I was told drinking chlorphyll or wheatgrass would make it easier to connect with the faery realm since it is concentrated vegatation...has this worked for anyone?

What about the Faeries?

What about the Faeries?

Traditionally, Faeries were the first order of
spiritual beings in the world, before humans existed.
They, like all things, have Elemental relative
patterns. They are made up of Elementals, as we are,
as all things on this planet are. But they, like us,
are not just Elementals. The whole is more than the
sum of the parts.

Faery beings, however, often tend strongly
towards one Element. Thus a powerful faery being of
the ocean will be of Water more than any other
Element, but it is not a water elemental. When one of
the huge storms develops, short-lived water Elementals
grow in power,
along with short-lived air Elementals. These large
vessels or Elementals are traditionally ridden by the
faery beings, which exalt in the wild Elemental power.
So there is an exchange, an interconnection, but the
faery beings are not the Elementals.

More significant is the long-standing tradition
of the independence of faery beings: many of them are
not bound by place or elemental qualities, and can
move and interact freely with considerable power. Thus
they are not Nature Spirits or Elementals, though they
may participate for some time in the life-cycle of
certain places (just as we do).

To put it more simply, faery beings have
independent personalities, aims, thoughts, practices,
powers, sports, customs, loves, desires, and use no
computers or cell phones. They are free spirits.

Elementals, however, are utterly and only defined
by elemental patterns beyond which they have no
existence. Nature Spirits are defined by a complex
interaction of power and place, a fusion of many
varied energies of consciousness and vitality.

In Kabbalistic tradition, the Elementals are said
to be the result, the end product, of the
consciousness and energy of universal angelic forces
impinging upon our planet Earth, and thus generating a
response. All living beings on the planet, physical
and spiritual,
partake of that response, being energized and, so to
speak, given definition by the ceaseless Elemental
dance of relationships.

Yule and the fairies

Below is info that I came across while trying to gather information for
another lil' endeavor I am attempting. Sooooo, on to the fairies associated with
Yule. This information came from my book, The Illustrated Encyclopedia of
Fairies by Anna Franklin.

JOLA SVEINAR: A small Icelandic fairy that delivers Christmas gifts.

JOULUPUKKI ('Yule Buck') Finnish fairy that delivers presents at Christmas.
Takes form of a goat or man in a goatskin and horns. At first, it didn't give
presents but demanded offerings, though today he is a more benevolent
creature.

JULBUK ('Yule-Buck') or Jolabukkar: An Icelandic horned fairy, dressed in
furs and part goat. It lives in the woods in summer, the fields in autumn and
gradually inching closer to human habitation as the year progresses, he visits
human houses at Yule. If he's fed well, he'll leave without causing harm but
if not, he'll spill the beer in the cellar and make the stored grain rot.

JULENISSE ('Yule Tomte') Swedish Tomte (**info on Tomte below) who delivers
gifts on Christmas Ever and should be rewarded with special seasonal rice
pudding if he is to behave well during the coming year. In times past, he gave a
secret knock at the door and delivered little gifts called julklapper. He is
the King of the Fairies.
**TOMTE is singular for Tomtra (from tomtgubbe, meaning 'old man of the
house') are Swedish house fairies who take pride in a well kept home, but will
torment lazy housekeepers until they mend their ways. The tomte must be rewarded
with a cozy fire and food, some say he should be fed at 10pm and again at 4am.
He shouldn't be tormented by excessive noise. If annoyed, he will play
tricks like pinching children, waking sleepers and letting the cows out. He'll
take every Thursday off as his day of rest, when he should be given extra food &
butter in his porridge. At Christmas, he should be given a little piece of
grey cloth, some tobacco & a shovel full of clay. The tromtra always wear brown
clothes and green caps. They're accomplished fiddlers and dance in the
moonlight.

FRAU HOLDA is a German Hag fairy who brings the snow in winter by shaking out
her feather bed in the sky. When she washes her veil, rain falls. At Yule,
she rides about in a wagon. She is the Mother of the elves and a patroness of
witches, appearing as a witch herself. Frau Holda is derived from the
Germanic sky Goddess Holda or Hulda, who was also a goddess of fertility, the hearth
and spinning.

BERCHTE aka 'The Bright One', 'White Lady' and Butzenbrecht 'Bringer of
Gifts' and PERCHTA. She's a German fairy with many aspects.
One aspect is a Bogey Woman invoked to threaten naughty children into
good behavior. Also a Hag fairy that carries a distaff and will blind anyone
who spies on her activities, or some say, anyone who gets in her way on Twelfth
Night, will fall into a trance. When awoken from the trance, that person will
be able to foretell how next years crops will turn out.
As Butzenbrecht, busiest between Christmas and New Year's, destroying
any spinning that's unfinished by the time the Old Year's over. In her honor,
houses are decorated with evergreens and food must be left out for her on
Twelfth Night - Epiphany - or she'll cut some from a living human stomach.
However, she does have a good side; cakes are baked in a shape of slippers and she'll
fill these with small presents and treats for good children. The Feast of
Epiphany was originally known as Perchtun Night and she's also know as Perchta
who takes the souls of dead children into her care.
BERCHTE also appears as an omen of death. In spring, she's a lovely
maiden with long flaxen hair and a sprig of Hawthorn flowers in her hand. She
was once a goddess similar to or identical with Holda, a deity of fertility and
marriage; she's sometimes called 'Holdaberta' a combination of the names
Holda & Berchte. In addition, she was almost certainly the chief goddess of the
hearth and home and in Pagan days was honored at Yule in every home with a flat
stone altar on which a fire of fragrant evergreens burned. She was invoked
to foretell the future of everyone present.

BEFANA is an Italian crone fairy who travels around on the Eve of Epiphany
(Jan. 6th) placing gifts and toys in the stocking or shoes of good children and
coal for the naughty ones. Children leave notes for her in the chimney.
After her visit, people will hold parties. Befana dolls are placed in windows
during the festivities and afterwards burned in token of the passing of the old
year and beginning of the new. Befana may be the corruption of Epifania
(Epiphany). The Magi were said to have invited her to journey with them to see the
newborn Christ child, but she was too busy with housework.
She's often depicted with a broom, on which she can fly. She is known
as La Strega (The Witch). She appears in street parades as a masked figure
accompanied by her consort Befano. She is a complex figure, undoubtedly the
survival of an ancient goddess, associated with the Heart, like Berchte, and a
witch, like Hecate.
As a winter hag an image of her is burned during the New Year
celebrations, as are images of the Winter Witch in Germany. If the smoke blows towards
the East, it is an omen that the harvest will be good. If the smoke blows
towards the West, it will be poor. Befana herself sometimes depicted with grain,
fruit, and nuts. The rites of Epiphany signal that the dark time has ended
with the rebirth of the sun at the solstice. They include purification
ceremonies with sprinkled water. Befana's visit to the hearth reaffirms the bond
between the spirit world and the human one at this traditionally dangerous time
of year.
Sometimes, she appears as part of a triad with Rododsa and Maratega to
weave the destinies of humankind, a version of the fates. She is associated
with spinning and her symbol is the woven stocking. Children hang these from
the hearth as the Epiphany for her to fill with gifts.

FATHER CHRISTMAS or Santa Claus is a very special fairy that appears on once
a year. Today he's usually portrayed in a red & white costume, though in the
past this varied. The story that he wears red and white as the result of a
Coca-Cola promotion is an urban myth and it is more likely that, like the red
caps of other fairies, his costume associates him with the Fly Agaric mushroom.
Like the northern shaman, he enters the house via the smoke hole or chimney,
or perhaps, like other fairies and spirits, his method of entrance and egress
is via the hearth.
It's usually claimed that he originated with St. Nicholas, a 4th century
bishop who saved 3 sisters from prostitution by leaving bags of gold in their
stockings, which were hung up to dry. However he has origins that are far
more ancient. It's possible that he devolved from the Scandinavian/Germanic God
Odin or Woden, who rode the skies at Yule wearing a red, bloody, flayed
animal skin, punishing the wicked and rewarding the good. It seems likely that he
passed into English folklore, traceable in the character who appears as master
of ceremonies in the mumming plays, and as the King of Christmas. Perhaps
the figure may be older still, originating in the druidic midwinter festivities
and the Roman Saturnalia. In European legends he rides a goat (Capricorn, the
house in which the winter solstice falls) or a donkey, the latter a
Saturnalian beast sacrificed with a holly club at the solstice.
In Britain, he's Father Christmas, in Germany and Austria Weihnachtman,
and in southern Germany Kris Kringle. In France, he is Pere Noel, who dresses
in red and arrives on a white horse to give out presents the night before
Christmas. He's accompanied by Pere Fouettard ('Father Spanker') who punishes
the naughty children. In Brazil he's called Papa Noel and children leave shoes
out in the street to be filled with sweets and presents. In China, a similar
character is called Dun Che Loa and children leave out stockings for him to
fill. In Switzerland Samichlaus, dressed in a red robe, delivers presents to
boys, while his wife Lucy, wearing a silk dress & cap, takes presents to girls.
Some believe an angel, driving a sleigh drawn by reindeer, help out the cou
ple. In German, he is also known as Pelze Nicol ('Furry Nicholas' from his fur
costume), who is titled Schrimmerlreiter 'Rider of the White Horse' one of the
titles of Odin. This character may be cognate with Belznickel who travels
around at Christmas giving out both gifts and punishment, throwing sweets &
presents in the air and smacking the naughty children as they bend over to
retrieve them. He is also Aschen Klaus or 'Ash Nicholas' as he carries a sack full
of ashes and a bunch of twigs. In some places, St. Nicholas became merged with
his helper Knecht Ruprecht to become Ru Klaus or 'rough Nicholas' from his
shaggy appearance. St. Nicholas is accompanied by various helpers such as Black
Peter, Knecht Ruprecht and the Christkindl who hand out presents. He entered
America with the Dutch Sinterklaas, Anglicized into Santa Claus.

RITUAL: HOW TO MEET A FAERIE

RITUAL: HOW TO MEET A FAERIE Don't take this lightly. The Fey Folk are wild, and their integrity so strong and unusual that you must be careful with them. However, if you approach one correctly, he\she can be an honorable, powerful and delightful friend and ally. If you find you cannot handle the power of this rite, courteously end the visit. If an evil entity arrives by accident, end the visit, either with courtesy or rudeness, whichever is safest and most effective. Do each numbered step before going onto the next. 1. Focus on the darkness of the mind's eye, the darkness that's automatically there when your eyes are closed. 2. See that darkness filled with a glowing green, a Faerie green, a magic glow. 3. Feel that magic, green, Fey glow start swirling around you, bathing you in its beauty, bathing you in its magic. 4. Enjoy drinking in that magic for a minute. 5. Let that Fey power feed you, cleanse you, and give you things you need. Let it work its
magic on you. 6. Into that green mist, call out for a Faerie friend. Don't demand a visit, for we do not control the Fey Folk. Invite with warmth, courtesy, good will and good cheer. 7. Greet and welcome your visitor with dignity and courtesy. Ask his\her name and his\her need of you. If no name is given you, usually you should end the visit. When you meet someone on the physical plane who will not tell you their name, there is usually something awry, right? 8. Never lightly make an agreement with a Faerie. They take commitments seriously. And are tricksters, who often have an unusual view as to what life should be like. You may not want the same goals as they. 9. Visit. Then do the following steps. If you fall asleep, your visit might be happening on an unconscious level so you wouls still need the following steps upon awakening. 10. If you would like, ask your visitor for something you need. 11. Make thanks for the visit, and for any help you were given. At
this point it may be appropriate to give or promise a gift, EG a bit of food and drink left out at night. 12. Perhaps this spirit will become your friend for a while or even a lifetime. You can use this ritual to visit with him\her again. But for now say "Farewell." 13. After doing something like this ritual, one might be in an altered state without realizing it. If you then do something like drive, walk at night along a city street, or cook, you could possibly go through a red light, get mugged, or burn yourself, all because you were off in another world! So, after you finish step 12, do the following two steps: A. Spend some time consciously focusing on the embodied, mundane plane by making your mind concentrate on physical things. B. Then continue this focusing by looking both ways carefully when crossing streets or paying special, conscientious attention to kitchen safety or whatever focus is appropriate to the activity in which you become involved. Use these
two steps until you are well focused onto the embodied plane. You may feel very sharp and alert, so think there is no need for step 13. Please do it anyway. For one thing, alert as you are, you might be alert only to the SPIRIT plane! Take the time to become alert to the physical realm. If you're feeling really spacy or "out there" add body stretches or do some other very physical but safe activity that will focus you onto your own body. by Francesca De Grandis

Faeries - History

Faeries - History

Pagan gods and goddesses, tribal ancestors, and those who worshipped
them all became "fairies" in the traditions of France, Germany, and
the British Isles. The Irish still say fairies live in the pagan
sidh (burial mounds and barrow graves), several hundred of which
still stand in the Irish countryside. The Welsh knew their ancestors
had a matriarchal society. Like the Irish, they called fairies The
Mothers, or The Mother's Blessing; and fairyland was always the Land
of Women.

Fairies came out of their fairy hills at Halloween [Samhain,
Hallow's Eve], Celtic folk said, because the hills themselves were
tomb-wombs of rebirth according to the ancient belief, and Halloween
was only a new name for Samhain, when the dead returned to earth
with the help of the priestesses—who, under Christianity, were newly
described as witches. [I believe Witches were called such before
this, actually.] Respect for the pagan dead endured to a remarkably
late date, even among Christians whose church taught them that the
old deities were devils. Cornish miners refused to make the sign of
the cross when down in a mine, for fear of offending the fairies in
their own subterranean territory by making a gesture that invoked
their enemy.

In the Book of the Dun Cow, the fairy queen described her realm
as "the land of the ever-living, a place where there is neither
death nor sin, nor transgression. We have continual feasts: we
practice every benevolent work without contention. We dwell in a
large Shee (sidh; and hence we are called the people of the Fairy-
Mound."

The pagan after-world was a golden "dream time" of long ago, when
heroes were deified by sacred marriage with the Goddess. The great
God Lugh, father of Ireland's dying savior Cu Chulainn, came "out of
the chambered undergrounds of Tara where dwell the fourth race of
gods who settled Ireland. They are the glorious and golden giants,
Tuatha De Danann. These people of the goddess Dana first used gold
and sliver in an Age of Bronze. They first cleared the land, first
drained the swamps. They built the great temples of stone like the
one they sent to Britain—Stonehenge. [Always keep in mind that
Stonehenge was first a Moon Calendar before it was converted into a
Sun Calendar.] When conquered, they retired to their underground
barrows or Sidhe where they still live today.

Fairy mounds were entrances to the pagan paradise, which might be
located underground, [brings to mind the Hopi kivas] or under water,
or under hills on distant islands across the western sea where the
sun died.

The fairy queen was obviously the ancient fertility-mother, like
Demeter or Ceres. William of Auvergne said in the 13th century she
was called Abundia, or Dame Abonde: "Abundance." She was also called
Diana, Venus, Hecate, Sybil, or Titania—a title of Cretan Rhea as
ruler of the earth-spirits called Titans, predecessors of the
Olympian gods. (See Titania.) [She is referring to other information
in her book.] She had all three personae of the Triple goddess,
including the death-dealing Crone—which is why an Irish title Bean-
Sidhe, "Woman of the Fairy-Mounds, " was corrupted into banshee, the
shrieking demoness whose voice brought death. In the form of the
triple Morrigan, she sang of blood sacrifices related to springtime
renewal of vegetation. A variation on her title was the notorious
Morgan le Fay or Morgan the Fairy, also know as the death
goddess, "Morgue la faye."

The Romance of Lancelot du Lac spoke of the fairy queen in another
incarnation as Lady of the Lake: "The damsel who carried Lancelot to
the lake was a fay [or fae], and in those times all those women were
called fays [or faes] who had to do the enchantments and charms—and
there were many of them then, principally in Great Britain—and knew
the power and virtues of words, of stones, and of herbs." Their
knights were forbidden to speak their names, for fear of betraying
them to Christian persecutors.

Secrecy attended many aspects of the fairy-religion, for the very
reason that it was carried on clandestinely under a dominant
religious system that threatened its practitioners with torture and
death. One of the charges that sent Joan of Arc to the stake was
that she "adored the Fairies and did them reverence."

A legend repeated by the gypsies said if a man found a statue of a
naked fate (fairy) in the ruins of pagan temples or tombs, he should
embrace it with love and eject semen on it. Then, like Pygmalion's
Galatea, the fate would come to life in his dreams and tell her
lover where to find buried treasure, and she would become
his "fortune." He would be happy with her forevermore, provided he
agreed never to set food in a Christian church again as long as he
lived.

This idea of fairy-fortune might be traced all the way back to
ancient customs of matrilineal inheritance and matrilocal marriage,
characteristic both of Bronze Age myths and of fairy tales. The
fairy-tale hero rarely brought a bride to his own home; instead, he
left home to seek his "fortune," which usually turned out to be a
foreign princess won by trial and wedded in her own country, which
the hero afterward helped rule. As in the pre-patriarchal system, a
woman was the "fortune" or "fate" of the young man, words which also
meant "fairy," through such intermediates as Fata, Fay [Fae], Le Fee
or the "fey" one. Fairy and Fate were further related through fear
and fair: Medieval Latin fatare, "to enchant," became Frenchfaer or
feer.

Many believed fairies lived in the deep woods where their sacred
groves had been hidden from priestly interference. Romanians still
speak of the Fata Padourii, Girl of the Woods, a fairy similar to
the Irish banshee. At night she makes eerie sounds that portend
death to the hearer. In Brittany, were there were many groves
dedicated to the Moon-goddess throughout the Middle Ages, [sic]
fairies were sometimes called man-devent, "Moon-goddesses" .

It seems the fairy-religion was practiced secretly thought most of
the Christian era, especially by women, whose Goddess the
patriarchal church kept trying to take away, giving them no
substitute but Mary, who lacked the old Goddess's powers.

Certain French leaders of the Old Religion were described as "great
princesses who, having refused to embrace Christianity. . .were
struck by the curse of God. Hence it is that they are said to be
animated by violent hatred of (Christian) religion and of the
clergy." Sometimes they were called Korrigen, Korrig, or Korr,
perhaps devotees of the Virgin Kore. A Breton lay said: "There are
nine Korrigen, who dance, with flowers in their hair, and robes of
white wool, around the fountain, by the light of the full moon."
They seem to have been old women who used masks or makeup: "Seen at
night, or in the dusk of the evening, their beauty is great; but in
the daylight their eyes appear red, their hair white, and their
faces wrinkled; hence they rarely let themselves be seen by day."

As late as the 17th century it was said there were shrines kept
by "a thousand old women" who taught the rites of Venus to young
maidens, and instructed them in fairy feats like shape-shifting and
raising storms. They were known as fatuae pr fatidicae,"seeresse s,"
or sometimes bonnens filles, "Good girls."

Norwegian, Scottish, and Irish Christians claimed the fairies were
offspring of the fallen angels. Like the non-fallen angels, they
carried off souls of the dead. Any who happened to die at twilight,
the fairies' hour between day and night, would find themselves in
fairyland between life and death, or between heaven and hell. Such
legends reflect ancient views of the after-world as without either
punishment or reward but only a way-station in the karmic cycle,
which is why fairies were like the un-dead---able to emerge from
their tombs at will. As psychopomps, they were the same as Valkyries
or Hindu apsaras, the heavenly nymphs who became peris,, "fairies,"
in Middle-Eastern countries where the Old Religion was also
maintained as a sub-current in patriarchal culture.

Certainly one of the strongest attractions of the fairy-religion was
its permissive view of sexuality, typical of ancient matriarchal
societies, living on in contrast to the harsh anti-sexual attitudes
of orthodoxy. Fairyland was the heaven of sexy angels, as opposed to
the Christian heaven where "bliss" was specifically not sexual, not
even in matrimony (Matthew 22:30). The fairyland called Torelore in
the romance of Aucassin and Nicolette was a home for lovers, as
opposed to the Christian heaven of "old priests, and halt old men
and maimed." The fairy king lay in bed pretending to give birth to a
child [a practice repeated in many ancient cultures.] in the ancient
rite of couvade (see Fatherhood) [another reference to her other
listings in the book]; the queen led an army against their enemies
in a bloodless battle, the combatants pelting each other with
symbolic foods such as apples, eggs, and cheeses. The king said, "
it is nowise our custom to slay each other."

Toward this paradise the Fairy Queen led her lovers on a "broad,
broad road across the lily lea," as Thomas Rhymer's ballad said,
which some called the road to heaven, and others the road to hell: a
prototype of the famous Primrose Path. The Queen herself was
addressed as Queen of Heaven. Sometimes her earthly angels were more
spirit than mortal, like the fairies called Little Wood Women wudu-
maer) in Bavaria, to whom dumplings and other foodstuffs were
offered. Yet most sources admitted that the fairies were real live
women. [A good way to protect to is to turn it to myth.] Prior
wrote, "In Danish ballads fairies are full grown women and not the
diminutive beings of our English tales." Said Andrew Lang. "There
seems little in the characteristics of these fairies of romance to
distinguish them from human beings, except their supernatural
knowledge and power. They are . . .usually of ordinary stature,
indeed not to be recognized as varying from mankind except by their
proceedings. " In other words, they were women practicing heathen
rites.

Ms. Walker also gives us some interesting notations in the margins
of her book. I will be giving these at another time, but I think
everyone would be interested in Book of the Dun Cow. Vegetarians
such as myself might find it a little off-putting, but that should
keep us from discovery. Book of the Dun Cow (Lebar-na-Heera) , is
[sic] so called because the original manuscript was written on
vellum made from the skin of a prized cow: a collection of 11th
century Irish tales and poems, complied by Mailmuri Mac Kelleher.
Also, Aucassin and Nicolette is a [sic] French medieval romance
based on an Arabian love story. [We could use a few of those these
days 10-23-01]. Aucassin's original name was Al-Kasim. One more
notation is as follows: Tasso's list of Fairy-ladies showed them
indistinguishable from wither Goddesses or Witches, for they had
names of both, including the titles of Fata, Maga, Incantatrice, or
wise woman. They were Oriana, She of the Mountain; Silvana or
Silvanella, She of the Wood; Filidea, She Who Loves the Goddess;
Mirinda, the Warrior Woman; Argea, called Queen of Fate; Lucina,
called the Lady of the Lake; Urganda, called the Wise One; tow Fates
of Fays [Faes] named Dragontina and Montana, and Morgana with her
three "daughters," the Morrigan.

~The Fairy of the Four Winds ~

~The Fairy of the Four Winds ~

Have you felt the winds of change all around you in the last few
days? The faeries ask you to pay attention not only to the "true and
literal" winds, but to the winds that blow within in, stirring up
emotions and new directions for your life, perhaps uncovering more
signs and clues to your "Soul journey." If you've been feeling in
limbo or like your in a void, not sure what to do, or not feeling
like doing much of anything... that's ok, all that's changing now...
with the winds of change!

The Fairy of the Four Winds reminds us that messages are coming to us
constantly from the Universe. There are angels and nature spirits
waiting to communicate with us. You must observe nature and the
little happenings all around you. If you listen to the blowing of the
wind, you will hear the voices of the spirit world. There is much
for you to learn from stories at this juncture in your life. These
stories may unfold from within your imagination and they will be
worth writing down. They may come to you from many sources, each with
a circle of light to throw around your life and its highways and
byways. The opportunity to travel may come your way, take it if
you can because this is a time for reaping and sowing by wandering.

~Believe~*!

Lesson:
This is a time to bring together the diverse threads of your life and
weave them into a beautiful theme. Your special soul-story is about
to reveal itself to you. Take the path it indicates regardless of
what other people think.

~From "The Fairy Book" by Claire Nahmad & Danuta Mayer"~

Faerie Superstitions

Faerie Superstitions

It was once a common custom in East Cornwall, when houses were built,
to leave holes in the walls by which these little beings could enter;
to stop them up would drive away good luck. A certain man, living at
Hayle, was in the habit of regularly putting out a saucer of milk for
the small people before going to bed. The small people, he said, only
drank the 'astral' part of the milk, whatever that might be.
Apparently the cats drank the rest, and strangely enough one of them
which belonged to a friend of the writer became very ill as the
result of it

Spriggans guard the vast treasures that are supposed to be buried our
immense carns and in our cliff castles. No matter if the work be
carried on by night or by day, they are sure to punish the rash
person who ventures to dig in hopes of securing them. When he has got
some way down, he finds himself surrounded by hundreds of ugly
beings, in some cases almost as tall as he, who scare the unhappy man
until he loses all control over himself, throws down his tools, and
rushes off as fast as he can possibly go. The fright often makes him
so ill that he has to lie for days in bed. Should he ever summon up
courage to return to the spot, he will find the pit refilled, and no
traces show that the ground has been disturbed.

In Madern (Madron) parish a good woman of discretion hath told be of
certain, that sitting up late in her father's house she often sawe
fairies (neat little creatures) who familiarly talked with her, and
gave away many groats until she betrayed this converse against their
charges and order.

When unmolested, fairies bring good fortune to places they frequent;
but they are spiteful if interfered with, and delight in vexing and
thwarting people who meddle with them. It is well known 'that they
can't abear those whom they can't abide.' Then there were the tales
of persons spirited away to fairyland, to wait upon the small
people's children and perform various little domestic offices, where
the time has passed so pleasantly that they have forgotten all about
their homes and relations, until by doing a forbidden thing they have
incurred their master's anger. They were then punished by being
thrown into a deep sleep, and on awakening found themselves on some
moor close to their native villages. These unhappy creatures never,
after their return, settled down into work, but roamed about
aimlessly doing nothing, hoping and longing one day to be allowed to
go back to the place from whence they had been banished. They had
first put themselves into the fairie's power by eating or drinking
something on the sly, when they had surprised them at on of their
moonlight frolics; or by accepting a gift of fruit from the hands of
one of these little beings.

Fairy Wine Recipe

Fairy Wine Recipe

It is said that if a human drinks from fairy wine, he or she will see
fairies. If a fairy happens to drink from the same goblet, then the
person will see fairies forevermore. The following is a traditional
Welsh recipe for elderberry wine—also known as fairy wine.

7 lbs. elderberries, stripped and stalked
3 gallons boiling water
6 cloves
3 lbs. loaf sugar
1 lb. seedless raisins
1/2 oz. ground ginger
1/2 oz. yeast

Place the berries in a large pot, and cover with the boiling water.
Let the pot rest for twenty-four hours, then mash the fruit and
strain it through a jelly bag. Place the strained fruit back in the
pan, and add the cloves, sugar, raisins, and ginger. Boil this
mixture for one hour, skimming constantly. Let it cool, and add the
yeast. Bottle and cork the mixture, and let it rest for at least
three months.

Happy Full Moon!
Some of you may remember me. I drummed for Maeve several years ago and attended many Full Moon and New Moon events playing percussion and dancing.
My current project, Ahlunama, is going to be posting new tracks every Full Moon at www.myspace.com/ahlunama

Also, "Into the Fairyland" is available to download.
We'll see all in Cali in the near future.
Peace and Love,

real life fairie experiences

just thought i would share something that i find facinating. there was a guy named Robert Kirk who lived between 1644-1697 who was actively involved with fairies. he even kept a journal and the jourmal itself has been recently published. i got the book and was intrigued from beginning to end. apparently, his death was as facinating as his life as he never actually 'died' but some say he went to live with the faires. below is a link that provides a little more info on the subject:

Since there are no posts in the tribe I thought I would share this info about fairies and other fae beings:

Types of Fairies Explained
(In alphabetical order and generically described)
Asrais - Are small, delicate, female fairies. They cannot be exposed to sunlight or captured; else they shall melt away into a pool of water.

Banshee - "Woman Fairy"; a spirit attached to certain families. When a member's death approaches, the family will hear the banshee crying. Not always terrifying.

Bogles - Generally evil-natured Goblins although they are more disposed to do harm to liars and murderers.

Brownies - Have traditionally attached themselves to humans and human households. Traditionally friendly and genuinely helpful.

Dwarfs - Are stocky, short and powerful. They mature at three years old and are grey and bearded by the age of seven. It is said they cannot appear in the light of day for to do so would turn them to stone. However, there are potions and spells that empower them to endure sunlight.

Dryads - They ae spirits that dwell in the trees, preferably Oaks. The Druids turned to them for inspiration.

Elves - Another name by which trooping fairies in are known. They can be divided into the Seelie and Unseelie Courts.

Fir Darrig - (Fear deang) Are practical jokers of a gruesome nature. They can assume any visage they wish.

Gnomes - Earth Elementals. They live underground and guard the treasures of the Earth. Gnomes are wonderful metal workers, especially of swords and breastplates

Goblins - Is the name used for an uglier species of fairy. They are small and malicious, and usually band together as they have lost their abilities to operate independently. Usually they are controlled by a Mage for evil doings.

Gwragedd Annwn - (Gwageth anoon) Are traditionally Welsh water fairies, who occasionally take human men for husbands.

Gwyllion - Are Scottish water fairy. They are mostly seen as a hairy men or hideous female spirits who waylay and mislead travelers by night on the mountain roads. Mountain fairies like to sit on rocks on either side of a mountain path and silently watch passerby's.

Hobgoblins - Originally a general name for small, grotesque but friendly brownie-type creatures.

Knockers (Buccas) - Mine spirits who are friendly to miners. They knock where rich ore can be found.

Leprechauns - Are sly and tricky and can disappear in the blink of an eye. They are particularly fond of, and active on, Saint Patrick's day, but any day is good for them.

Mer-People- Mermaids; they dwell in the water, but they are human from the waist up and have a tail of a fish. They are irresistible singers who sometimes lure fishermen to their deaths. Also called the Murdhuacha (muroo-cha) or Merrows.

Pixies - Oft times take the form of hedgehogs. They are mischievous fairies who enjoy playing practical jokes on humans and other fay folk. They also love to steal horses to ride.

Phouka - Can appear in various animal forms and are considered to be dangerous.

Redcap - is one of the most evil of the old Border Goblins. He lives in old ruined towers and castles, particularly those with a history of wickedness. He re-dyes his cap in human blood.

Shefro - Male fairies who wear green coats and red caps.

Sídhee (shee) - The name for fairies and their subterranean dwellings. A barrow or hillock which has a door to a beautiful underground realm of the Tuatha or fairies.

Sluagh - The Host of the Unforgiven Dead, or pagan ancestors. The most formidable of the Highland fairies.

Spriggans - Are fabled to be ugly, grotesque and small in their natural state, but can inflate themselves to gigantic proportions. Spriggans are an infamous band of villains, skilled thieves, thoroughly destructive and often dangerous. They are capable of robbing human houses, kidnapping children (and leaving a repulsive baby Spriggan in exhange).

Trolls - Have an aversion to daylight. They are frequently observed performing a curious lop-sided dance called 'Henking'.

Trows - Similiar to the Trolls and like them, have an aversion to daylight. They are frequently observed performing a curious lop-sided dance called 'Henking'.

Urisk - Is a solitary fairy who haunts lonely pools. He will often seek out human company but his peculiar appearance terrifies those he approaches

Water Fairies - Are the providers of food, nourishers of crops and takers of lives. They combine beauty with treachery and lethality. They can be friend or foe.
