Come to the hoop gathering!!! I understand that money is pretty tight for people this year ( I have 4 weddinggs this summer!) but i really feel that people need to support our community and think about attending the UK hoop gathering. The main complaint i have heard from UK hoopers over the last 18 months is that we are so spread out and don't have anyone to hoop with. I think hoop gathering is a fantastic event for people to get together and learn and i it is actually a hell of a lot cheaper than i thought it was going to be especially considering the calibre of workshops that Gemma has managed to pull together already! The £124 or £144 includes accomodation and all your food and drink thats less than you'd pay on a weekend away with friends or at a festival and thats before you evn take into account the teaching.
I think we need to help our community grow, there are some fantastic events going on in America this year like FLOW and Hoop Convergence if we want to start having events like that over here then i think we need to get behind Gemma and attend this event also I really want to catch up with a lot of the people i have only met online or briefly at teacher trainings!!
So beg borrow and steal and get yourself there!!!

  • Hear, hear!! I was so surprised at the cost - thought it would be 3 times as much. I don't think I'll afford to get to the US anytime soon & we've got Beth Lavinder coming over to teach Hoop Path based classes! And our own Sharna Rose! And lots of other great people I need to check the website again for! ; ))

It's going to be amazing...... I want to meet all the hoopers I only ever speak to on here!!
    • The whole weekend is the cost of just one day at Hoopgirl.
      • I'll third this. Come on Guys - Gail is sooo right. We hoopers always talk about how we're alone etc etc and here we are presented with a flippin brilliant value for money opportunity to play together in a beautiful setting.

I know people who are travelling a heck of a long way just to be there and spend time with their hooping buddies.

Gems has put so much time and effort into organising this, and for OUR BENEFIT!! It wouldn't be much of a gathering if she was there all on her own.

So come on UK Hoopers - Let's Gather and make the very 1st UK Hoop Gathering a memorable event.
  • I don't think it is very fair to imply that people that cannot afford to go to this event are unsupportive of the hooping community. If you can't afford to pay your household bill, you re not being unsupportive in not going, you are being realistic. Borrowing money to go to an event when you can't foresee a time when you will ever be able to pay it back is foolish and to encourage people to do so by making them feel guilty & implying they are letting their community down is just plain mean. I think that's a fairly unsupportive act on your part for the people within the hooping community that really just have no funds what so ever.
    • I think you shouldn't take things quite so personally. All I'm saying is that it's the first event of it's kind it would be good to get as many people there as possible. Considering the teaching etc. it actually hasn't worked out as expensive as I thought it would be and I am trying to encourage people who are wavering or who aren't sure about it to attend. I'm not being mean or unsupportive. The expression Beg borrow and steal fairly tongue in cheek really not really envisioning people hitting up their bank mangers for the cash to go. I think you have over reacted but no offence taken :)
      • I would love to go to this but just can't afford it this time around. I'm sure that Gems did everything she could to keep costs low, but in comparison, one of the festivals I go to every year only costs £40 for the weekend, including camping and all workshops. I'm actually volunteering there this year, so it won't cost me anything except food.

Having said that, if money hadn't been an issue, I would have loved to support this event because it's about time we matched the US hoop festivals! If we get another next year, I would really like to go :)
        • Y'see, my comparison is organised dance events, not festivals, which are often at least double the cost of this event but would compare similarly in terms of accomodation, meals, high-level tuition etc. It's always hard the first time an event like this is organised & I agree with Gail that we should support it as much as possible to have the opportunity of it running again. Not that I'm suggesting anyone robs their granny for it, but it'd be nice to see us coming together as a community for something other than a Teaching Training or in a corner of a festival somewhere! : )
          • Definitely - I love the idea of a hoop festival, not just a "hoop corner in someone else's festival", like you mentioned, Amanda... I think it's awesome that Gems has managed to organise it, cos I know how much effort these types of events take to set up and run. It would be great to meet everyone in person too. I'm quite jealous of the folks that are going!
  • 'm really looking forward to coming along - I haven't had had anyone locally that are out and about in the hooping world so it will be nice for me to finally meet people that know what the buzz is about. I think the cost is fine given that it is a) a couple of days worth of workshops from ace hoopers, b) includes lots of goodies like food!! yum yum c) accomodation options d) a chance to get away for a mini break from my world of boring admin!

While I would automatically say 'I can't afford it' in actual fact for me, i can't afford not to. I've seen all the ads for hoop jams and hoop clubs in London but they are just not an option on a weekly basis from where I live so this is something special so I don't feel I miss out on everything! When will this opportunity happen again! Some people will have to stop and think whether they really can afford it - especially with finances as they are these days and make their decision based on that.

I'm driving 200 miles to get there and probably picking up another hooper on the way - hope we don't get lost!

Look forward to meeting everyone there. I'm no where near as good as lots of you so hopefully there will be some workshops accessible to a slow yet enthusiastic hooper = me :) xx

PS - I've never even been camping so I'm very excited about that too! Crumbs - a learning experience all round.
    • Hey Sally!! How are you?!!

I'm seriously thinkiing about this - although I'm not sure it's gonna be ok for such a rubbish hooper as me??

Not sure I'm cut out for camping though!! Did you go on the Hoopgirl training? If so - how did you get on!??

Also.. have I got this right........ WISPA!!!!? (You go girl if I have!!!) xxxx
  • All this hoop camp talk has created a real buzz! Im quite jealous i dont have a ticket yet.
Im waiting for my last student loan to come through in 4weeks so hoop gathering might be an option then, if tickets are still available. If not i will start stashing the pennies away for next year!
his summer is definatly a brillaint time for hooping in the UK with hoopgirl and body hoops trainings, hoop jams and hoop gathering there is lots going on so hopfully our little UK hooping community will grow closer and larger.
It sounds like alot of hoopers are aready attending, be sure to capture lotsof photos and vdeos for those that cant be there.
Sue- Thats a really good point about day tickets, I could definatly make a day if a whole weekend was finanically out of the question!
  • I've been putting off buying a ticket as I wasn't sure if I was going to be in the country or not, now I'm thinking I'll probably be here and don't want to miss out!
Thing is, I don't actually know any other hoopers (apart from you virtual lot of course)- do you think it's acceptable to rock up on your own?
    • Hi Helen!

Of course it'll be okay to rock up on your own - you won't be on your own once you get there! I think lots of folk may be travelling alone, but I also think that Gems may be organising some transport routes etc so people can share.

If you can get a ticker, come join us! It would be lovely to meet you.

      Kitty
      • Helen.. I'm rockin on up on my own!! I've sent you a message... ! Could be a Stonehenge hoopers (well in my case wannabe hooper) road trip! xx
        • Yay Sarah you went for it! See you there!
          • Yay!! I did Sal - but I'm really quite nervous about it - but excited at the same time! Can't wait to meet you! I got in touch with Bee and am meeting her on Sat - well excited! Thank you so much for your help! :) x
            • Ah you are welcome - after your class with the hoopster Bee you will be way ahead of me! I just wanna be part of it, have a spin and take in everything it has to offer. I'm REALLY nervous too but I'm so pleased hooping found me as it helps me to take steps to do something I would never do before - because I just enjoy it so much! I don't think it matters how good you just as long as you are enjoying it. I think we will all learn so much over the weekend of the hoop gathering - whether we a re beginners or pros :)

              See you soon!xxx
              • *coughs & splutters!" I don't think so Sal - I've seen your vid.. you're very good, smooth & graceful.. and me... I'm simply AWFUL! An absolute KLUTZ!!!

I'm so excited about Saturday though that I'm wishing the days away! At last - some proper help!! Bee looks like an amazing hooper so I know I'm gonna get a lot out of it... think I'll be hooping my way home afterwards instead of driving! (okay maybe not!)

I fully agree about the HG.. it'll be a really nice experience and I'd never have contemplated going somewhere for 3 days on my own before I found hooping! Like you, I thoroughly enjoy it - instant smile (when I'm not frowning with concentration!).. it has SO many added benefits that I didn't realise when I first came across it - what a result! I am eager to learn lots and I reckon we'll all have a great time and a great laugh!

Take care - & see you there!! xxx
  • Heyyyy hoopers!

Gems here of UK Hoop Gathering.... :-)

Wow.....!!! I just came across all of these posts! I am amazed - I had no idea there was such discussion about the event! As you can tell by looking at my horribly empty profile, i'm not on Tribe very much at all - so completely missed all of this.

Well, I'd like to say thank you to you all for your support!! It really does mean a lot to me - it's a big undertaking putting on a retreat, so your love and kind words mean loads. THANK YOU!!

I can't wait to hoop with you guys in summer - it's going to be excellent!! :-) Yippeeee!!
If you've got any questions about the gathering...please ask away!

    Gems xxxxx
