So the Des Moines Social Club is almost finalized on their space! I am in charge of tribal activities which includes circus stuff like hoops!
I thought it would be fun to have a weekly shake down of hooping, juggling, poi, whatever from 2-6 every Saturday. This would be free but donations appreciated to help the space cover heating costs. This sound like fun? I really want to get everyone together every Saturday and provide a center for circus arts. There will be classes and such there too, it really is going to be amazing. We are going to start working on the space in January for opening in February, so spread the word far and wide. We also have a blog at desmoinessocialclub.wordpress.com/ .
If there are any actors among you going to do casting calls in January for the 2009 season , the first show being R.U.R. where the term robots was created. Also, a great Vaudeville Event coming 1/15 info is on the website: www.desmoinessocialclub.org/

Sounds great - please count me on - I would love the chance to play/practice/share with others. Any chance you need a hoop instructor? I would love to help in this way. I will also pass the word onto my hooping friends - we are alwys looking for places to hoop in the winter months!!! Thanks for keeping us posted...

I know a few people have asked about hooping instruction and there will be availability to do so and space (still ironing out how instructing will work) maybe we can discuss this all in person. This center is really about what we want to create with it. We have an amazing opportunity to make something truly beautiful in Des Moines for artistic expression of all kinds so let's talk about how everyone can get a chance to teach , maybe a rotating schedule or even 2 classes a week with different teachers. We can discuss here or in person.
I really want this to be the center for the circus arts in Des Moines, I think it would be so amazing getting together every week to hoop together. Also spread to word to jugglers, poi people, staff, what-have-you. There is plenty of space for all! There will also be opportunities to spread from this to different performance gigs for DMSC and other opportunities that present themselves for other gigs. I am terribly excited about it all as you can tell :D
I will also post about when we will go in to get the space ready for public use in January, going to be lots of work to get done and will definitely need help volunteering! -

Tue, December 30, 2008 - 8:02 PMyeah spread! I will try and see if I can make a flyer. Not too graphic artist oriented but can maybe make something in Word. And I got the date wrong, was looking at 2008, the first weekend is actually February 7th. more focus after I get done partying for NYE :D -

There has been a change of plans we won't open totally to the public until March but can still have a few friends over to hoop there in Feb, especially if they don't mind painting a little bit afterwards.
Once it fully opens to the public in March then we will blast it everywhere! -

Thu, January 22, 2009 - 5:10 AMI have started to hoop with them and have told them about this tribe and what is going on in Feb - will share with them about Mar. I am sure they would be fine with hoopers dropping in as well. They get together every Sun 2-4? at the DSM YMCA. Lots of unicycling/juggling and poi. Hooping is new to them and they really seemed interested.
