Central, AL Celebrates World Hoop Day

World Hoop Day Tentative Schedule Weather permitting: wanted to get this out A.S.A.P. so everyone could go ahead and mark their calendars for special hooping events coming to your area on World Hoop Day September 9th, 2009. Remember this schedule is tentative and is subject to change so check back frequently or respond by saying you will be in attendance, and I will personally keep you updated on the whereabouts of our Central Alabama Hoopers on this awesome day!

Our tentative non-profit hoop outreach schedule for World Hoop Day is as follows:

8am-9am ~ Mother’s of Preschooler’s Hoop Freedom Outreach Program
Location: First Baptist Church Pell City, AL

10:30am-11:15am ~ “Hooping 101- Free Hula hoop dance & fitness informative class geared towards kids ages 6 and up and the young at heart.”
Location: Homewood Public Library
Our curriculum:

10:30 am-10:40 am ~ “ Oh the Joy of Hooping- Informative hooping intro and Hoop fitness demo”
10:50 am- 11 am ~ “ How to make your own hoop demo”
11am- 11:15 am ~ Free Hoop jam in Homewood Park

11:30 am-1:30 pm~ Free Hoop Jam in Homewood Park followed by Magic City Hooper’s Lunch (Confirmed)
Location: Nabeel’s Café and Homewood Park

2pm- 4pm~ Local World Hoop Day Convergence "Hooping atop the Mountain" (Confirmed)
Location: Vulcan Park just under Vulcan statue overlooking city of Birmingham

6pm- 7pm~ Kid’s Free Hoop gathering (Confirmed)
Location: Kid’s Castle Lakeside Park Pell City, AL

9pm- 12am~ TBA
Location: Soon to be revealed!

Classes start in less than 2 weeks!

Beginning hoopdance is a course taught over six weeks, in which one will learn:
♥Waist Hooping
♥Hooping on the hips
♥Turns
♥Passing
♥"Lasso" and variatons
♥"Beam me up" and variations (continuous lifts and drops of the hoop)
♥Neck hooping and variation
♥Chest Hooping
♥Hooping around the shoulders
♥Thigh hooping
♥Angle variations

Classes will be every Monday at 6:45 at Nomadic Tapestries, located at 1219 B&C Jordan Ln. in Huntsville, Alabama.

First six week course beings October 13, 2008!

Rates:
♥$15 drop in fee
♥$60 for full six weeks
♥$75 for full six weeks, plus one pre-made fully taped hoop for you to keep!
♥$80 10 class card: prepaid card that may be used for any class offered at Nomadic Tapestries. (Card expires in 3 months. One person per card - no sharing.)

Want to take Hoop Dance Classes?

Hey everyone!

So, I have been invited to start teaching some open hoopdance classes here in Huntsville! I want to start them in October (I know, that's so soon!) and I am looking at days to teach open classes, right now! :)

I am just wondering what day(s) would work best for anyone who would possibly like to start my class. It can be in the evening through the week (except Wednesday), and I am not opposed to weekend class, either!

well guys, it's been great, but on the 22nd I am moving to Colorado Springs, CO. I know, even before I get to try the open hoop classes. I can't take all those hoops with me, so i'm having the regular ones on sale for $10 each, and there's 1 specialty one with irridescent tape and purple tape originally $15 i'll knock down to $12. If they don't all sell before I fly out I will keep them at my parents and still sell them online through paypal and have my parents ship them out.

It was great trying to start a hoop revolution in Huntsville, but life has gotten a bit crazy and the airplane is calling me. If anyone wants to have one last hoop get together before I go, let me know, and I'll arrange something. Ciao bellas!

why yes, we can haz open hoop classes!

open hoop classes will start march 7th and will be the standard $40 per month and $12 walk in. the day and time will stay the same, every friday at the studio on jordan lane from 6:30-7:30. you can also purchase a 10 class card for $80 and use it for any of the classes that the studio offers: http://www.naughtynomads.com/studio.php

hoop troupe?

anyone interested in starting a hoop troupe? only basic skill is needed of keeping the hoop up and traveling, but if you have been practicing and know even more that is awesome! i would be helping with the rest with in depth performance practices. once i hear if anyone is interested i'll find a place for us to practice (and figure out a name).

Hoop-For-All

I'm going to start hosting Hoop-For-Alls starting in February at the Saturday Artist Market at The Flying Monkey. Dates are TBD right now, but I will be bringing hoops to play with and sell while listening to some uber cool music. I may even bring my henna! Those who want to come perform with their hoop, bellydance, or just plain jam out are welcome.

possible spring/summer hoopla?

anyone interested in a spring or summer hoopla? I would be providing hoops for everyone to tape themselves in whatever colors they want and it would be potluck as well as some hooping outside and pictures of course. maybe even move it to a bigger location as my house is small. ditto landing is about 5 mins. away from where i live. or there's always the park. lemme know what you guys think.

Hoop classes

Ok, the day is definite this time. hoop classes will be at the studio on jordan lane every friday from 6:30-7:30. classes are pre-register only due to space and is a 6 week course of classes for $50. Classes start this friday, January 18th. pre-register can be done through paypal (message me for paypal address), or can be paid on first day of course. please make sure you can make all classes as refunds are not possible.

I have 9 spots left for the classes. even if you're going to wait to pay at the first class i'll need your name to reserve your spot. I'm kicking off the very first 6 weeks of my classes by spicing things up with a little contest. those attending will find out friday...hehe ;)

Hello Huntsville!

Hooping.org has been restructured, redesigned and relaunched and I invite you all to stop by and check it out. There's more information about what's been going on posted there, and now that I'm doing this solo as well (Vera stepped down in February) I'd also like to invite you all to contribute your writing, photos, thoughts, videos and more. I welcome your talent and input in keeping this almost four-year-old world-wide community hooping project alive. There's some good information too on how to get a hoop group going and if you need any help let me know. And if you want to write something about getting one started or what's happening in Alabama that would rock my world!
