i figured i'd introduce myself, since i just joined up :)
my name is Brooke and I just got diagnosed as having reactive hypoglycemia. i was suffering for months with massive headaches, dizziness, blurred vision, heart racing, you name it and the docs had no idea what it was... i went in for some many tests for various illnesses that i almost thought i was going crazy/making my illness up...
then my doc had me tested last week. yuk! i hated that glucose test... what a pain.. but honestly, i'll do anything if it stops the craziness i've been living with.
i feel like it's only been a day but already my life is changing drastically. you know, figuring out what to eat, finding new meals, making sure i eat at the right time *not eating sugar... gah... how i miss my sugar*...
but well, here i am now... and Hi :) nice to meet ya

Re: hola!
01/17Welcome!
Avoiding sugar is hard, especially, if like most people, you are somewhat addicted to it. But after you avoid it for a while, you lose your taste for it and will only like foods that are lightly sweetened.
Heath food stores have lots of what I call "healthy junk food," candy bars, ice cream, etc., that are not sweetened with white sugar. Check them out.
Make absolutely sure that they are not using white sugar under another name. (My favorite is "evaporated cane juice"; though technically not white sugar, it's still sucrose.) In fact, I try to eat only candy bars which have no added sweetener other than dried fruit. (I previously mentioned Larabars in another thread, and swear by them.)
Enjoy your new life free of unnecessary suffering!
