I had a strange dream about the gig I'm playing tomorrow night.
In it, I arrived at the Luggage Store Gallery ready to set up my gear only to find that Ferrara, who's sharing the bill with me, and I were wearing almost the same outfit. It was really awkward, and ultimately I decided to run home and change into something else. The way home was blocked with all kinds of obstacles, like bramble bushes overgrowing the road and animals lying down in it. I woke up before I could get back to the gallery and perform.
The weird part is that neither one of us would ever have worn these outfits in real life. (Ferrara can correct me if I'm wrong). Ferrara had on a jumpsuit made of turquoise silk embroidered with gold thread. Mine was the same color, but it was more of a flight suit, and it didn't have any embroidery.
So I guess we're forewarned now and hopefully we won't be dressed alike tomorrow night.

Re: Weird gig dream
Thu, March 16, 2006 - 5:19 AMhave a great gig. I wish I could make it but I'm taking my father to see Dave Bruebeck who was a seminal musical influence in both of our lives.
break a leg. how's the new album coming along, by the way? -

Album progress

The new album is about two-thirds done. 5 songs are complete:
Ultralite
Blood With Salt
How Now Is Soon
Suspension
Not Made of Stone
and 2 more are complete except for piano parts:
The Jaguar
The Great Highway
Those piano parts will be added, and 3 new songs recorded:
Test Pilot's Lament
Death and the Maiden
Save a Prayer (Duran Duran cover)
at a final recording session this summer. The album will be mixed and mastered at that session too. Then I'll spend the rest of the year preparing it for release in early 2007: album artwork, liner notes, getting the CD manufactured, arranging digital distro, figuring out who will do the radio promotion, and all those things.
The gig went really well, by the way. And Ferrara and I did not show up wearing the same outfit. :) -

Re: Album progress
Mon, August 21, 2006 - 6:29 AMI had another weird gig dream last night.
I think this one is pretty standard for musicians, where you have a gig and you're running late and having a hard time getting there. This one was an orchestral gig in Santa Cruz. In the dream I'd never played for this conductor before, and although the part wasn't difficult or important, I wanted to make a good first impression.
There was a scene where I couldn't get my car backed out of a parking lot, because there were hunks of concrete and potholes and patches of dirt in the way. Then there was a scene where all I had was a bike, and I was getting more and more late, and trying to figure out how I was going to get to Santa Cruz. I was thinking of taking Skyline Blvd. and then a series of nature trails.
That's all I remember (except for a couple of interludes where I was visiting Phillip Greenlief, who's a member of this tribe). I don't think I ever actually got to the gig.

Just to keep Rick and everybody else apprised, I just confirmed session dates in January 2007 in Eugene with Jeff Davis at his studio.
The darling men of the Company will be joining me there either in person or as MIDI files. :)
Hopefully, the album will be finished and mixed when we're done. If not, I'll reserve another block of time soon after that for mixing, just me and Jeff.

Thu, March 16, 2006 - 10:31 PM...hope your show went well. And if you do show up and another performer is wearing the same outfit, just smile big and pretend that you planned it. :-)
See you soon.

Mon, September 25, 2006 - 6:28 AMGlad to hear of your impending recording plans Polly (I've been a little tribe deprived lately and just read this post early in the morning-----ahhhhh insomnia! lol)
Jeff's studio is so cool and what a wonderful engineer and producer. I'm suprprised more people in the Pacific Northwest havent' discovered this amazing place to record.
