<div>The people of East Bay have spoken: Uptown Hubba Hubba was named the Best Burlesque Show in the 2008 East Bay Express Best of Awards! <br/> <br/>http://www. eastbayexpress. com/bestof/best_burlesque_show/BestOfAward?oid=776789 <br/> <br/>&amp;lt;I> <br/>Readers' Choice: <br/>Hubba Hubba Revue <br/>Mondays at the Uptown, 1928 Telegraph Ave., Oakland, www.hubbhubbarevue.com <br/> <br/>Though they perform over quirky, contemporary glam-rock songs or pop hits like the Beastie Boys' "Girls" (OMG, irony alert!), the dancers in local burlesque troupe Hubba Hubba Revue have an old-fashioned approach that would probably qualify as "classic striptease." If the flapper-ish Bootsy La Rue removes one fishnet stocking, the crowd erupts in enthusiastic cheers and jeers. Bombshell blond Isabella Minx can elicit such reactions just by swiveling her hips. Their dance pieces are slinky, highly choreographed, and often peppered with Buster Keaton antics (like battling the pair of pantyhose that won't come off), and usually favor stage presence and sensuality over salaciousness. Not to mention Hubba has a different look, more dressed up than even a more conventionally sexy troupe like the Suicide Girls: Dolly Parton wigs, page-boy haircuts, peeping Tom overcoats, and of course the obligatory tramp-stamp tattoos. Such aesthetics go over well in Oakland, especially when coupled with two goofy barbershop-style emcees in straw hats and horn-rimmed glasses, and a guy in a gorilla suit. <div>CALLING ALL HUBBA HUBBA FOLK, SWING GOTHS, LPN FANS, and FRIENDS OF LEE PRESSON! <br/> <br/>Gang! <br/> <br/>Listen up, our very good pal, Lee Presson, who has provided us with many fun times and always awesome, kinetic, always wild performances with his excellent band, The Nails, has found himself the victim of some very rotten circumstances. Frankly, he needs our help. Gather 'round, I'll try to make this brief... <br/> <br/>Lee lost his job. This happened right as he needed to pay for some expensive work on his car to get it smogged, which had to be done so he could then get it registered. Being unemployed had drained his finances considerably, but he did get new job --and on the way there, he was pulled over for having an expired registration (yep.) Then --for reasons that he's yet to discover-- the cops _impounded_ his car! Now he can't get to work cuz he has no car, and he can't get his car back because he can't go to work to get the money to bail out/repair/register his car. All in all, it's a MAJOR disaster, and it couldn't have happened at a worse time. He's screwed, he's stuck, his rent's overdue, and he needs our help. <br/> <br/>Go to iTunes and buy his music (his long out of print album, "Jump-Swing from Hell" is now available there!) <br/> <br/>Or go the direct route and send him some dough via the paypal link below.
