Spring Art Market this Sunday , 18th - 11 AM - 5PM - Art, Music, Childrens stuff, at Valley Junction

Moeberg Gallery has a new exhibit as well!

Two Rivers Arts Expo in Des Moines this weekend!

Looks like a good time!! I plan to head down Saturday and check out around 130 artists downtown. I love art festival, I always come away mind expanded and inspired. So many things I never even think of making to see there :D

Also, Gem Show next week for all you people that like using crystals and fossils. Going to be at the fairgrounds! New Picasso/Barque exhibit at the Art Center too! Des Moines has room for peeps in fall art class @ the center, take mosaics with me (or just watch me obsess on mosaics the next few months lol).

I am moving

to colorado soon ,which means leaving my office space, which puts my office partner in a bind for half the rent - which is quite low.

Anyone interested in studio space? The office is almost 600 square feet, access to water- (and toilet) is air conditioned and painted quite nicely, if I do say so myself.

Would anyone be interested in sharing the space part of the time - for working on your stuff or for teaching classes?

If even mildly interested, let me know - and I'll give you the address os you can come by and check it out.

Oh, and it is in Des Moines.

Des Moines Art Festival June 29 to July 1

Art store moving sale!!!

The Art Store is moving (which REALLY SUCKS) but they are having a giant moving sale tomorrow with tons of great deals on supplies. My plan tomorrow:

1) Check out Farmers Market for Morrells and fun
2) Check out art center for Iowa Artists exhibit
3) Goto Library for sculpting books
4) Goto Ritual for boost
5) Whatever cash is left buy art supplies :)

Demi Con 18

It's coming up! May 18,19,20 at Hotel Fort Des Moines, In Des moines, Iowa.

I'm going to be there as a vendor and a presentor - so if you're looking for a new hat, need some costuming help, or want to learn the basics of hatmaking, come along!

Weekend rate is $50, and that lets you have complete access to everything at the Con, including the hospitality suite - and that means lots of good food! FREE food!

Look for my hats, and if you come up to me and say "Got Farb?" I'll give you a 10% discount on anything premade or custom order you make during the event. This offer is only good during Demi Con weekend.

Hancock Fabrics

For the sewers in the crowd, Hancock Fabrics on Euclid at E. 25th in Des Moines in closing. Sure, they close the best one. But they still have some great fabric, a buttload of trim, and everything 60-70% off, 10% more per yard off if you buy the bolt full.

They are also selling their fixtures - see something you could use? Just ask them. I'm picking up the ribbon rack myself as soon as they have it empty.

Last day open is the last day of April.

Who we are, why we're here, all that jazz

Why the hell did I start this tribe? Cause sometimes Iowa makes it awfully hard to hook up with fellow artists and the like.

I'm a milliner, started my skills in hat making at Living History Farms and then got out on my own. Now I'm making historically accurate hats, fun hats, sick and wrong hats and getting in the costuming crowd on an international level. I just got back from Costume Con 25, in fact.

I lucked into an office space last July for cheapo rent here in Des Moines, and it's starting to pay off- at least now I have somewhere to store all my stuff, though looks like I'm gonna need another fabric dresser and soon!

In fact, I'm looking to start a crafting/art night around my office partner's art class nights. She teaches painting, drawing, etc - she's an art teacher, currently doing the Sub bit so she can have time for her own art as well. I'm just a former history teacher who should have become an art teacher.

So, enough about me for now - who are you, what's your story, interested in a weekly art night?

Spill anything you want - all will be accepted here.
