I'm just going to have a little moan about how much I miss hooping. I MISS IT! I should be studying but I went on youtube and was watching all the vids and my body was doing the moves while I was watching it and I could feel the hoop (even though I wasn't hooping) with every move and I just miss it! I haven't really played in a long while, partially due to laziness and partially due to the fact that I can't/couldn't seem to learn any more moves and was messing up the moves I did already know which just made me feel worse. I can't wait for summer to properly arrive though. The weather's been a bit crap lately to be honest..infact that's an understatement, but I'm hooping when the weather gets nicer and exams are out of the way, I'll get back into the hoop....Not to mention that I've grown fatter since I stopped hooping regularly! *blush*
So...who misses playing with their hoops or who's been naughty and not paying attention to their hoop? Make your pledge to yourself (and your hoop) to be a better hooper! :D

Re: Little Moan/whatever you want to call it
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 1:37 AMEven when I'm not giving my hoop as much attention as it constantly cries out for (play with me, play with me please), I still have moments of plateau. Right now I am in one of these. Whenever I pick up the hoop I find myself doing the same old comfortable moves, they feel great but I don't feel that I am moving creatively or fast as I would like. The new moves I try just end in tears, or I'll try to do it with my family around and this results in frustration or mild anger. I think that when this situation happens putting on a blindfold or just spinning would be good (none of which I really ever do, mind!).
I pledge that I will pick up my hoop with out any expectations and just allow what will be without any negativity, if any negativity arises I will acknowledge it and let it pass. :-) I pledge to spend at least 5 min's blindfolded and 5 min's spinning with each practice. -

Wed, April 30, 2008 - 4:14 AMSharna, I find it hard to imagine you could ever reach a plateau, you're amazing! You're like a hoop goddess!
I feel your frustration though...I feel like I know nothing and have to start from the basics sometimes.
But good on you for making your pledge!
Now you remaining lot come out and make your pledges :p

Re: Little Moan/whatever you want to call it
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 5:01 AMWell, pledges are often cause to fail when life gets in the way, and I'm not into failing at the moment. So I'm not pledging something I can't keep to. I have had very little proper practice for ages because I'm just so busy with work, evening commitments etc. I can't do much about that. But I do try to grab my hoop for just 5 minutes a day for a quick spin. If you are busy, don't even think about tricks. Just hoop to some music for those 5 minutes. No pressure, no expectation. It really can relieve the strain and generate a bit of energy. I have managed to get outside sometimes for a bit longer and that's great, but I'm still not into trying new moves because there isn't the time to concentrate on them. I just dance. Try dancing for a whole track simply passing the hoop around your body with your hands rather than being in it. It encourages flow and release into the dance and stops you thinking about tricks. Some of the best hoop dancing is actually quite trick free.
Most of all, don't give up. This busy, wet and cold spring is depressing enough. Just keep on going. -

Re: Little Moan/whatever you want to call it
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 8:39 AMgod, I am hearing all of this above! I have experienced everything you all talk about and it kinda makes me feel better to know that its not just me.
I had to start from the beginning again lately and I started with just a lot of waist hooping and awakening my core muscles. from that I've picked up some bits here and there and have actually been a bit more focused by looking at my posture etc. I'm slowly getting my mojo back! oh, and having gone through a very bad bout of sciatica, the pain has subsided almost completely. :)

Re: Little Moan/whatever you want to call it
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 3:17 PMSue I hear what you're saying and I think you're right. I had a little play today for about 10mins just waist hooping and not doing anything difficult, I just get a bit frustrated that things I used to know how to do and should be able to do e.g. hoopnotica floats, i can't even do those properly anymore. Right now I'll try not to stress too much but once exams are over, I'm going to do a crash course! -

Re: Little Moan/whatever you want to call it
Fri, May 2, 2008 - 1:39 AMHi Mon I am liking the pledging idea and Sue's idea of just fitting in 5 minute a day. i have had major work stress, a grotty chest infection and 20 hoops to make at different points of the last four weeks and actually getting in the hoop seems to have taken a backseat I physically miss it (when a good song comes on the radio sometimes I want to pull my car over and hoop). BUT the infection has gone, the hoops are made I have a big meeting with my boss's boss today to sort out the work stress and i got an intrest free credit card and put hoopgirl 1 and 2 on it because I felt I deserved it. So now I have the motivation and hopefully more time I am going to try and play a bit every day!! Hope the study goes well xx

Re: Little Moan/whatever you want to call it
Fri, May 2, 2008 - 3:37 AMThe 5 -10 minutes thing is also really good for getting a new move. We've all bruised ourselves and got very frustrated by constantly trying to get a move to work. But I've found that if you do 5 minutes practice of a new move, a couple of times a day and then forget about it in between, it comes more quickly than spending 1/2 hours at a time on it.
The rest period seems important to the muscles and to our brain understanding what we want it to do. You may have half a dozen unsuccessful 5 minute bashes at it, but it's not long enough for the frustration to kick in and then suddenly - it works!

Sat, May 31, 2008 - 6:15 AMDIG!
I have hardly hooped in nearly a month, my garden's too small, I've been too lazy, uni's been too hardcore. :(
I miss it!!
