We had our last show yesterday, and it's all over now except for the paperwork. Thanks to everyone who came to see the show, it was great to see you there!

I'll be looking into options for recording the music, we'll definitely have a HafenGeist CD at some point.

you guys were wonderful, the music was creative and well played; the dancing and performances were very professional If you havent had a chance to go to the show be sure to catch the final few shows you will be glad you did :-)

Fringetastic!

10pm is a tough opening night slot, but 30+ rare souls took a chance on a gothic ballet and got what they came for at the MN Fringe Festival's 'HafenGeist'. A first-class production, with hauntingly beautiful music beside stunning and original dance pieces. Costumes, make-up and lighting gave this production a "finished" and professional feel; it delivers a familiar story with several uncomfortable twists. What the Fringe is all about - fresh, courageous pieces with some life to them ... or un-life, as the case may be. It was interesting to note that the audience sat very still and clapped wildly at the end, observing strict ballet protocol! :-) A dark gem.

HafenGeist - Minnesota Fringe dates and times

We have some new information to share about our Fringe show - including the name!

HafenGeist is a gothic ballet based (loosely) on the story of Hansel and Gretel, with original music by Invocatio and choreography by Atomic Lotus.

We'll be performing at the Ritz Theater in NE Minneapolis. It's a great performance space (as a lot of you already know), and we're thrilled to be there. Show times are:

Thursday, July 31, 10:00 pm
Saturday, August 2, 5:30 pm
Sunday, August 3, 4:00 pm
Tuesday, August 5, 10:00 pm
Sunday, August 10, 7:00 pm

We have a lot of road to cover in the next few months - should be exciting! I'll post more bits and pieces as we progress.

Invocatio is performing tonight at O'Gara's Pub in St. Paul as part of a fundraiser for Calliope Women's Chorus, "a feminist chorus dedicated to promoting social change through song." Should be a very fun evening, there are a lot of entertaining things planned.

Doors open at 7:00 pm, tickets are $8.

Fringe? Probably...

The results are in and... we didn't get picked, we're not on the list of 150 shows. However, we're #8 on the waiting list, and they have cancellations every year. Everyone we've talked to seems pretty sure that we'll get the call sooner rather than later, so we're moving forward with show planning.

Show this weekend!

Invocatio will be opening the second act of Djinn Hardcore 2, "a variety show of experimental belly dance, burlesque, music, and mayhem." It's this Friday and Saturday night at the Bedlam Theatre. The show is scheduled to start around 10:00 pm (but we've been warned it might start a little late). Tickets are $12 and are available through the Bedlam site:

The last Djinn Hardcore was just a couple of seats short of selling out, and there are more well-known acts in this show, so I'd recommend getting tickets in advance.

I've very pleased to announce that an Invocatio song is being used in Stephanie E.'s ballet "No Name Woman," which is based on the story by Maxine Hong Kingston. Performances are at the Southwest Black Box on November 28th, 29th and 30th.

Stephanie's previous ballet was based on Luis Borges' "The Book of Sand" and gave a captivating and disturbing look at obsession, addiction, and choice. I have no doubt that her current work will offer yet more depth, passion, and excellent dance.

I should have more information on tickets in the near future.

We haven't given many signs of life since Djinn Hardcore. If you're wondering what's up with Invocatio, here's what we've been doing:

* Writing More Music

We've got another half-dozen songs in various stages of readiness, and a pile of songs-waiting-to-happen when we get through those. I ran into a few snags with scoring and recording, but those have been worked out and things should go a lot smoother now. I'm very pleased with the direction the music is going, and can't wait to share what we're coming up with.

* Recruiting

We've added a cellist and a dancer - more glorious details of which later - and we'll hopefully be adding another person or two before the end of the year.

* Looking for Performance Opportunities

We've got a couple of performances lined up so far in 2008, but it'd be great to make an appearance or two between Halloween and New Year's. If that gives you ideas, let me know.

That's the quick update! More news to come, and maybe even some MP3s...
