Re: The Hurdy-Gurdy Handbook
Mon, July 17, 2006 - 9:30 AMBalazs just mailed me a copy. It's great, although the English translation at least has a lot of typos. It's probably available only through Balazs's website. -

Re: The Hurdy-Gurdy Handbook
Wed, July 26, 2006 - 11:48 AMI have a few copies. Melissa is correct that there are lot of typos: the press pulled an un-proofed copy of the text I had posted as a intermediate update on the web and ran with it and then left us no time to make corrections. Had they pulled the correct copy, I am certain that most of the problems would have been rectified.
If you want a copy, I have a few I can sell. The cost would be $20, including postage, for a U.S. destination, preferably paid by check. If you are interested, please let me know.
Best,

Re: The Hurdy-Gurdy Handbook
Thu, July 27, 2006 - 7:39 AMSorry to mention the typos, Arle! It's a great book regardless, and I'm very happy to hear that it's available in the US. Everyone should buy one, if only for the stories about how to serve a hg player alcohol.
I know how painful it is to see your work turn up with typos. When I wrote for a newspaper, the editor kept inserting errors into my writing, which were always agonizing to see under my byline.

Re: The Hurdy-Gurdy Handbook
Fri, September 29, 2006 - 2:32 PMReid,
About a month ago, I sent you a copy of the book. I haven't received payment back from you and don't have any way to contact you directly. If you didn't get it, please let me know. If you did get it, please send me payment: these copies are limited in number and from my own personal supply, so if I don't get paid, I lose money on them...
Best,

Re: The Hurdy-Gurdy Handbook
Tue, October 10, 2006 - 6:38 PMI owe an apology to Reid. Turns out he was out from town for an extended period and did not receive the book until a few days ago. I don't want this post to make it sound as if he is a deadbeat since he is now at all.

Re: The Hurdy-Gurdy Handbook
Sat, August 19, 2006 - 3:08 PMGinny, if you want a copy, just send me your mailing address. You can contact me directly at alommel@indiana.edu.
Regarding a maker for repairs, it really depends on what sort of repairs you need. Some repairs are ones that it actually serves players well to learn to do themselves (making bridges, new tangents, etc.), while others could be done by any competent luthier, and others (e.g., servicing the wheel) really need a maker who knows the instruments. What sorts of repairs do you need to make? Also, if you aren't already on the hurdy gurdy mailing list, that is a great place to ak questions and find makers in your area. Visit www.hurdygurdy.com/mailinglist/index.htm for more information on subscribing and so forth. The closest maker I know of to you whom I would recommend for major repairs is in Maine, but there may well be others closer to you that I don't know about.
Best,
Arle
