Okay, I have refrained from postings. I have attempted to adopt an attitude of "faith" that Gold Coast would come through as promised (many times promised) and I have discouraged the troupe (and instructors) I was representing from hiring attorneys.
But I guess the time has come. Sad though it makes me to say this. I think we must simply give up on Gold Coast from doing anything they have promised.
To this date, we have yet to receive so much as
1. a CD with stills from the two (yes, 2 ) shows that were performed in.
2. No DVD of either show.
And obviously, need I say it ?
3. No paychecks form services rendered.

Dancers do not get rich. Dancers teach class, pay for rehearsal space, practice and prepare choreographies for new performances, buy or sew new costumes and jewelry and hair pieces and adornments. They pay for new promo photos, business cards and fliers and sometimes websites. And Bellydancers do more free performing for benefits than any other group of people I know!
Dancers have to pay for rent and house payments, car payments, insurance, car repairs, dental bills, kids to get braces for, Christmas gifts to buy and groceries to pay for.

Yup, Delores and Alex aimed high - the dance community supported, volunteered and cheered for them and Gold Coast did get the shaft from both the hotel and the unions in Vegas.
But
the people who need to be paid first have yet to be paid and it's coming up on 6 months gone. I will no longer pass along to the troupe the myriad excuses that they feed to me.
I will no longer tell them to "wait a little longer' when their husbands and boyfriends and mothers tell them "Sue those people! You worked for them and they need to pay you!".

I'm done IBDC. You have really burned your last bridge with me.
Basically, what I was told is: nothing is confirmed yet and they're working on finalizing details.

Then I asked the big one:

"I'm also curious about how this event is going to take place, since I know several people who particpated in the event last year, and they haven't been paid yet."
As per a conversation I had with Alex Herrera this morning, there will not be workshops with Tito here in Vegas during that weekend due to the conflict with Fahtiem. Alex told me that he did not want either workshop to suffer due to the other.
Alex also told me that although Tito is doing a show on Feb. 10th, that event is a private function and not open to the public.

Three of our dancers competed in the Jr. Solo Division and the music was started early on 2 of them. Fortunatly my girls are experienced enough that they were able to recover quickly but this resulted in messing up their dramatic opening. The next day for the troupe competition I stood by the sound guy and told him not to start till I gave him the ok so this time it worked out but the video guy was missing!!! He strolled in toward the end of our performance eating something. No one said a word about it to us. It sucks because all the winners received copies of their performance except us! So we are out prize money and the DVD. Did anyone receive their prize money yet?

I'm not going to be vague or cryptic about this. Where is the money for the winners at IBDC? It's been six weeks since the "Biggest Event in Bellydance History" ended, and none of the winners in the tribal fusion category have received their prize winnings or any indication of when the checks will be mailed. It's my understanding that none of the dancers/troupes in any of the categories have received their winnings either. Every dancer and group paid entry fees on time and danced in support of the event. Now we are left waiting and wondering if IBDC is going to honor their end of the contract. So far, all enquires have been met with promises of "in two weeks" or "I'll call you back." We still have no definate date, time, or location to pick up or receive our checks. The website still urges dancers to join IBDC in 2008, but the dancers from this year haven't even gotten paid! I find it ridiculous and unacceptable that we should need to consistantly call and try to discover what's going on.
Where are the organizers professionalism and ethics? This is turning into quite a debacle. It doesn't bode well for other bellydance competitons & events that support dancers, and it has left many of us with a bad feeling.

We were told early on that if things didn't go well just blame the stars from Egypt and Lebanon, to cover ourselves, we at the IBDC will NEVER subscribe to this type of dishonesty. Our stars Dina, Amani and Saad all did their part to make this event happen, they went the extra mile as did we, by getting the proper visa's, and not asking them to come into the country on tourist visa's and then work under the table. We did things by the book, and sadly it set us back. We will continue to pursue events and conventions and bring these stars to Las Vegas!

The people who have gone out of their way to create false accusations and create problems between the IBDC and these performers will not go unnoticed.

It's finally wrapped up, we had many challenges this year, we had visas in hand for Amani and Dina, but the US embassy in the ME wouldn't stamp their paperwork so they could come to the event. Amani emailed me last night, they tried everyday to get the embassy to give them the approval stamp and it just wasn't happening! she was so upset, it's been 12 years since anyone presented her in the US, and she was ready to come over and wow us!!

Our Monday night show rocked with all of our teachers, Tito was a wonderful surprise, we weren't expecting him to show up! Tuesday's Tibal legends show was awesome, She'enedra was off the hook with their fire and sword work, They are so on!! Loved Ultra Gypsy's show too, they had such a wide range in their style!!

Also, a big congrats to our two local dance troupe's that took 1st and 2nd place in the tribal competition, you guys Rock!

I really think this topic has been discussed enough but Dina feels that everyone should know the truth. She is also in the process of letting the arab community know and will have something aired on ART- the arab satellite channel that had commercials advertising her and Saad's performances.

My mom (Dee Dee) spoke to Dina today and she told her exactly why she didn't come. Dina never had a plane ticket to come, none of her band members had tickets, no one had a ticket. Yes, they all had visas, that was not the issue.
The problem was Alex broke the contract he and Dina had together. The deal was that he would pay half of the agreed upon amount upfront before she came and the other half when she arrived. She never got a penny.

The agreement was that she would fly straight from Monte Carlo- where she had a special party she was dancing at- to Las Vegas.

She told my mom "I never went to the airport or waited in any line, why would I go to the airport without even having a ticket?"

About the cost of the visas... Dina had 10 members of her orchestra coming with her and Saad had about 10 from his group... say 22 or 23 total. Each visa application costs 600 LE, Egyptian pounds, roughly $100 dollars.
$100 x 23 = $2,300....
At most, the total cost for the visas would have been $2,500.

Dina wants everyone to know that it was not a visa, a government, or an immigration issue, it was just that the terms of the contract were not meet and the sponsors broke their promises.

She does not plan to keep quiet about this because she feels it makes her look bad and hurts her image.

The IBDC organizer’ operating system was very organized, very punctual and honest since the first day we contracted with them.
- They executed the contract as it is drawn
- paid the visa cost
- Paid their duties as mentioned under the contract
- Visa were issued after we missed the performance day
- IBDC are discussing with Mr. Ali REDA for rescheduling the event as soon as possible.

FALSE RUMORS: rumors running that the IBDC organizers underestimated the amount of people who would register and due to the low turned out they canceled the show because they couldn’t afford to bring the headliners. Those rumors are wrong for the following reasons:

1. The IBDC organizers paid in prior the whole amount for renting the hotel arena
2. The flying tickets were already provided
3. Not only dancers and the one who registered were coming to the show, Amani has a large popularity with the Arab communities too. Our friends, class mates and others who contacted us in person, via email or phone call and were coming to the show were over 600 people.
4. People were informed ahead by the organizers; some were calling daily asking about Amani’s arrival too
5. The organizer had to refund the tickets’ money to the audience

So his loss was because OF the visa was NOT issued on time.
We believe that if any person had a problem or was involved in such big loss while trying to get this art form onto a high level we should stand up for him and support him not to come against him.

*Please bring Amani!!!! I totally understand that the whole VISA process is a nightmare, but pretty pretty please try again next year. We love her! We want to study with her! We want to experience her dancing in person. I'll be the first to sign up.

*Can the competitions and shows be at different times? Maybe competitions in the afternoon before the shows or something. I would have lovely to see some of those wonderful performances. It was a shame they were in direct competition with each other.

*The open stage should really be free to the public if possible, or at least much cheaper. Some of those open stage audiences were a little sad.

*Competitions should be free or really inexpensive to go see. This creates more hype and excitement. The $25 fee discouraged people from coming especially for some of the smaller catagories like the kids.

I think that's it. Not bad for the first time. =) Loved the workshops (more Lubna-she is a doll!!!!). The Friday show was so much fun, even with all the last minute changed and everything. You guys rocked!!!!

Erik and I are teaching a Power Belly Workshop on Tuesday afternoon July 31st at 3:00-5:00 .

It will be done to LIVE MUSIC and you will SWET, so bring a towel. It's an incredible workout that is entrancing as well as energizing. Great for instructors to learn POWER BELLY. Erik's has a wonderful unique sound; bass, drums, gongs and zornas and maybe some of the other members from House of Tarab will drop by (depends if they were gambling all night)
You do not have to have a weight belt to do the workshop. The workshop will train you in how to use weight belts for increasing stamina, quicken the learning curve, keeping weight gain down, trimming and toning (there are a few secrets) . There will be belts for you to try on. (remember each belt is 10-14 pounds so we will have maybe eight to pass around). However not to worry the other way to approach Power Belly is isometrically. And it's incredibly beneficial as well and in conjunction with them.
You will learn enough about them to get a weight belt at some other date or you can order one in advance and we will have it for you at this workshop 206 632-2353. We will also have alot of Fancy weight belts that are made of velvet or brocade tapestry fabric and have coins, tassels and rich fringe. They are very beautiful. (Shipping still applies we don't take them on the plane with us)

We look forward to seeing you!

Delilah and Erik

Note;
A Labor of love; We understand that some dancers on TRIBE etc have a problem with the price of our belts. Please keep in mind these are not made in China, but made in the USA from premium materials. They are heavy. 10 belts in assorted sizes is over 150 lbs. Every-time they are moved it's a major undertaking for seamstress and vendor and it's not a huge amount of profit. When you buy them from us it is the whole sale price at the moment (they may go up shortly because of gas costs). We assure you we love what Power Belly does for dancers and are dedicated to sharing the wonders of Power Belly, or we would do something else. We have amazing letters from students and teachers who seem to LOVE their belts and it makes us feel all warm and fuzzy inside!

Well, it's a workshop involving props that are useful in Tribal Belly dance. We will be teaching some She'enedra combos that you can use with swords, poi, & palm torches, maybe even fans.

If you have your own sword or something you can balance (even a book!), poi, palm torches or votive candles, and fans bring them along. So we will have a few props available for students to use and I'm sure the many vendors will be happy to sell you stuff.

here's the official workshop description:
Paraphernalia
Allure the possibilities of enhancing your show with props. Spinning veils and carrying swords, baskets, and trays on your head is a good test of balance, as well as the art of spinning poi. In this workshop learn tricks and exercises in improving balance and grace while spinning or carrying props. We will explore a few zil patterns and introduce the concepts and basics of poi as additional props.

If you have not seen this show, you have not yet lived! It is the most exciting performance I have seen since the very first time I saw Rachel Brice drop to the floor in a layback. The 'Pony Play' is pure genius! Believe me ~ get in your car, get in a plane, and get your asses to Vegas ~ you cannot miss this workshop and two different performance sets!!!!

UNMATA is a professional, multi-award-winning, bellydance fusion troupe based in Sacramento, CA . Formed in 2003 by Hot Pot Studio’s artistic director Amy Sigil, UNMATA’s current members are Shelly DeCant, Luna Taylor, Casey Staub, and Kari VanderZwaag. The high-energy teamforce of UNMATA is known for extreme choreography, inventive Tribal improvisation, and for tapping into an unmistakable divine inebriation on and off stage. UNMATA’s 2007 agenda includes teaching and performing their distinct “Tough Love” style internationally, tri-hosting the first annual Tribal Throwdown in March, and producing the Seventh Annual Blood Moon Regale in Sacramento on Halloween weekend. UNMATA holds the 2007 title “Tribal Fusion Group of the Universe.”

Amy Sigil is owner and director of Hot Pot Studio in Sacramento , CA , home of UNMATA. For the past decade, Amy has been developing, teaching, and performing modern bellydance fusion and her distinct vocabulary of Improvisational Tribal Style. She danced as half of Haruspicy Dancecraft for several years, and then formed the
professional fusion troupe UNMATA in 2003. UNMATA has brought home awards such as Bellydance Troupe of the Year 2004, Bellydance Troupe USA 2004, Ensemble of the Year 2005, and Tribal Fusion Group of the Universe 2007.

On July 28th and 29th Amy Sigil brings UNMATA to Las Vegas for a 2-day workshop and two performances!!!

“UNMATA au naturel” July 28th from 10am to 3pm
Featured 2006 Workshop

This multi-level workshop will outline two tribal fusion combinations emphasizing technique and isolation. The first combination will incorporate the building blocks of UNMATA’s modern bellydance style. The second combination will focus primarily on the Hula Fusion nuance.

Each movement will be outlined within a tribal cueing system so that it may be added to any troupe’s choreography or tribal vocabulary. Amy will describe and drill each individual movement, then fasten them together into an accessible tribal combo that will be practiced in useful group and duet formations.

“Overlaying Isolations, Amy Sigil Style” July 29th from 10am to 3pm

Amy’s Art of Overlay is at the heart of this intermediate to advanced bellydance workshop aimed to add expressive layers and distinction to your dance style. Although controlled simultaneous movement is a complex idea, this
class provides a simple approach certain to bring impressive results.

Beginning with a thorough breakdown of basic isolation technique, Amy will expand such elements as core strength and relaxed tension, and then demonstrate helpful exercises that are necessary to develop an awareness needed to isolate key muscle groups. Then she will teach and drill an isolation combo that incorporates the artistic flare unique to Amy Sigil and UNMATA.
