Hi There Amy and welcome to the circle!

My geography isn't great (as in not sure where Southampton is close to in relation to folks I know down south), so I suggest you take a look at the UK Hoop Database www.ukhoopdatabase.org/ It lists most instructors, classes etc in UK and hopegully someone should be close by.

As for getting a hoop, most of us make hoops, so if you find a class near by I would suggest asking whoever runs it to make you a hoop - saves you p&p then. If no-one is close by, let me know and I'll PM you a few links.

I hope you love hooping as much as we all do - it's very addictive!

    Hoopiness!

As Kitty said, it's very addictive. There is always something else you could learn to do with a hoop or multiple hoops.

Find a class or a teacher and get your practice hoops from them or make your own. But if you want to incorporate hoops into an act you may want the aluminium circus hoops at a later stage (not good to learn on, you need something bigger and heavier) and John aka HoopGuy sells those on his website. He's in the UK Hoop Database.

Happy hooping. Hope you come to love it as much as we all do.

      Hey Amy,

I am based in Southsea and work in Whitely (slightly nearer to you) - if you're interested in coming along to a class then get in touch. Also I make and sell hoops so hapy to help you with size and so on even if you decide to buy elsewhere. There is also a Salisbury hooper the other side of you! Again if you want details then just get in touch. You can get me at Salsa@happyhulamonkeys.com

All the suggestions the other ladies have made are great so you can't go wrong!

Sounds like you would make a great hooper!
      Sal.x

hey! I've recently left southampton myself but was a part of southampton university's very active circus society whilst I was there. It's open to non-university members as well as uni people, there are many very skilled people there who are happy to share their skills and I'm coming back to do a hoop workshop there on the 9th of november. you can get in touch with them at juggling@soton.ac.uk

If you were interested in coming to that I could make a hoop and bring it along then if you haven't already sorted one.

In the mean time, really is a good plan to join circus soc- I think it's £5 for membership for a year and that gives you use of an indoor weekly practice area which is pretty awesome - email them first though, the rules maybe got wierd about non-uni people in uni buildings.
