So I've been invited to this big deal event which is being organized by some non-tribal belly dancers. I will be the only or one of very few Tribal Style dancers at the 5-day event. Part of the event is a hafla and I've been told to bring my galbeya and hip-scarf. I asked if I could wear my Tribal gear and the reply was no, it's not a costume thing, it should be a galbeya/caftan and hip scarf. I feel so ignorant but I have to ask -- At is a galbeya/caftan standard Tribal gear? I KNOW a fake-coin hip scarf isn't. What do you all wear to haflas?
P.S. Part of the event is an award ceremony and I've been nominated! You can read more about that in my blog. Vote for Sharon!
But more important, help me figure out WHAT to wear to this hafla!

Re: Galbeya? [cross post]
Sat, March 14, 2009 - 6:09 AMThat's interesting, a galibeya (sp!) is just a loose caftan, some people use them for coverups. Sounds like the point is to cover up, not to wear a costume - tribal dancer or no. As far as I've seen dancers of any style wear these -
Also, it might be that their hafla is actually a hafla (party) NOT a show, which could explain their point about not wearing a costume.
