I'm on topic hijack at the moment! Tooo many questions!! Sorry!

Just to ask those of you who already have liability insurance (that aren't already covered by a gym qualification, or other means), do you think £157.00 a year is a good price? This would be to cover 1 x class session a week & up to 12 hoop jams! (This is the best I could put it to them! ) I have every intention of doing more than I have just said but for now, I thought this would suffice! Any ideas / suggestions welcome as I would love to hear some views before I go ahead and agree to this!

HUGE thanks!

Me xxxx

hmmm mine is about £50 or £60...but when I first started ringing around I got a similar quote to you. I then went on and checked for insurance as a class instructor as that is what I do and as long as I don't try to teach martial arts or give medical advice I am covered from what I gather! xx

Hi Sally - did your insurer stipulate that you should hold a relevant recognised qualification as a class instructor (they usually do, especially for that price)? Double check your policy, because if it does, and you don't have one, it could invalidate your policy. Also - where did you get it from, because if all is well with it (I hope it is!), it sounds like a really good deal and it would be great to share!

Sarah - that sounds a bit steep, but it could be the usual rate if you don't hold a recognised fitness certificate. Hope some others can chime in on this for you.

        Hello Ladies,

        My policy states...

"Fitness And/or Aerobic Instructors And The Like (exc Martial Arts)"

I did explain on the phone when I sorted it and I beleive we fit into 'and the like'!!!! As it happens - for my own development and use I would like to do an ETM course in the future but at the moment I can't fit it all in.

I checked the other details and the policy was £66 through Fortis. Of course it doesn't cover for things like fire hooping - I think for that you need really to be Equity registered and I'm not quite sure how that all works but it's something I'll be looking into in the future.

        hope this helps.xx

          It helps lots! Thanks!

"the like" is a very vague term and definitely works in a Hoop Teacher's favour. I'll look into them myself!

Fire is the one thing I'm struggling with, but am yet to get enough performances under my belt to qualify for Equity.

The main thing with Equity is that you've done a paid gig & have one booked in for the future. It's something like an extra £12 a month for fire performance. I'll check my documents.....

    £Hello lades,

Im just looking at setting myself up with insurance for classes and with the help of laura have found a good del.

Its £135 per year, thats with £5million cover. I explainded about hoopdance and that I dont not have an etm quaification etc.. Tere was a quote for £90 from the same insurer for £2million cover but i think i need the higher. It was from reevs-astly performingarts insurance, they class it as a dance instructor but are cleas it is hoop dance wth hula hoops.

I am going to pay and get it all sorted tomorrow, another to-do crossed of my list!

      Hi Hannah,

I've got my insurance with them as well. Looked at their list of art and performance activities that they cover and even though hoop-dance isn't listed, they seemed perfectly happy with what I explained to them.

I paid £105 and I'm covered for classes, workshops, hoop-making workshops, performances and event organising.
(fire not included and I can increase to £5 million anytime).

However, I do recommend ringing them rather emailing: experience has shown me that they seem to ignore emails unless they're direct from the website.
