I am pleased to pass on this oral tradition. I frequently hear the voice of my teacher Larry Schultz, rumbling low in the back of my skull. When I'm walking down the street, MULA BANDHA, and my posture straightens and I become the humble lioness. Before I lift something heavy, a quiet reminder, MULA BANDHA, and I can move the heaviest object with herculean ease. I've got to peeeeee and there's no where to go, MULA BANDHA, and I can make it to the next rest stop. I kick into a handstand or balance on my arms, MULA BANDHA, and time, space and gravity disappear. So, Amy, I'm pleased to have a small presence within your head. I hope my voice will amuse you as well as give you strength.

For those of you saying, "What the Hell is MULA BANDHA?" Mula means root and Bandha means lock. You engage the Mula Bandha by gently lifting up the pelvic floor from the perinium and drawing in and up on the lower abdominals (below the navel). It can be a gentle contraction, more like a sense of awareness and stability in the pelvic muscles or it can be a stronger engagement for heavy lifting or defying gravity. Mula Bandha helps stabilize the pelvis and supports the back, it also gets you in touch with your root and the Kundalini energy that resides at the base of the spine. You can strengthen your Mula Bandha with Keigal exercises. Gaining control of your pelvic muscles not only helps with bladder control, posture and strength, but can help to develop, maintain and control sexual energy.

I couldn't make it to 6 am yoga this morning. Probably because late last night I started drinking that old bottle of cheap tequila that's been sitting on the fridge for months and watching Mulholland Drive. Not necessarily a good combination for getting up early!!!! Heh.

At work today, I'm going to finger M-U-L-A B-A-N-D-H-A into the dust on my desk and try to keep a yoga state of mind throughout the day. I can feel my angry lower back and hips nodding their heads in approval....

It is nice having those suddle reminders in the back of my mind. Weather it is Amy saying, "step and right-counter clock wise rib to the front, step left , ect. Which hepls keep my dance technique strong in my mind and helps me to remember the coreograghy. Or Lea saying, "MULABANDA." They are all wonderful voices that I welcome in my head on a regular basis.

Ahhh! All those amazing voices in our heads. We all have them. Some serve us and others don't. The trick is figuring out the difference. I think you're right Shelly, it all gets back to being present. Then it's easier to filter out the voices that aren't helping us right now, in the moment.
