Has anyone else every had this happen to them?
I was hired to perform at a fundraiser party last week. Everything was perfect except for a HORRIBLE Dj who had absolutely no idea what he was doing. He was playing awful rap and pop music and added the exact same techno raver beat to it all. I tried talking with him to see about what music I could perform to. He acted very annoyed about this. I asked if he had anything tribal sounding or maybe if we could at least slow the beat down to maybe 80-90 beats. I could tell he had no idea what "80-90 beats" meant. You would think a DJ would maybe know a little something about music...like at least tempo. My friend Stan was trying to help the guy pick out the music and as Stan looked over his shoulder the guy snapped, "What, do you just want to do my job now!?" The guy also refused to fade the song out for the 5 seconds it takes to announce my performance. Because of the DJ, my first performance started 25 minutes late and the second performance started about 40 minutes late. I don't like to talk ill of anyone, but this guy was a jerk.
Anyway, I'm done venting! Other than that it was an awesome party :0)

Re: Hooping to a bad DJ ~
Fri, November 13, 2009 - 6:04 PMThat sounds like crappy prom all over it.
Umm...let me think. On this local place called weaver street, on sunday they have live music. Hoopers go out there, but I can't see how. It's normally really bad "world" music or mind numbing blue grass for the socks with sandals crowd. -

Re: Hooping to a bad DJ ~
Sat, November 14, 2009 - 12:53 AMIf i'm booked for a gig i usually bring my own track for my act. Just make sure to let the booker know and check what format they want the music in. Most bookers would expect that an act would bring there own track for there show so they wont be put off. -

Re: Hooping to a bad DJ ~
Thu, December 10, 2009 - 12:35 PMsounds terrible! did the audience and organizers enjoy your performance? probably, others could tell that he was a crappy DJ, and i/m sure your hooping shined anyway. so, as long as others enjoyed your art and the organizers are happy with you, maybe next time they'll just get another DJ!
