Imagination Revival Project

public - created 07/30/06
Once upon our time, in the consumer kingdom of Quickfix, there was a sinister ruler called Inadequacy.
Equipped with all the power of psychological manipulation that modern technology offers, Inadequacy slowly infiltrated the minds of the people and they forgot how magical they were on their own. . .so they went shopping.
They filled the emptiness that Inadequacy had carved out in their souls with everything they were convinced would work.
Inadequacy’s drones were really good at taking things from the Earth and sucking out the magic by processing, packaging. . .until everyone became very sleepy and forgot about all the miraculous stuff that they were made out of. . .until. . .
the good ruler Imagination, who had been put to sleep by Inadequacy with a mysterious potion called Greed, suddenly awoke.
This awakening was very special because it didn’t happen on top of a mountain in a castle, it happened inside the people and they quickly became excited about the colours and shapes that had been building up inside of them all along- they got even more excited when they found out that they could keep drawing on creative juices and never run out. . .in fact, the more they used, the more there was!

(The moral of this story is:)

Images are more than meets the eye.
As consumer marketing players know well, images are tools of connection.
In the world of products and consumers, artists are used by those profiting to build momentum for things they want so sell us.
It’s too bad that we don’t get to know about how most of the stuff that we take into our lives was made- usually because we’re consuming so many of these products every day that there’s no way we could keep track of it all.
The thing is, the corporations that are making the crappy stuff they're selling usually don’t want us to know how their it was made because we might not buy it if we did (let alone take it into our bodies!).
One key advantage that corporations have over consumers is that, because we only react to the circumstances of the society we find ourselves in, we don’t realize how different this way of living is from everything our species has ever known. . . our bodies (that are still very biologically rooted to naturally connected circumstances) are so confused!
How are we supposed to connect with our own life cycle when we’re not connected to the life cycles of the things we’re made of and surround ourselves by?
So, we try to feed ourselves with lots of things to try and numb our confusion- products and conveniences that we first thought would improve the quality of our lives but have since replaced our sense of worth, and are now causing us all to suffer the consequences of over-consumption.

Thankfully, the wisdom of our ancestors, who healed by cultivating their connection to the creative instinct, is still deeply rooted in us.
This instinct, from which our physical bodies were borne and will one day return, carries the potent healing powers of natural cycles - medicine that reaches down to the root of our imbalance and gently but powerfully nurtures the particular growth that each of us needs.
The healing that my creative practice has offered me has been fun, free and has produced playful side-effects (also called art)! Because I'm so passionate about this kind of healing, I dedicate my life to awakening Imagination in myself and others by connecting us through images created by artists who aren't working for corporate agendas. Many artists think they have to sell out to do what hey love but I think we can create better alternatives together: the "IMAGINATION REVIVAL PROJECT" lives to push corporate (agenda) art out of the spotlight and make room for fresh works by independent artists (I am going to start calling heARTists who can offer unique un-constrained art:iculations of the world we live in.
Here's, basically, how it works:
-Designs are submitted by heARTists either in person, by mail or as posted to this gallery.
-I heat press the work onto durable canvas with durable inks and transfer paper (to produce very high quality artfabric) and stitch one big of each on to a big magical blanket.
-I bring the blanket around to events (as display) and sell smaller versions of the works that their lovers can sew onto their clothes, bags etc.
The proceeds go towards to the development of Harmony Home, a self-sustaining wilderness creative therapy centre that I've been dreaming about cocreating with other heArtists for the past few years and have recently dedicated to realizing.
Residents are all inspired to prepare for the future, are really aware about what we face in the next decade and are channelling that inspiration into action by learning how to grow enough food to have a big supply when crunchtime comes. learning a lot about wildcrafting and toolmaking too.
As for IRP: I love this method of sharing art cause it supports us to be interactive with the art as well as our clothing (style/culture) while helping to grow a sustainable solutions. I'm also really into teaching different (old skool) handsewing techniques and getting together with other creatures to share time this way.
There are examples of works featured on the magic blanket in this gallery.
Please contact me if you'd LOVE to pARTicipate!

Summary of project purpose:
To promote and support independent artists.
To expose our true culture (and stop letting corporations create it for us)
To cultivate loving, creative, interactive relationships with our clothing.
To facilitate the enhancement of personal style.
To teach the old time tradition of handstitching and stitching circles.
To develop sustainable solutions for the future.
To HAVE FUN!!
