Anyone order and actually get a Hosaam drum in the past year?

My brother paid for and ordered a Hossam drum last April and still has not received it. It hasn't even shipped yet. Hossam appears unreachable by email - his mailbox is full most of the time. Anyone else having similar problems? Its a lot of money to tie up for a year waiting with no response to weekly emails asking for his status? He's bought a Souhail drum in the meantime for performances and recordings - his old Alexandria wasn't doing it for him. Not trying to dog Hossam, but he's just really frustrated. Thanks.

  • So here's my experience with Hossam Ramzy drum:
I ordered one from him in 2006 it took about 2-3 month to arrive. I was so excited opening the box, to find that a big chunk of the inlay was broken off. It wasn't packed appropriately. It wasn't well tuned although hossam promised to tuned it himself before shipping (the teks sounded with different pitch around the circumference of the head), and the bearing edge had uneven thickness all around. After a long debate with Hossam via email, he agreed to take it back. I had to pay around $550 for the drum (including shipping). He refunded me what I payed him initially, but I had to pay about $100 to ship it back to him (which weren't refunded). I love Hossam's drumming; however, based on my frustrating experience (which might be a bad luck only) I do not recommend a Ramzy drum.
    • Wow, that's unfortunate. I'm sorry you had to go through that.

I bought a beautiful inlaid tombak on eBAY for $600.00 and it was supposed to come with a hard case and extra head -- it didn't.

It was thrown into a soft case and shipped with virtually no padding. When I got it the base was broken in three pieces and now I am in arbitration with PayPal/eBAY... I glued it together and it is playable, but still so very frustrating.

I recommend a Hamid Alwan doumbek/tablah. You can get them for a fraction of the cost and he's in Milwaukee WI. They sound great. Fish skin on ceramic.

      Best Regards,

      Matthew
