I'd appreciate help promoting (and developing) my retreat www.baldmountainretreat.com.
I'm interested in paying customers (corporations, individuals...) as well as donating the space to non-profit groups.
Networking ideas, etc are very welcome.
Random ideas or long-term associations.
Thanks.
All good things,
Dr Dave

Rhetorics and realities?

What do you think (maybe according to your own experience) are the main rhetorics and realities involved in Human Resource Management / managing people.

For example I find many organisations pay a lot of lip service to performance appraisals and the reality always is its just a piece of paper work/excercise! - something that they just have to do now and again!

Bearing in mind good peformance is often linked to the bottom line (e.g. profits) then why are'nt organisations taking peformance apprisals seriously!

sticking to the rules

Do you think its important to stick to the rules? Surely rule breaking can be a good thing too. For example Mary Lou Cook (American community activist, calligrapher and author) says: “Creativity is inventing, experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking rules, making mistakes, and having fun.”

HRM is under valued!

My interest in HRM started when I was researching around the nature of employment law. HRM is under valued in many organisations. As an area of study, I believe, the government should consider it as part of the wider curriculum.

Employees as the most important asset??????

It has often been argued employees are the most important asset in organisations.

Would you agree with this? Maybe you think other assets such as technology are far more important? Can technology ever replace employees??????

Why are so many organisations still not valuing their employees?
