Hawai'i 2050

July 10, 2007

Aloha,

The fight to complete the Hawai'i 2050 Sustainability Plan continues. We were disappointed to learn that, despite the media spotlight (read the Honolulu Advertiser's latest story here) and the outpouring of community support for Hawai'i 2050, this morning the Governor vetoed HB 1270.

This critical bill will complete the Hawai'i 2050 Sustainability Plan, the state's first sustainability plan.

However, the state Legislature can overturn her veto. You can support the Hawai'i 2050 Sustainability Plan by contacting these legislative leaders:

Speaker of the House Calvin Say at (808) 586-6100 or repsay@capitol.hawaii.gov
House Majority Leader Kirk Caldwell at (808) 586-8475 or repcaldwell@capitol.hawaii.gov
Senate President Colleen Hanabusa at (808) 586-7793 or senhanabusa@capitol.hawaii.gov

Time is critical. The state Legislature will vote on whether or not to overturn the Governor's veto within the next few hours. Please take a moment to call or e-mail Speaker Say, House Majority Leader Caldwell and Senate President Hanabusa. Let them know that Hawai'i 2050 is vital to creating a sustainable future for our economy, our environment and our special Island culture.

Your voice will make a difference.

    Mahalo for Your Support
    Aloha,

The Hawai'i 2050 Sustainability Plan will continue. Thanks in part to the community's backing, HB 1270 became law yesterday, giving us the resources to complete the state's first sustainability plan.

We send a heartfelt mahalo for supporting Hawai'i 2050. Your e-mails and calls were vital in convincing lawmakers that the community's will is behind Hawai'i 2050 and that the people of Hawai'i want a more sustainable future for our state.

Your support makes our work possible.

    Sincerely,

The Hawai'i 2050 Sustainability Task Force
