Where are you all hiding

Hi, I am 5 months into this amazing journey of my place within the hoop dance and I'm looking for others who share this passion. I want to skill share and get together with others in order to create a sence of community in the uk that is shared by many in the states. I am not a natural performer, I am not confident about being watched even when I am good at something but I do have skills and I am obsessed with the never ending ever increasing circles that I find myself encompassed within.

Hi,

I'm based in North East London and am equally keen to get more of a hoop scene going on in the UK. I know of a few hoopers dotted around Brighton and Bristol but have been battling to find anyone closer to home to play with! I started hooping last year and am dying to learn more tricks.

Hi,
I'm in North London and new to hooping, although enthusiastic...!
Got my hoop from the US as it seems difficult to get anything good here. Best idea would be to make them, but I'm still figuring out the whole hooping thing, so no time for playing with brightly coloured tape etc.

Hi - I'm in North London and keen to meet other hoopers in the area.
Where do you practise and do you know of any other hoopers in London?
I use the studio in my local gym when it is free (usually in the mornings) for hooping - not a huge room, but has mirrors and they don't mind me hooping to music of my choosing. So that is quite cool, really.

I'm looking for other hoopers in the area to see if we can set up a regular gathering (cheap or free)!
All the best
Diana

Well, so far I have the amazing ability to not drop the hoop for about 2 minutes - but I'm getting better. i found that 1inch hoops are much easier to keep spinning than the 3/4 inch hoops but they tend to inflict bumps and bruises when I try to learn a trick (finally getting the hang of lifting the hoop from waist to overhead).

I'm in Bridgwater btw - it's south of Bristol.

I figured out what the problem was - 16mm tube ain't 3/4 inch! I'm using 20mm tube now and
it's much easier.

OOh I was hidding.
I'm also North East London. (Chingford)
Been hooping for almost 2 years now.
My backyard got loads of hoops. I've had all the neighbours kids hooping.

Would love to meet up sometime with fellow london hoopers.

Hi Sharna
So pleased to have joined your tribe today and know that I am not the only hooper in the U.K. although I am quite far away from you guys down south (Harrogate, North Yorks)
I do teach very basic hoop classes and have got some fantastic results both for myself and my class members with ab toning. It works so amazingly well and I can tell you when you've had twins, you need it.
The best thing I love about hooping is the fantastic feeling you get while you're doing it: freedom, relaxed, chilled, fun (especially with the groovy beats going on in the charts at the moment). I just want to get better at this and have been so inspired by some of things I've seen in the U.S. that I've been working really hard to get Diana Lopez of BodyHoops and BettyHoops (yoga hoop dance) to come over here to do a conference for us. The only thing is that we need to get 13 participants in order to be able to cover the costs. We do have the offer of a free venue in LEEDS, but I guess that would be quite far for you guys to come. I've managed to get some discounts from local B&Bs if you wouldn't mind sharing. Anyway, if anyone is interested just go onto my tribe thingy (i'm new to tribe as you can tell).

Hi all,

I'm new at hooping and have only been hooping for a few weeks. I got started after seeing the Scissor Sisters' video 'Filthy/Gorgeous' (like so many!) and I went out to ToysR'Us and bought a water-weighted hoop and struggled at lot at first to even hoop around my waist. Now, I can do a few tricks but not many and not terribly well either but I'm getting there :-)

I live in Nottingham so I'd be interested to hear from anyone near here- I really don't know anyone at all who hoops and I'd love to find some folks to hoop with.

What is this thing with Heart FM? I looked on there site but couldn't find anything. I'm not a good hooper but if there's a promotion of hooping then I'd love to be involved!!

Anyway, this is just a hi to everyone on this board *waves*.

It seems kinda quite here, do people post elsewhere more?

Hi Sara,

I have a good friend who lives in Notts and is also learning to hoop! She is part of the juggling community which meets at the Uni Campus on a Monday night. She's also on Tribe so I'll introduce you. Happy hooping :)

Miss Trixtra,

That would be so cool- thank-you so much!! xxx

I am curently in the process of buying a pro hoop but would happily hoop with that with anyone who is into hooping and would put up with my limited abilites. I'm pretty much right by Notts city centre, close to Lenton so your friend and I are only a few miles apart I suspect.

Yay- this has made my night :-)

Ta,

Sara x

Hi Sara, it is quite quiet in this tribe but I do think that as hooping becomes more popular and tribe becomes more well known in the Uk then it will become a bit more lively. hooping.tribe.net/ is a more interactive tribe because it is in America. They have had hooping going on in a big way for a couple of years. But by posting on this tribe you've already made a contact so I guess its doing what it should do - networking people. Also try tribes.tribe.net/hoopingvideos if you havn't already.

peaceful hooping

Hi,
I'm new to hooping and looking for hooping classes, workshops or hoopy friends who live in the midlands! I am living in Malvern so can get to Brum but would like a chum to hoop with. Do you know many people in the midlands or of a network I could join?

Hi everyone, I just joined today :)
Anyone from the west midlands, or around that area?
I'm from Malvern in Worcester, which is about an hour away from Birmingham.

I saw the Heart FM ad a few weeks ago and was hooked straight away!
I've bought a hoop and the HoopGirl dvd, which I'm just waiting on (shouldn't be too much longer I hope) and I'm so excited about it!
I haven't got any experience in dance or anything and I was never any good at hooping as a child... anyone else in the same boat?? Oh well, at least I'll have fun trying :)

Hope to talk to you all soon,
Natasha

Totally! I was a total failure at hooping when I was little.. but I just can't stop now! - as for experience in dance..pah, none whatsoever. Doesn't matter I don't think.
Happy Hooping!

Hi Natasha!
I'm also in Malvern and about to start hooping. I'm also waiting for my hoop to arrive and am planning to start belly dancing classes soon to see if it helps. I'm not a dancer either so perhaps when your hoop arrives we could meet and swap notes?!

Hello all,
I'm a Brummie hooper and toying with the idea of getting any local hoopers with a free sunday afternoon together at one of the local parks to share tips (and compare bruises). Hopefully we could get a regular thing going, coz if I don't find somewhere else to spin my hoop soon, my dog's gonna leave home! Aargh!
So who's up for it if the rain holds off?

Hi Cath, this is a bit of an old thread, not sure who will see it. When you say you have moved to the area, which area? Are you anywhere near Leamington Spa? If so, we have a monthly meet up there and last month we had fire, albeit in the daytime.

Hey all--
I am an intermediate hooper, (videos of me at Burning Man can be found on videos.google.com by searching "Kapilina firespinning"). I was in the Kapilina Hawaii fire troop, thus the vids.
I am in Cambridge, and if you guys are looking for a quite basic training session I may be able to assist if it is within a reasonable distance close to Cambridge. I moved over here from Boston, Massachusetts, USA, where we have a quite active and diverse community, about two-three months ago, and I have been craving some hooping since. I brought with me a substantial amount of tubing, and about 12 pre-assembled hoops, so I could even bring hoops to any workshop.
I only check tribe occasionally these days, so please be patient if you send me a message. Alternately, you can email me at duncan.odom a t gmai l. com (remove obvious spaces).
and PLEASE email me if you are in the cambridge area--I would REALLY like to help nucleate a community here!
Happy hooping!
Duncan

Hi, I've just joined this site- would be good meet you and any other hoopers in and around the Norwich area. I am teaching myself and I think I'm doing ok. At the moment I have 1 hoop friend here in Norwich, but I'm friendly with the cambs crew and will be meeting up with them soon. I think the hoop scene might take some time to kick off in Norwich, like Poi, but we're gonna try & make it happen:)

Hi Duncan,

I live in Huntingdon and come to Cambridge to hoop quite regularly. There is a community group called Cam Circus that rent out a hall every sunday between 5pm-8pm. There's loads of different stuff going on juggling, staff, poi ect. They have a web site
www.camcircus.org/

At the mo it's still based in the city life centre but from July, we'll just be meeting up at parkers piece.

Happy Hooping

Spose i'd best announce myself here !

I'm an oldie from Bedfordhsire but have lots of energy and patience to learn.

I got my first hoop last friday, 19th January, from Sharna and I have hoopgirls dvd from John hopefully arriving tomorrow. I did a vid on youtube just so I can see my progress. (toulouz is my nic)

Already I have friends wanting hoops and would like some dif weights myself so I have found some good priced MDPE 25mm tube X 50m @ £18.99 from Screwfix. Its the blue water pipe, is this ok? Cant find any straight male couplers .. would appreciate a source for these?

Well I'll be lurking, watching and learning and of course practising out in the freezing cold weather now, daily. None of my rooms are free enough to do it indoors!

Talk to ya again soon .. I am sure to have lots of probs along the way !! And this group looks the best place to be .. Alan

We were doing a weekly spot at a bar but we're now looking at getting sponcered to do workshops on the beach through summer and also doing some festivals (including "The Fire Festival" if anyone has a fire hoop?) But yeah hooping is very much on the up! About to order an L.E.D. one too... very exciting! x

Hello everyone! I've just started hooping a couple of weeks ago at the British Juggling Convention, and I really enjoy it (though i can't do much yet) I'm in Leeds at the moment, being a student, and will be back living In Aylesbury in about three weeks time. If there's anyone around either of those areas, I'd love to learn some new tricks, have a (admittedly, rather limited) hoopjam, join an existing club, whatever.

Hello!
I'm so chuffed to find the uk hooping comunity finally has it'd own presence here. I'm based in Kent & teach hooping as part of the Kent Circus School workshops. I practice at our circus club in Whitstable on tuesdays (all are welcome). The hoops have really taken off since we introduced them last summer and I've we've had quite a few people buying hoops so the love is definatly spreading :)
It would be great to meet more local hoopers though, as I left my hooping buddies behind when I moved down here from Manchester :(

I am also going to be doing some hooping as part of the Expressive Feat peformance for the Whitstable Oyster Festival & I'm dead nervous!

Hi! I am an American student who will be studying in London for the next 5 months. I'm located in Kings Cross....I actually don't know London at all, and have no idea where that actually is in relation to the rest of you haha. I've been hula hooping for about six months now and am absolutely obsessed with it. I like to think I'm a fairly intermediate/advanced hooper, I do LED and also fire, though I don't have my own fire hoop.
I'd love to organize some kind of hooping troupe! I have one with my friends in the US but they're all off in different countries so I'm going through withdrawal.

There are lots of hoopers that go to a meet in London on Tuesday nights. It's run by a really great guy called DevKev and most of the notices about what's going on can be found www.homeofpoi.com/ubbthread...rt/34/vc/1 on this thread on Home of Poi. Just post into that thread if you need more info on where and when and they will be only too happy to tell you. If they do find a new venue and you do go along see if you can find a very skinny guy called Simian and ask him to show you his hooping. It will open your eyes to a whole new way of hooping :o)
