putting out a call for recent performance footage

Hi Hubba Hubba~

I'm in a bit of an emergency state right now trying to gather as much Revolva performance footage as possible for an updated version of my demo. I'm rushed because I need the best possible representation of myself in time to meet a few deadlines. I know the two shows I did with y'all over the past year and a half weren't technically filmed by Hubba/DNA folks.

That said, I thought I'd just see whether anyone might have filmed from the audience, etc. The shows I did were: Oktoberfest and Totally 80s. I was especially looking for Oktoberfest because that's the only time I ever did that routine (strangely, there's never again been a show where it seemed like a great idea to do a hula hooping chicken dance). I do have performance footage of Flashdance, but I'll take more if you've got it.

Thanks for letting me post on your tribe with my own selfish requests.

PHOTOGRAPHERS --Notice from Hubba Hubba-- Please Read

Hello Photographer Friends,

After 2 years of incidents, issues and difficulties, show after show after show, it is with sincere regret that we are announcing a restriction on all professional-sized camera rigs, camera-flashes and video-equipment at all Hubba Hubba-produced shows and events. Going forward, security will be communicating this at the door, and any unauthorized persons using such equipment at our shows will be asked (nicely) to put it away.

We will retain our own 3 official photographers (who are part of our organization, and have been with us since the beginning) and we may occasionally issue photo passes to guest photographers (perhaps 1 per show) with whom we have a good, long-standing relationship, but otherwise, professional-sized photography & video equipment will not be allowed.

We understand that not every photographer is responsible for every issue, but we have had complaints and problems at literally every show we've ever done, and no matter what we say or do, this continues to be the case.

These complaints have come from performers, audience members and even the venues themselves, and frankly we can no longer afford the time and effort to manage this apparently inevitable situation.

Even when we have spoken directly to these issues, our requests for good conduct have regularly been ignored, and photographers have continued to make the show experience a negative one for the audience and the cast. On more than one occasion we've even had to throw non-show photographers out of the _dressing room_ --even _after_ they'd been told directly that they were not allowed in that area.

Lastly, despite literally thousands of photos snapped at every show we've ever done; despite telling photographers that they were allowed to shoot at our events only so long as we were given copies of their material, we've maybe received, at most, a couple of dozen photos --_total_-- over the past 2 years. Clearly the only thing we are getting from this relationship is grief.

Please understand that this decsion was not made suddenly, nor was it made lightly, We've had this discussion over and over again for months, and finally we felt we had exhausted every other possible solution. For now, at least, this is how we are going to handle this situation.

While we've certainly got a lot more tricks up our collective sleeve, we'd love to know what you're thinking.

If you could pick out a theme for one of the monthly shows at the DNA, what would you like to see?

This question is for performers just as much as it is for our fans. Maybe you've got the perfect outfit that you're dying to bust out. Maybe you've got an act brewing that's just waiting for the right occasion.

The Sugarplum Elves (myspace.com/sugarplumelves) will be hosting a Calendar Release / Fundraiser / Wrap Party @ Space Lounge in San Francisco OCTOBER 18th.

We are looking for the followinf performers:

Belly dancers
Anything that can be done indoors without too much room

Since this is a fundraiser, we cannot pay (sorry, we're broke performers too). However, you can sell merch and mingle with our party people which will have at least our 12 awesome photographers, as well as models, musicians and other creative peeps.

Though they perform over quirky, contemporary glam-rock songs or pop hits like the Beastie Boys' "Girls" (OMG, irony alert!), the dancers in local burlesque troupe Hubba Hubba Revue have an old-fashioned approach that would probably qualify as "classic striptease." If the flapper-ish Bootsy La Rue removes one fishnet stocking, the crowd erupts in enthusiastic cheers and jeers. Bombshell blond Isabella Minx can elicit such reactions just by swiveling her hips. Their dance pieces are slinky, highly choreographed, and often peppered with Buster Keaton antics (like battling the pair of pantyhose that won't come off), and usually favor stage presence and sensuality over salaciousness. Not to mention Hubba has a different look, more dressed up than even a more conventionally sexy troupe like the Suicide Girls: Dolly Parton wigs, page-boy haircuts, peeping Tom overcoats, and of course the obligatory tramp-stamp tattoos. Such aesthetics go over well in Oakland, especially when coupled with two goofy barbershop-style emcees in straw hats and horn-rimmed glasses, and a guy in a gorilla suit. The "tease" takes up most of the show, but it's so artfully stylized that by the time each dancer gets down to her pasties, everyone is salivating.</i>

So now you have NO EXCUSE to miss the best burlesque show in the East Bay, every single goddamn Monday night at the Uptown Nightclub!

CALLING ALL HUBBA HUBBA FOLK, SWING GOTHS, LPN FANS, and FRIENDS OF LEE PRESSON!

Gang!

Listen up, our very good pal, Lee Presson, who has provided us with many fun times and always awesome, kinetic, always wild performances with his excellent band, The Nails, has found himself the victim of some very rotten circumstances. Frankly, he needs our help. Gather 'round, I'll try to make this brief...

Lee lost his job. This happened right as he needed to pay for some expensive work on his car to get it smogged, which had to be done so he could then get it registered. Being unemployed had drained his finances considerably, but he did get new job --and on the way there, he was pulled over for having an expired registration (yep.) Then --for reasons that he's yet to discover-- the cops _impounded_ his car! Now he can't get to work cuz he has no car, and he can't get his car back because he can't go to work to get the money to bail out/repair/register his car. All in all, it's a MAJOR disaster, and it couldn't have happened at a worse time. He's screwed, he's stuck, his rent's overdue, and he needs our help.

The shining stars of San Francisco burlesque have come together to raise funds for three venerable living legends of burlesque: Holiday O'Hara (San Francisco), Lottie the Body (Detroit), and Toni Elling (Detroit).

The Burlesque Hall of Fame is a nonprofit organization and the ONLY burlesque museum on the planet, and home to the venerable Exotic World Weekend!

Every June, hundreds of burlesque performers - from living legends to budding beauties - converge upon Las Vegas for the annual Exotic World Pageant, to shimmy, shake, and overtake Sin City!

Lottie, Toni and Holiday were all burlesque performers in the 1960s and will be guests of honor at this year's event in Las Vegas. 100% of the proceeds for this benefit show will go towards their travel costs, and the remaining amount will be donated directly to Exotic World.

Learn to Swing Dance before the Jail Break!

I teach lessons at Julie's Supper Club from 8-9 for $5/person (feel free to come and join us this or any Tuesday).

But, because I love the Hubba Hubba Revue sooooo much, I also teach lessons pro bono to early arrivals. We normally start lessons around 9:15 up by the coat check. Announcements are made. So, come early, grab a drink, and then come upstairs to learn how to dance before the band starts!

No partner required, but you gotta be hip, cause this ain't square dancin'! ;-)

WOW what a night! the polka....the women...the men in leiderhosen....absolutely amazing! if i was a drinker i would have been drinking the beer. as it was...i became the one in charge of one of the beautiful fraulein's beer mugs as "she" went to the pisser. heh kudos to the guys in drag! i only wish that i had enough guts to ask the guy in the kilt to dance. **blush** i thought he was cute, but i'm terribly shy. maybe he'll be there next time.

all the dancers were wonderful! i had only ever seen *old tyme* burlesque so i knew what i was getting into, but the ladies were great! even the go-go dancers were wonderful. i think perhaps i'll be visiting the DNA again some time soon. maybe for the 4th since i'm a scorpio myself?

thanks to everyone for putting on a great show! i had a blast!

Our benevolent Professor Kingfish has also declared a "September Special": a limited number of $10 discount tickets will be available from 9PM to 9:30PM, so show up early!

Don't worry--sexy nerd-girls start dancing at 9 when the doors open, and the show starts at 10, so there will be no lack of entertainment!

I am particularly looking forward to adorable and raunchy cheerleading from The Cock-Ts, as I've seen them before at Minsky's and El Rio and the like.

Also, the fucking hilarious and gorgeous Sparkly Devil has promised us...a Harry Potter burlesque duet. OMFG.
