I've noticed a few comments and quotes here and there on several Tribal tribes from Whedon's shows, movies, graphic novels and books. It got me to thinking that there seems to be a nifty cross-over.
So, how many of us swear allegiance to "Joss Is Boss" or are Browncoats? [g]
I'll start:
Yup. Have all seasons of Angel, Buffy, FireFly. Have the movie. Saw the movie twice in the theater (I have a kid that doesn't go to movies, so that's a big deal ;o). Have the Serenity books. Have several volumes of Buffy/Angel companions. Did a cake for a friend of mine's baby shower with the words "Joss wishes you and your baby [Serenity Logo]".
I'm a member of Whedonesque.
And I'm not as into it as some of my friends are... [shakes head]
So, there ya go. Another addiction of mine LOL!
Andrea. :)

Re: Informal Survey: How many of us are into Joss Whedon's creations? (FireFly, Angel, Buffy, Serenity...)
Thu, August 16, 2007 - 9:29 AMI own Firefly. Unfortunately, no Serenity yet, but at least I've seen it! I couldn't see it in the theater because I couldn't get away from The Small (what my daughter was called at the time). I saw a beautiful replica of Kaylee's dress at the local con in the costume contest. Everyone we knew had Firefly character names slapped on them. Apparently I've been voted River.
However, I do have to say, I never really got into Buffy. Angel was cute, but I never really watched that either.

Thu, August 16, 2007 - 9:55 AMYou can't stop the signal!!
:-)
loved Buffy, but Firefly and then Serenity are my favorites. Seeing Serenity opening weekend in a theater filled with adoring fans, laughing and gasping and crying at all the right moments--that was the most intense movie-going experience of my life. *Man*, that was fun!!
Joss Whedon truly is my master now....
:-)
(and I started watching Firefly the very first night it was on--was hooked from episode one...which really wasn't episode one....but you fans of Firefly know what I'm talkin' about)
;-) -

Re: Informal Survey: How many of us are into Joss Whedon's creations? (FireFly, Angel, Buffy, Serenity...)
Thu, August 16, 2007 - 2:10 PMOhhh, I have that t-shirt..."Joss Whedon Is My Master Now" LOL!
FireFly and Serenity definitely rock my world... I don't know who I love best... the women or the men [g]. Loved Buffy. Then I got stuck on Angel. At first I couldn't really get into Buffy/Angel, but I was introduced to it by the 4th season and it had definitely caught its stride. Sucked in, I was. ;o) BIG Spike fan.
I'm in the know about that first episode. Mal was too worrisome for the t.v. dudes in the pilot. They were worried we wouldn't come back for more. Guess they just don't understand us... We crave our regular hit of Joss.
Brie, my bestest bud, noticed that the "Slow" track on Beats Antique sounds like the Reavers are coming in for a quick snack. ;o)
Have you heard The Bedlam Bards "On the Drift" album? It's shiny!

never even heard of them! I'll keep my ears open...... :-)
I feel the need for a Serenity hit comin' on.........
;-)
(big Spike fan here, too. :-) Broke my heart the way Buffy treated him--loved his redemption in the finale of the show....) -

Re: Informal Survey: How many of us are into Joss Whedon's creations? (FireFly, Angel, Buffy, Serenity...)
Thu, August 16, 2007 - 4:19 PMMmm...Spike...and to think he wasn't originally going to have an accent. The actor just threw it in last minute at the audition. You know, one of those make it up as you go along sorts of things. He was the only character in Buffy that I REALLY liked...

Re: Informal Survey: How many of us are into Joss Whedon's creations? (FireFly, Angel, Buffy, Serenity...)
Thu, August 16, 2007 - 4:20 PMI'll have to listen to Antique Beats again...I'd never thought about it that way. I know what's going in my car tomorrow (since it's the only place I really LISTEN to the music and don't really just have it as background noise).

Re: Informal Survey: How many of us are into Joss Whedon's creations? (FireFly, Angel, Buffy, Serenity...)
Thu, August 16, 2007 - 10:15 AMBrowncoat here too. I watched Buffy through when she went to college but lost interest after that. Angel was pretty good. Firefly was his best work I think. Excellent movie too.

Re: Informal Survey: How many of us are into Joss Whedon's creations? (FireFly, Angel, Buffy, Serenity...)
Thu, August 16, 2007 - 11:05 AMI have it all on DVD...from Buffy movie to Serenity movie. All seasons of Buffy, Angel, Firefly. I am not one for the novels...read Laurell K Hamilton, Jim Butcher, and Kim Harrison instead. I love Buffy and Philosophy, but then I majored in Philosophy so there you go! Hugs to all my fellow fans, April -

Re: Informal Survey: How many of us are into Joss Whedon's creations? (FireFly, Angel, Buffy, Serenity...)
Thu, August 16, 2007 - 2:15 PMGroovy! Didn't read the fan-fic. Not into it. I enjoy the visually sophisticated campanion books they put out with the scripts to the shows.
Hamilton, Butcher and Harrison. Oh Yeah! Really enjoyed Hamilton's last one. (because it's the latest one to come out in trio, more than likely.) She got another one coming out about the faery in the fall, the day before my birthday. Very cool.
And I was going to get a Master in philosophy... Didn't finish. But it was a lack of funds and moving to Texas that did that. LOVE philosophy. Right now, I'm really into Ken Wilbur's Integral models (which can be called psychology, but it's really philosophy IMO).
I knew I was in the right crowd! LOL

Re: Informal Survey: How many of us are into Joss Whedon's creations? (FireFly, Angel, Buffy, Serenity...)
Thu, August 16, 2007 - 10:03 PMThat's cool Andrea...and I had instructor once say "Philosophy is the mother of all majors." Deffinatly pick up Buffy and Philosophy if you can had send me messages, I have no one to discuss those writings with! Love LKH, can't wait for new fairy book.
Also, once upon a time a bought the Buffy Lexicon Dictionary and have since lent it away. It is something for Buffy/Angel fans to check out. Must make a note to look for it... -

Fri, August 17, 2007 - 10:12 AMHmmm... Now that you mention it, I think my lovely dance partner has "Buffy & Philosophy"... not sure. Will have to get the "Buffy Lexicon Dictionary". Guess I'll have to go over to Amazon and Wish List them! [g] Thanks for the tips!
Will do on messaging you re: the B&P book. :)

Re: Informal Survey: How many of us are into Joss Whedon's creations? (FireFly, Angel, Buffy, Serenity...)
Thu, August 16, 2007 - 3:33 PM::waves:: Browncoat here!
I have two copies of "Firefly;" one to keep and one to recruit. ;) Also have a copy of "Serenity."
And, of course, I have a copy of "On the Drift" as I'm also a Bedhead (Bedlam Bards fan). I watched the Bedlam Bards start. Cedric the Fiddler is a personal friend of mine, as is his wife Joyce. They are about to be at DragonCon in Atlanta on Labor Day weekend. If you're in the area, and can get in, they will be happy to sign a copy for you. :)
I also like Buffy and Angel, just Firefly/Serenity really grabbed me.
I also read Neil Gaiman, Kimberly Harrison, L. K. Hamilton, Charles de Lint, among other fantasy and science fiction authors.
And completely off topic, go see "Stardust" in the theatre. It's worth the price! Even took my 5 and 3 year old daughters, who sat through the whole movie. It is truly wonderful. -
-
Re: Informal Survey: How many of us are into Joss Whedon's creations? (FireFly, Angel, Buffy, Serenity...)
Thu, August 16, 2007 - 4:10 PMGaiman and de Lint are definitely on my shelves!
Terry Pratchett, Simon Green and Tanya Huff (Blood Line series), as well as Garth Nix and Jasper Fforde are also sitting next to one another.
Mmmm... Stardust... Must go! We've been waiting since the first little murmurings on Ain't It Cool News.
Looking forward to the Golden Compass.
As for off-topic... not really IMO. I love knowing other things about the bellies in my life! That's what Tribal's all about, yeah? :)

Re: Informal Survey: How many of us are into Joss Whedon's creations? (FireFly, Angel, Buffy, Serenity...)
Thu, August 16, 2007 - 4:30 PM::nodding:: "The Golden Compass" and "The Spiderwick Chronicles" both look good.
Reading your reply I had a fantastic image pop into my head: a tribal dancer drawn by Charles Vess. ::sigh:: ::goosebumps::
If you don't know his work, he illustrated "Stardust" when it first came out as a graphic novel. He's done many illustrations of Charles de Lint's work, too. I love his work. Some close friends of mine bought "The Company of Cats" by Charles de Lint, illustrated by Charles Vess for me and had both of them sign it to me as a gift. It is one of my treasures. :)
I really hope I got the title of the book right. Can I blame it on my kids if I don't? ;) -
-
Re: Informal Survey: How many of us are into Joss Whedon's creations? (FireFly, Angel, Buffy, Serenity...)
Fri, August 17, 2007 - 10:10 AMWe have the "Stardust" illustrated book in a slip cover... And I have "The Company of Cats" as well. (I think that's the right title...)
The Spiderwick Chronicles is coming out in movie version?? Oh, wait. I think my dh mentioned that. He's the one who reads Ain't It Cool News...
I have a first edition copy of Brian Froud and Charles de Lint's "The Wild Wood". It is definitely one of my treasures... I have a signed copy of "The Onion Girl".

Re: Informal Survey: How many of us are into Joss Whedon's creations? (FireFly, Angel, Buffy, Serenity...)
Fri, August 17, 2007 - 3:45 PM"The Spiderwick Chronicles" is one of the trailers for "Stardust," at least in Temple. I also saw the trailer when we saw "POTC At World's End" in Seattle in June.
Froud is fantastic, too!

Thu, August 16, 2007 - 7:20 PMHah! I clicked on this as my SO and I are spending the evening sitting around the living room rewatching Firefly episodes!
I'm also lucky enough to have a boyfriend who knit me (and several friends of ours) Jayne hats. -

Fri, August 17, 2007 - 10:07 AMROTFLMAO!

Fri, August 17, 2007 - 8:47 AMGuilty as charged. I'm a Buffy addict. The musical just went through town and I just had to go.
-
Re: Informal Survey: How many of us are into Joss Whedon's creations? (FireFly, Angel, Buffy, Serenity...)
Fri, August 17, 2007 - 8:57 AMI watched the first two seasons of Buffy and then lost interest. I never got into Angel.
However, I LOVE Firefly - have the series on DVD and watch it regularly - ditto with Serenity. I'm sad that they had to cram an entire second season into two hours or less (hell the pilot episode is longer than the movie!) But I still love it. I actually like watching the pilot back to back with Serenity cuz they flow a bit better than if you watch the whole first season and then the movie.
*fingers crossed for a third season (technically second I guess), even though it's unlikely*

Fri, August 17, 2007 - 1:37 PMI'm a bit of a Browncoat myself, and I recruit others as actively as I can.
Never watched Buffy or Angel though. -

Re: Informal Survey: How many of us are into Joss Whedon's creations? (FireFly, Angel, Buffy, Serenity...)
Mon, August 20, 2007 - 3:09 PMFairly new Browncoat here! I haven't seen much of Buffy or Angel but adore Firefly and Serenity. We recently watched all the episodes on DVD and the movie. Then I caught several of them on the Sci Fi Channel last week and am in full geek out mode over them. -
-
Re: Informal Survey: How many of us are into Joss Whedon's creations? (FireFly, Angel, Buffy, Serenity...)
Mon, August 20, 2007 - 3:19 PMOh darlin', I have all of the seasons of Buffy and Angel on DVD so you can borrow them if you wish. :-)
-
-
Yeah, Browncoats!
Tue, October 2, 2007 - 3:19 PMI was looking for other Browncoats and came across this thread.
Yeah, more Browncoats! I'm in the Seattle area and kinda lonely! The nearest active bunch of us is in Vancouver, BC.
When the series first showed on TV, I think I was hooked during the opening credits! The music was perfect and everything after that was pure gravy.
I just finished watching all the extras on the newest DVD set and am in the process of writing up new characters for the 'Verse in preparation for writing short stories in the future. There's some good stuff at www.spacewesterns.com/ already. Our ship, Tempest Ad Narim is developing nicely, with a crew of eight already.
Can't stop the Signal!
