Aloha kakou,
This is a sad example of the process of "blessing" being manipulated by rich property "owners," pitting one Maoli (Native Hawaiian) against others in the community.
I support those who are attempting to protect the bones of their ancestors and families.

Re: A very sad video. Ku'e in Naue. Threatened burial desecration in Kaua'i.
Sun, June 8, 2008 - 5:29 PMHi Amy. This is may have to be a harsh lesson for all the people involved. Even if the place is blessed by a kahuna, the spirits who are buried there may not like it. Without talking to those spirits there could be trouble for the people living in the house. The people who have relatives there are offended on behave of their dead kin. They should all receive a kala. The dead live on in our hearts and the people can do special ceremonies for them and feed them mana instead of visiting their graves. Life is for the living and this desecration shouldn't disturb that goal for more time than is necessary. If I could pass on a blessing of lokahi to them, I surely would. Aloha, kahuna Lamaku.

Re: A very sad video. Ku'e in Naue. Threatened burial desecration in Kaua'i.
Sat, June 14, 2008 - 3:34 PMThis is the scene; repeated time and time again, all over the world. Those whose venerated ancestors lay at rest have no claim to the land they sleep beneath, because a White man in an office issued a piece of paper sometime in the past. As that piece of paper is passed down it accrues more and more power. That those people who are buried there have descendants who never gave the "owners" the land means nothing because; when the first white man made his claim to the land the brown, or red, or black or yellow men who lived there had no paper, nor often even the belief that the land could be owned.
Here all over America we are caught up in the snare of this past. Nearly all of this land truly belongs to people whose ancestors were driven off of it. To recognize this truth would make all the claims of all the present "owners" illegitimate. To recognize this truth would highlight the institutional theft perpetrated by the US government. Texas, Florida, Hawaii, all the former "Indian Territories" and "Treaty Lands" were illegally annexed and given to that periods equivalent to the Halliburton board.
It is a slow acting poison whose only antidote is the truth and recompense. Since neither of these is likely to be forthcoming; the poison will eventually kill this nation. -

Re: A very sad video. Ku'e in Naue. Threatened burial desecration in Kaua'i.
Sun, June 15, 2008 - 12:22 AMHi Al. I know your intentions are good but, putting this entirely on the "white man" is going a bit overboard. Sinister people and people who have their value systems screwed up come in all colors, shapes and both sexes. Corazon Aquino, the former president of the Philippines was an evil woman. The USA treats most non-rich people badly. The legal system only truly works for the rich and it's mostly rich people climbing the political ladder. The Native Americans are no exception and when it comes to war "to the victor go the spoils". I don't like it any more than you but, what I find appalling is that no rich person has tried to help any of the tribes to any great extent. I haven't seen one filthy rich person make a real difference in the world with all their money. Money is a blinding thing is why "it is harder for a rich man to get into the kingdom of heaven than it is for a camel to crawl through the eye of the needle" which was an ancient entrance into the city of Jerusalem. We have allowed many of the tribes to have casinos so, people can destroy their lives and savings so some other people can earn a living. Casinos are no bargain and I'd like to see an accounting of where their money goes. Capitalism is an idealistic idea. What this country and many other countries represent is profiteering; making the maximum amount of money at the expense of the health and welfare of the public. The death of the present state of the nation is approaching. Many people can feel it and it has been prophesied by many holy men and woman for several decades. Aloha, kahuna Lamaku.
