Salutations dahlin's
I want to get a feel for the communities interest in this topic. I've been asked to consider writting an article about what I am referring to as "the ATS Wars"... or to be more technical, who is ATS and who isn't... or to get right to the point... are tribal dancers outside the FCBD-ATS box ATS?, or a rose by another name?
First and foremost I want to know... Is this important to you?
If not, I ask that you respond with "this means nothing to me" or something along those lines. I want to see how realivant the topic is to the community as a whole, as well as to the individual.
Who out there uses the term ATS to describe their troupe, but does not stick strictly to the FCBD-ATS formate?
Have you experienced anyone being judgemental to you using the term ATS? Would you share your story?
...and if this topic matters to you, I would like to invite you to share your defences/arguement/references for ATS being either an umbrella term, or a clearly definded and limited set of moves & rules.
I have posted this here as well, cause I want to know what Kate & Shannon think =)

Re: ATS Wars
Wed, October 24, 2007 - 8:34 AMYou know I love you dearly, but this means little or nothing to me. I've tried to care, but I can't. Hip bump, hip pop....rib circle, chest circle....I'm on the "rose is a rose" side of the fence. -

Re: ATS Wars
Wed, October 24, 2007 - 9:17 AMThat's just the input I am after. I have no desire to make an issue out of a non-issue. I've heard through the grapevine that this is a hot topic... but so far, I have posted this on a few of the busiest boards and (though it's only been a few hours), I've gotten little to no responce. I think this is a puffer-fish arguement (looks bigger than it really is).
Thanks for your 2c. -

Re: ATS Wars
Wed, October 24, 2007 - 12:26 PMNo, I think it is a big issue. But I think for those of us that this actually affects, commenting publicly is potentially bad for business and professional relations.

Re: ATS Wars
Wed, October 24, 2007 - 10:54 AMActually it was a very hot topic awhile back. I think it's just a beaten and flogged dead horse and everyone has taken their own positions on it, made up their minds and leaving it alone
I'm in the "it means nothing" camp. No matter what some people want to make of it and try to label.. the dancers themselves will make up their own mind.
I am who I am and dance what I dance and it makes me happy : D -

This topic took off in a big way in the Biz of Belly Dance. Here is the link, the posts are thought provoking. I have a lot of new leads to research.
bellydancebiz.tribe.net/thread...ca434e2
I want to thank you all for taking the time to share how you feel about this... even voicing your concerns about what it could mean to share your feelings publicly. I completely understand. I was nervous about the reactions I would get from posting the topic myself, but in the end, it was a really peaceful discusion.

Re: ATS Wars
Tue, October 30, 2007 - 4:24 PMI read the WHOLE thread months ago and thought..."waste of my time to comment."
I think too many tribal dancers are taking it WAY too personally.
When I do Carolena's ATS repertoire...I say that I am doing ATS.
When I do things outside of her repertoire...I say I am doing Tribal Fusion or Tribal Improv Bellydance.
So when I describe my style...I say all of that plus, Flamenco, Ballroom, Jazz and now Odissi.
Ultimately, I'm going to do what I want and call it what I want and no one can stop me! HAHAHA
I too think that horse has been beat beyond death. Let's just dance or "get some shoes"! HAHA! :)
