I'm in the market to purchase a travel hoop but I'm a bit out of touch and am not sure as to what is on the market at the minute. Does anyone have any suggestions? I think i would like one that coils down rather than seperates in to parts.
thanks! x

Re: Travel Hoops
Thu, April 24, 2008 - 2:52 PMI know Sharna makes collapsible hoops, I have one of hers and I like it a lot :)
I also really like the look the hoopnotica travel hoop, breaks down into 4 segments and you can change the size from 42'' to 37''. i'm going to get that in the summer. you can get it on John's (hoopguy.com) website for the UK.
Hope that helps.

Re: Travel Hoops
Fri, April 25, 2008 - 12:44 AMHi Sonia,
I can definitely recommend the BodyHoops Infinity Travel Hoop.
I have been using one of these as my "preferred" hoop for the last 8 months now !!!
Normally a "Travel Hoop" is just used when you are travelling, but these are so good I use it all the time.
Nice grip with the cloth tapes, handles nicely and comes in three sizes.
I have these in stock, so take a look at my website, www.hoopguy.com
I also have the Hoopnotica Travel Hoops, very Grippy, and same price, also I have TheSpinsterZ collapsible LED hoops, so if you want an LED hoop you can take on holiday then take a look at these. I just sent one of these to Norway, for an 8 year old boy who has made it to the final of "Norway's Got Talent", you can see his previous performance on YouTube www.youtube.com/watch
Glad to see you are around again, hope to meet up and hoop with you again soon.
Best Regards,
John.

Re: Travel Hoops
Sat, April 26, 2008 - 5:21 AMI've got to get a travel hoop before my holiday to crete next month and im stuck between the hoopnotica and the bodyhoops. I hoop with a 39" hoop so was thinking that the hoopnotica one will be either too big or too small. What sizes are the bodyhoops ones? -
-
Re: Travel Hoops
Sat, April 26, 2008 - 6:58 AMThe Bodyhoops come in 3 sizes,
Small 38-39"
Medium 41-42"
Large 44-45"
I have a medium one and it's a lovely hoop to work with. I'm taking mine to Spain next week! And it's SOOO convenient to just fold/unfold.
The Hoopnotica is a bit lighter than the Infinity, so at full size it is again a lovely hoop to work with (nice and grippy too) but maybe a little quicker because of the weight, but I find it a bit too fast at 36". It's also a bit of a faff to take apart.
Personally, I prefer the Infinity for travelling with. -

Re: Travel Hoops
Fri, May 2, 2008 - 8:19 AMwell I ordered my Infinity Hoop today and can't wait for it to arrive! i've felt lately that my 40/41" has been too big so erred on the side of caution and went for a smaller one. will update when it arrives! -

Re: Travel Hoops
Wed, May 7, 2008 - 1:44 PMOh, this is making my job harder!
I am going to buy a travel hoop on Friday night. I'm going to meet John at his juggling club so that I can see both a Hoopnotica and the Infinity hoop and choose. I have hooped with John's Infinity but that was a while ago. Now I am worried it might be too heavy, but then his hoop is a big one. All of a sudden you are all buying Infinities, I love the design, but I also love the sound of the grippy tape on the Hoopnotica hoop and also the fact that it would break down and go into a duffle bag. Such decisions ;~)/ I've just said anything red/pink/purple or green so I'll see what he comes with!
Today was a perfect hooping day, pity it was a working day. But I managed a few spins in the sunshine.
It's nice to see you back Sonia. The hoop is very therapeutic.

Re: Travel Hoops
Thu, May 8, 2008 - 1:43 AMHi Sue,
The grippy tape of the Hoopnotica is good, but it's a bit of a faff to collapse. I much prefer my Infinity to travel with. And actually, although it's a bit weightier than a standard hoop of the same size, it's still a lovely hoop to work with. The Infinity hooks nicely between the handles of your handbag for super portability.
I got to choose my own colours from John's storeroom when I was in Nuneaton in March and I was like a kid in a sweet shop! Hoops everywhere, and the choice of any colour Infinity I wanted!
Have fun choosing (or not... if you can afford both) -

Re: Travel Hoops
Thu, May 8, 2008 - 11:22 AMMy infinity arrived today! It is a lot heavier than i am used to. But i need a travel hoop so will have to deal with it. I had a right good old job trying to get it to coil back down, i guess its just practise. it did seem a bit wonky though, i couldnt seem to straighten it out. maybe im just scared to be too rough with it - i thought i was gonna break it! id be interested in the hoopnotica if its lighter, but its the size that bothers me . -

Re: Travel Hoops
Thu, May 8, 2008 - 11:31 AMhi there~
your Infinity hoop will last a long while and can withstand the folding and unfolding, over and over again. The closing and opening will get easier. Keep in mind that the connectors are swivel inserts, so you can swivel those two points out to get your hoop back to its circular form, otherwise it will be wonky...it's all up to you to fully extend the hoop out to its full form. You will develop strength with this hoop, and in doing so you can do everything with that hoop, that a lighter hoop can do. Also, sunshine or warmth can help to make your hoop open more easily, as the material responds well to it being warmed. Hope you enjoy your hoop, especially when you're traveling around...

Re: Travel Hoops
Thu, May 8, 2008 - 7:50 PMsee after reading the reviews about the infinity, i am quite tempted to get it,but i want one that's just really a travel hoop and the hoopnotica one appeals to me,especially the fact that you can have 2 different sizes to it unlike the one size you have with the infinity. grrr too confusing! i wish i could try out both and see which i prefer :( -
-
Re: Travel Hoops
Fri, May 9, 2008 - 7:18 AMOK, to add to the confusion.....
Infinity is one size, but you choose the best size for you, 38 inch, 42 inch, or 45 inch (all approx)
A really great hoop, I have been using one for 8 or 9 months now as my "main" hoop, and it still looks good.
The Hoopnotica is REALLY grippy, so it is fantastic to learn knee hooping even with trousers on, especially when working out how to get the hoop back up to your waist !!
Yes, a choice of sizes, if you want either a 36 inch, or a 43 inch, just by leaving out, or adding in one section of the hoop. The problem is this doesn't give you a 40 inch option, so for some people it is either too big, or too small.......
Only problem with the Hoopnotica is that it can get damaged rather easily if it bumps into a wall, furniture etc with the lovely grippy soft foam tape tearing and peeling away from the hoop. So if you are not very careful it soon doesn't look so good.
Of course if you look after it properly and treat it with respect, (in other words don't lend it to anyone !!!) then no problem, and it is the best hoop I have found for learning new tricks where you need that extra grip.
OK, Infinity and Hoopnotica are normally £31 each, but if anyone wants one of each, ask me and I am sure I can do you a special deal. :-)
Of course if you come to Nuneaton on 5th July, or attend the HoopGirl training, then you can try them both, although you will probably still end up wanting one of each.... :-)
I hope this helps.
John.

Re: Travel Hoops
Fri, May 9, 2008 - 3:45 PMI've just been and collected my travel hoop from John.
In the end I had the choice made for me. He hadn't got any Hoopnotica in stock although more are on their way. I needed mine this week though, so I have an Infinity hoop, 42" medium size. But it wasn't a disappointment to choose it. They really are very well made and such a neat idea. I then went back with John and saw his amazing Aladdin's cave of hoops, including infinity hoops of all colours. Talk about a sweet shop! This hoop is a bit heavier than I've recently got used to, but not much, and having spent some time hooping recently with 20mm tube hoops I have noticed that I've lost some of my arm and shoulder strength that I gained when I was a new hooper with huge 25mm hoops and I have to say I didn't want to loose that. I love the feel of a heavy hoop for waist hooping etc. So this new green and shiny machine will help me get that back. It might also discipline me a bit more with my shoulder hooping, getting the chest and back isolations going properly.
I've just had a quick spin in the sitting room and it's great. I look like an old crock though, having strained my shoulder with over exuberant weekend hooping, trapped something in my hip which is giving me a dead leg and pain in my hip and back and a sprained ankle (I thought this was supposed to make me fit!). But apart from the limp, the bandage and the sore shoulder for lifts, the hoop looks and works great.
John had taken a battered Hoopnotica hoop along for me to try out though. The tape was very dinged and torn and that ruins the look of the hoop. But it was a great weight and the grippy nature of the rubbery tape is excellent. He has new stock on the way and I remember a recent thread on the Hoopnotica Tribe where the quality of this tape was discussed and I'm pretty certain the outcome was that Rayna said the new hoops are using a better quality tape that shouldn't rip so easily. If this is the case they are still a major contender for learning hard stuff.
I may well get a Hoopnotica hoop anyway when the new stock arrives, specifically for learning new and hard tricks and for moments when so much of me is dented that I haven't the strength for the heavier hoop. And anyway, I have to be up on the market for my tape business! That's a great excuse. As for looking after it, I find that my hoops need resilience. I don't mean to be hard on them, but I am. I'm always trying something that results on me landing on them (by accident) or failing to catch them or banging them. It's not lending them to other people that's my problem, it's letting me use them!

Re: Travel Hoops
Fri, May 9, 2008 - 4:11 PMThanks for your reviews John and Sue! I think in the end I will settle for the Hoopnotica one. My large hoop is 42" so i doubt one more inch would cause me any worries. Do let us know when you get some more Hoopnotica hoops in John :) -

Re: Travel Hoops
Thu, May 22, 2008 - 3:24 PMHi Monica,
I now have new stock of Hoopnotica travel hoops for £31 inc P&P, I also have a few of their Hoop Totes to carry them in .
Hoop Tote is £10 on its own, or £9 if bought and shipped with a hoop.
Hoopnotica come in Pink and Gold, or Teal and Silver.
I also still have Infinity hoops as an alternative...
Both are great hoops, with their own good points.
The choice is yours.
Happy "Travel" Hooping !!!
John.

Re: Travel Hoops
Thu, July 3, 2008 - 2:45 PMWell done Mon! Does this mean exams are over?
What a great time to buy a new hoop, at the start of summer with exams out of the way.
They are pretty. They stick well too. But take care of the grippy tape on concrete, gravel etc. It tears and I can't find anything like it to stock as a replacement.
Have fun.

Re: Travel Hoops
Thu, July 3, 2008 - 4:35 PMYup exams are over!
We haven't exactly have had much of a summer so far :( But I'm going camping soon so hopefully the weather will be better and I can hoop loads :D Indeed they are pretty, I have the pink and gold one, it's pretty! I will take care of it most definitely, I wouldn't want to ruin it. -
-
Re: Travel Hoops
Thu, July 3, 2008 - 11:19 PMI saw one of those hoops at Glastonbury, really pretty but quite knackered on that lovely grippy tape. So I add the warning to be gentle with your new baby :-) -
-
Re: Travel Hoops
Fri, July 4, 2008 - 3:58 AMi will be. i gripped it too hard yesterday and my nail dug into the foam and left a mark :(
say when all the foam has finally fallen off, i could just retape it with normal tape no? obviously it won't be the same but that'd do? do you think it'd change the weight much? -
-
Re: Travel Hoops
Fri, July 4, 2008 - 5:17 AMYou could re-tape with gaffer tape which would give you good grip in return. It will add a bit to the weight, but not much I don't think, and it is very robust.
