Let's wake up this tribe...

My newest blog is about the way I see yoga in my own history. people.tribe.net/lunataylor

I like to think of yoga as a key to connecting with "spirit" in whatever that means at the moment.

    Point taken Luna ;-)

I loved your blog. Yoga is always there, whether we're aware of it or not. Once we discover what yoga is, we start to see the framework of existence. Not a solid prefab structure, but the fluid creation of our experience and how it connects and relates to everything around us. Looking back, we can see how everything; every breath, thought, word, choice has created our experience and directed where we are this very moment. Yoga is a science. There are specific techniques and practices for strengthening, healing and aligning the body, mind and spirt. It's important to understand and be consistent with the practices to really benefit. The real power of yoga is when it starts to make sense to you based on your own personal life, experiences and relationships.

Yeah! Well, actually, it always made sense. You know, you hear people say "everything is connected" and so on, and you're like... well duh! But for me it has been finding out that I'm not actually holding the reins to entire universes of my own existence. And then realizing that "I" could be the puppetmaster of sorts if I start connecting with all this tissue shit "I'm" trapped in. Trapped isn't the right word always of course, but sort of. I can't do everything I want to do (i.e. fly into outer space) because I'm trapped where fullest actualization seems to be reality of the flesh and blood.

I've been thinking a lot about the concept of "body" as a machine. My entire goal for yoga has become the desire to be in actual, recognizable communication with all parts of my body.

I went to Santa Monica Powere Yoga on Friday. It is a donation-based studio not far from campus. There were tons of people in the room and there was music and candles and sage. I reached a yoga plateau--I felt my body sweat more than I have ever sweat in my life and my mind and breath were the most connected yet. I stretched further and deeper than ever and I relaxed and breathed into the sweet pain. When it was over I had a borderline-hallucinogenic, meditative shavasana and then I cried harder and more purely than I had in a long time. I love when yoga makes me cry. I'm not cryng about anything specific and it isn't a sad cry. I felt like I was crying because I had a beauty-overload. You know when you just feel filled with the beauty of living and see all the beauty in life.

Wow! Thanks for sharing your experiences. It makes me excited because I know exactly what you both mean. What could be more facinating than our own bodies, minds and beyond. I feel like a scientist and life is my lab. I'm constantly experimenting and exploring.
There is nothing better than sweating until you feel like you're melting and crying for the joy and beauty of the moment.
