow best when I'm accustomed to the rhythm of my hoop and switching between sizes confuses me too much. Maybe I should just work through that? I dunno.

Back to your video -- I also like the horizontal elbow-pass thing. I've been working on that too but yours are cleaner. Nice work. Flow on sister!
    • Nice work! Your new hoop suits you and you are so completely engaged in your dance. I love how your new repetoire integrates so seamlessly with your flow. It's really working for you.

It was really nice to meet you Florida gals. Each of you so talented and unique. I hope to make a trip down there sometime soon.
      • Looking good, HM! you have a great sense of timing, and your flow is smooth. i LOVE the toss at 2:26, just like Beth says, you've intergrated new moves and are becoming fluent with the new vocabulary. nice work :) hope to hoop with you again soon!
        • I wholehearted agree with Beth on this matter, your new hoop really does suit you :-) Wonderful hooping :-) Thank you very much for sharing it with us :-)
          • Break it down Fly-girl! These are Awesome. So much new movement - wow - with fluid transitions that are flowy and spunky. Fantastic hooping that also reveals what a sweet and super-fun lady you are outside of the hoop too :-)
            • Oh my GOD, girl--you are looking ab fab! (and I do not mean the show!) Your speed is zipping along...loving the shoulder breaking & paddling...also the side-to-side samurai breaks from waist up to chest & back down again (really cool)...I'm just so impressed. Damn.

It was a total joy to meet you at the retreat--wish you girls had not had to zoom off right after the ball! But hopefully you can make another road trip up sometime this year, & for sure return next time!

I have not had any time to look at any videos and I'm sad. Taking 15 mins today to look at vids as Kimo & I stop in a coffeshop in Edmonton. Missing the HVT!
              • You guys are amazing. Thanks for all of the nice remarks. Words can not express how grateful I am to have experienced the HP Retreat. The workshops were spectacular, and it was so exciting meeting everyone in person, after watching all of your videos online for about a year now. I swear, it was like meeting my favorite celebrities - because in my eyes, that's what you all are... a bunch of hoop stars. And to the people who I haven't met yet - I hope to meet and hoop with you soon!

Thank you for the constant inspirations.... I'm so grateful for the hooping community. Oh yea, and I just passed the one-year mark since I started hooping. Happy Hoop Anniversary to me :)
