I've come up with a design that I haven't found on the internet. I've produced a prototype, but don't have any money to mass manufacture. Any suggestions?
It's a men's lingerie item.
Thanks,

Re: Have a design idea for men's underwear...what's my next step?
Wed, August 10, 2005 - 10:29 AMidentify the target market -- what kind of men is this going to appeal to
make some up, like at least ten or twenty
find people in the target market to wear them and give you feedback
(not just your friends or random people)
be very thorough in how you gather the feedback, have stuff written down, etc
then refine the design based on the feedback
do another round of user testing, and get even more in depth feedback
if you are getting very positive feedback, and you have it all written and documented, then you either try to sell the design, or produce yourself, or partner, etc etc. the important thing is you aren't walking in to the meeting with just an idea and one prototype.
so thats a typical path
but i have to warn you -- there's no such thing as mens lingerie
in general men don't really obsess over their underwear like women do
boxers or briefs is usually as far as it goes
so you'd have to be satisfying some kind of niche, and you'd have to make sure that there was really a demand in that niche, and a way to sell the product, etc etc

Re: Have a design idea for men's underwear...what's my next step?
Wed, August 10, 2005 - 12:25 PMThat's interesting. It seems a typical man will judge a woman by the attire she wears, but he doesn't seem to give a care what she thinks of what attire he's wearing. Probably because women tend to equate basics with masculinity anyway, so there's no incentive to change. Just a theory.

Re: Have a design idea for men's underwear...what's my next step?
Thu, September 1, 2005 - 6:52 AMThank you so much for your response. A good reminder to me that there's a lot more to it.
From what I see, men's lingerie is making a move to mainstream. I'm seeing thong underwear in large dept. stores, and they move fast. I still haven't been able to find the size I want, which is a medium. They seem to move quickly. I'm just watching.
I know there's a lot of men's lingerie online, so that would be my market.
The design I have would appeal to a small niche of the general population, but large enough for me.

Men's underwear - hygienic, healthy and user friendly
Thu, August 11, 2005 - 5:59 AMI also have a new design for men's underwear. It is more hygienic and healthy than the ones we usually see. I was wondering if it would sell and would appreciate fellow member's opinions. I can show a few pictures to show how it works. If you are interested in taking a look and offer your insights, please email me at this address and I will send the pictures. Thanks
