Hi everyone,
I'm new to this tribe (and the hurdy-gurdy). I've wanted a HG for a long time. While doing some Google-type research I was excited to discover a HG maker in Finland named Billy Horne. www.billyhorne.com. Since I'll be in Finland this February (walking distance from his shop!) I was thinking of calling it fate and purchasing one. At the very least I'll try to visit his shop. Has anyone heard of this maker?
Also, since I've joined this tribe, it currently beats the number of Cumbus tribe members by one. Sorry Carmine!
Greg

Re: Anyone Heard of a Billy Horne HG? ...Yes
Fri, October 20, 2006 - 1:25 AMHe used to be fairly active on the HG mailing list, but I haven;t heard from him in awhile. If I were going to Finland, I'd try to look him up. Seems like somebody did show up at OTW with one once, but I didn't get to play it myself, so I can't tell you much....anyhing ....sorry. Well it looked nice.
but in answer to your question. Yes I have heard of a Billy Horne HG.
Walking distance?. (In Finland in February? Oooo...Kayyy..) You may as well check him out, while you've got the chance. Let me know what you learn.. -

Re: Anyone Heard of a Billy Horne HG? ...Yes
Fri, November 9, 2007 - 5:09 PMNo question: Yes. For a quick reference, here is his web site:
www.billyhorne.com/
Here is a lovely site address that shows him:
www.arsnet.net/ANJ.asp
My needs were different back then when he wrote to me. I was shopping back then.
I had wanted an actual lira, but was too shy to ask him. He was very very nice to write to. ( I own two gurdys now.)
His items are probably very fine quality. You owe it to yourself to go there to see him, and by all means plan ahead. Have a still camera, film, and a video. Or, if he has a video camera, bring a blank tape that would fit his camera there. Help him out, too. Take many pictures of his shop, and the products, and of him at work. You could send those back to him. Very few people a blessed enough to get to Finland. Ask him for copies of some Finnish meodies for gurdy, or is there a good Scandinavian CD that features lira? Make an appointment with him, and ask him ahead to copy a few scandinavian songs that show the lira in his culture. He could play some melodies for you. Don't hold back with such a rare chance to enhance the world of music. And, share it all with this list! Were it me, I'd crawl through a good Finnish snow storm to get to my appoinment with him there. :)
