As an IBDC event manager I want to put an end to any rumors against our stars. We were told early on that if things didn't go well just blame the stars from Egypt and Lebanon, to cover ourselves, we at the IBDC will NEVER subscribe to this type of dishonesty. Our stars Dina, Amani and Saad all did their part to make this event happen, they went the extra mile as did we, by getting the proper visa's, and not asking them to come into the country on tourist visa's and then work under the table. We did things by the book, and sadly it set us back. We will continue to pursue events and conventions and bring these stars to Las Vegas!
The people who have gone out of their way to create false accusations and create problems between the IBDC and these performers will not go unnoticed.

Re: Putting an end to the rumors!
Fri, August 10, 2007 - 6:36 PMVery interesting post indeed. I wonder who was giving you advice like "just blame the stars from Egypt and Lebanon". what kind of people are you talking to? Are these the same people that led you to the drastic overestimation of possible attendance? Meanwhile you yourself posted on bhuz that Dina's papers did not get stamped and that was her issue when in fact the issue with Saad and Dina was that they did not get their deposit nor their air fares. I would not call that going the extra mile. Its nice of you to say that they did their part but your team certainly did not. You said that Raqia was the one to break her contract. should we believe that?
If you did things by the book you had better get a new book and quick. Was this book in English or Jibberish?
You might also want to rephrase the "our stars" because they obviously are not yours. As for people making comments that are not in your favor you just have to take the heat that you yourself generated. You asked for this attention by claiming this was going to be the "big one" then putting your photo everywhere. You screwed up big time so don't hate people for noticing and announce comments 'will not go unnoticed" . Who the hell do you think you are scaring? If I can offer some advice it would be to turn your attention away from the criticism towards making sure all those winners, teachers and musicians who were promised checks in the mail actually get them. You will have no credibility if they do not get paid. That should be your number one priority if you ever want to do this type of thing again.

Re: Putting an end to the rumors!
Fri, August 10, 2007 - 9:33 PMMiles, most of the criticism is coming from you, you seem to think that you know the business of the IBDC when in fact you are speculating. I am not going to rehash on every belly dance thread with you just because you can't let it go. I can accept criticism as I said on bhuz I have thick skin, I am working to do what's best for Gold Star Internationale, and when I see untrue rumors I am inserting what actually is going on, as they said on bhuz, this is getting old. I am focusing my attention elsewhere. Thank you for your interest in the IBDC, maybe we will see you there next year. -

Re: Putting an end to the rumors!
Mon, August 13, 2007 - 5:00 PMDear Aradia, I think it is important to differentiate between criticism and correcting false information. I am more interested in the latter than the former as I have no axe to grind with you. I also think the truth counts for something. That is especially true when large claims and announcemenrts are made.
1. Visas are being blamed for the non appearance of performers. That is NOT the case with Saad and Dina. It was that they were not paid and did not get the plane tickets promised. I know that Saad lost business that he could have had as he thought he was going to be at your event.
2. Your suggestions that I was against this event from the start and that I was unduely interested in it are also incorrect. All I did was forsee what others also saw and I did not get involved other than talk to a handful of friends about it. As it turns out I was correct to advise those that asked my opinion about it to get their money in advance. As you probably know there is a list of teachers and musicians as well as the prize winners who have yet to be paid what they are due. Perhaps you would be so kind as to tell those people when they can expect to be paid as they are certainly calling around asking what to do. Its a small business after all.
3. I am rightfully concerned about credibility in the business of bellydance as are all the other promoters and as I am sure you are too. I feel that incorrect statements and fudging what happened are not helpful in the big picture though to you personally they may be emparassing. I can certainly understand and sympathize with that. I have no doubt that you want this to be old and go away but you must understand that it will not until an honest apprasal is had by all including you. That is how credibility is either further eroded or begins to be repaired.
